I have heard there has been a few bits of hacking lately. I have gone through what I know and about the situation and here are some tips to keep safe.
1. Stay sharp. Thought you were paranoid before? Stay paranoid. As far as you know, the world of Gaia is not safe. Keep wary of Towns and Rally, nice places to get attacked. I suggested script-made rallies if you can find one. Keep clear of most forums, or atleast hesitate from posting in most forums. Watch out of marketplace, too. High pricey items attract people.
2. Keep your avi at low ground. If you have items people don't know about or it is cheap, you will be least likely to be jumped by a hacker.
3. Keep a CLOSE eye on your friends on Gaia. Make sure you know they are your friends and not some random hacker.
4. Privacy is diamonds. Keep the necessary private. Especially keeping people from looking at what items your wearing. This makes sure they can't check how much your avi costs.
5. Get protection. Scripts aren't just for stealing items. There ARE scripts acting like a firewall to keep people from hacking you. Just get a good, reliable one. The firewall attaches to the account, not the computer so it is always safe.
Post your own tips, get news on the situation, and add what you need to. Thanks for listening and stay safe.

If, you care deeply for you account a long, complicated password filled with caps, symbols, numbers and words, can do wonders to your account protection. I know a few vendors who use 30+ character passwords
I use anti-spyware, and a few other things.

An active-scan antivirus, a firewall, two anti-spyware programs and an anti-malware scanner. And I've still been attacked before.
For Firefox users: stay updated. There are several known holes in older versions, so even if you don't like the newer versions, use them anyway.

On your Preferences page, please make sure that both the Security and Redirect Warning boxes are checked. Gaia is under no obligation to assist you if you have unchecked these boxes.
Also, be watchful of the "Authentication Required" dialog box that will appear randomly, that asks for user name and password. It looks quite official...... IT IS NOT.

Well, you can either make the script, find an already made script, or have someone already support you with a script like me. Since you do not script, I would just find a trusted scriptor.

I see, still how do they work in terms of protecting the account? I'm good with comp hardware not software and scripting

Vox_Draconis I see, still how do they work in terms of protecting the account? I'm good with comp hardware not software and scripting It attaches to your account and, if you get what I have, blocks the IP of anyone who tries to find the password for the account. There are different ways of doing it. It's like a firewall for your account and the better the scriptor, the stronger the wall.

NoScript is a must-have for FireFox and Chrome users. It stops those password popup boxes, as well as cookie grabbers and other harmful scripts.
