There's been quite a few more IRL things on Gaia lately. For me, it started with the "Gaia is...", then I happened to see a "Make me a Gaian supermodel" on the featured, and now there's this "meet-ups" thing. Of course, I don't think we should all be going around with paper bags saying "Anon" on our heads, but with anything on the 'net, bringing in IRL has its dangers (for all the ToS, there ARE some underaged - not to mention the legal age but totally immature - people out there). Even "established" sites like FB have privacy issues, and with the way Gaia's run right now, its not a good idea to try pushing out such events. Sure, the people here are generally "safer" than on FB et. al., but still, its like stretching your luck or something.

When I worked for AOL, various groups / departments had get-togethers at a central location. Not a horrible thing...everyone I ever saw show up at one was well beyond the age of 21. But I can not begin to imagine a parent chaperoning their 14 yr old child to one of these. Are they going to keep them handcuffed to their wrist the entire time?

Yeah, we've had family days at my old job before too (boss in Speedos... burning_eyes ) Thing is, with Gaia you're not really sure what's going to end up in the mosh pit.

ah I get what you're saying.
The meet up things worry me a bit to begin with.. even if it's in a public area I don't exactly think meeting different people for this is the greatest idea.
I mean there are kids on here pretending to be older than they are too. (I have a feeling my little sister is one of those people *sigh*)
And I doubt some parents would allow their 13 or 14 year olds to go to this anyways. You don't know what you'll find there. I'm not as worried as I'm 20 so it's... not so bad as I'm an adult but when I was 15 or 16 the last thing I thought about was meet ups with fellow gaians. gonk

To be fair, I'd imagine that it would be more difficult for a kid pretending to be older than he/she is to go to one, especially if it were several states over.

Even still. These meet ups and etc seem like not the best thing in this day and age considering everyone's opinion on things. I wouldn't go to one if there were "kiddies" around. mostly because too many people are ready to sue and press charges and adults mingling with kids online isn't approved. but it really seems that the kids are worse. I mean, if they are cybering in towns, nows their chance to do it irl.

Yeah, agree with Koichi. Can't (and don't want to) imagine those ****** on the forums doing it irl.
