Just put down what you find to be your best/favorite kind of tactic and or move to make in any fire emblem game, or multiple ones at that.
i myself am a strong believer in the fact that a strong defense is a strong offense. I love grouping all my units into some kinda shape and just plowing through enemy units like their nothing so meh...you could refer it to a sort of tank, since i do throw in some ranged units into the middle of the group x3.
so what about you?

It depends on the game, the victory, the characters...
In Shadow Dragon, I now have a specific team made up of characters I train specifically for certain things from as close to the beginning as possible: pretty much, Marth obviously, Cain with swords, Sheeda with lances, Gordin for bows, Lena for staves, Merric and Linde with magic, and Minerva with axes. Don't know why I chose Minerva, but I did. Usually I sit right on the edge of enemy attack ranges and lure them out. Take out guys behind things with archers and the like. Pay close attention to the Weapon Triangle and the Trinity of Magic. When I'm defending something, I position units in all the entrances around whatever I'm defending so nothing can get through. Like in Radiant Dawn Part 3, I think it's the chapter before the endgame. You're in a fort playing as the Daein army when the Greil Mercenaries attack. On the ledges I have anyone who can use a ranged weapon (sniping laguz this way and that with Leonardo =3). I also gave Sothe a beastkiller and Edward the skill Beastfoe. Combine that with the Tempest Blade and he's killing everything in sight before getting hurt once.
There's a sample of what I do. I have others that I might post up later.

It depends on the game, but I guess that my tactic would be the "wall" strategy.
Move all strong units into unit's movement range, placing wearker characters (healers, double range) behind them. Whatever hasn't died my next turn is usually down to a couple HP, so the weaker guys get the exp they need. Simple as that.
RD specifics... I love Haar, Nephenee, Gatrie, Shinon, and Tibarn. There has never been a playthrough where they haven't been top five (Haar has always been #1). From there I raise a good support team; my faves include Mia, Mist, Soren, Edward, Pelleas, Volke and (believe it or not) Oscar. Why Oscar? Because if you give him an "A" support with Ike nothing can hit either one of them. I have yet to find an excuse to get Zihark that close to Ike without killing him (Zihark) and I never liked warriors. Accuracy over attack? ... no.

I just basically blindly charge into battle most of the time. XD I make up my strategies as I go along and surprisingly more than half the time I don't lose anyone. But luck's part of skill right? I do divide my team into smaller groups of equal(ish) strength and kind of fan in on the enemy but that's only if they don't fan out on me. DX I might even send some of the stronger units on solo missions. ((Such as Ike, Marcus, Abel, Edward and such.)) But that's only if they really need to clear out a path for the others.

I usually have a wall of stronger characters at the front, then like 2 people on each side, then my long range units in the second line, then my weak characters behind them with one strong character at the back in case they pop up from behind. smile

lol, i remember when i used to do that x 3, but i always got to flustered when i lost even a non important unit, so i eventually just decided to make up some random tactic...And sentinels strategy reminded me of one i similarly use for more enclosed map,
its basically a giant wall/ arrow shape, all of my ''tanker units'' such as Brom, Gatrie, Tauroneo, at some point Meg, Followed by a spearhead of Jill, Haar, and Ike[ Ike is sometimes switched out for one of my Paladins] the rest of my unites behind this are pretty much just ranged, priests, or just units that need XP.idunno... it works well for smaller maps, but it tends to leave my rear WAY to open.
I also once copied Alexander The Greats mouse trap like troop charge, i forget the exact name but it had to do alot with a whole bunch of spears... its basically making a weird box with one opening, lure the enemy into this opening and just start pounding away at them with all the units, some ranged and whatnot from behind but it worked better with just alot of close ranged units put in small groups of roughly 3-5[ more if your trying to close in on a pack of units]. forgot where i did it though...
cant say they are my best, but they were favorites at the times i used em, especially the second one :3
