Your thoughts? Beliefs? Do you have a plan? Or is there nothing afterward?
PostPosted: Sun Mar 28, 2010 1:22 pm

In the Christian aspect, after one accepts the Holy Spirit, there is only one place to go - eternal life in Heaven, in the Kingdom of God. No matter how bad a persons life can get, and even if they aren't the best at following a life of Christ, it's a one-way, guaranteed, pre-paid ticket. Though some Christians believe there's a few pit stops on the way (please feel free to clarify this. You know my memory isn't what it should be), it's still there.

I believe what you are getting to is "The Romans Road".
Romans 3:23-Man's need. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God".
Romans 6:23-Sin's Penalty. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 5:8-God's Provision. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 10:9-10-Man's Response. "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

I know that I will return to my service to Father without the fetters and chains of 'life'. I believe that I will take the accumulation of all I've learned and done, and be perfected as the Creation I was made to be.
I also believe that 'life' and 'death' are material concepts which will be cast off as both unnecessary and irrelevant as I join with my Creator.

(Thus, I try to live a life that will be worthy of that joining and will require the least amount of effort in burning off of that which is unworthy of being in that joining. )
(my sources for this believe are myriad and were learned over the course of my existence...)

Because of Jesus paying the price of our sins, I do believe we go to heaven to be with our Father. But He does say there are many mansions in His house. So I kinda think that those who accept Christ as there Savior will go to heaven, but if they do not turn away from there sin (which we are supposed to do) then I believe they will be without a jewel in there crown. Believe me, I'm not perfect, far from it...so I'm sure my crown will be missing some jewels also. But I do get up each morning and try hard (again) to do what is right each day. smile

Well, to be honest, I'm unclear on the matter. On the one hand, I'm sure that the consciousness or 'soul' exists beyond the point of physical death, because I have interacted with dead folks in the past. That assures me of at least that much. As for the specific nature of the post-mortem, I couldn't say. Having no memory of what it's like to die (not an implication of reincarnation; I suffocated twice when I was very small), and having never actually asked a dead person what's back there behind the curtains, I don't feel I have enough data to be entirely certain. If I had to guess, though, honestly, I'd say that one does not reach an afterlife until one comes to terms with and accepts one's death. Before that point, one stays right here on Earth. Thus, hauntings. After one becomes aware and acceptant of what has come to pass, each person probably gets their own little corner of some astral plane to mold into whatever they feel they deserve. For example, a suicide would most likely form a void, whereas a devout Christian would enter a Heaven. I suppose that's really a reconciliation of everything, isn't it. Perhaps that's really just an attempt by me to justify the fact that I don't know what happens, through creating a virtual all-inclusive afterlife. Either way, it's the best I've got for now. I'll probably never be entirely sure of what happens until I die.

For myself, I believe in reincarnation. The whole old soul in a young body thing wouldn't work if everyone stayed in heaven/purgatory/hell when they died. I'm not sure how reincarnation works specifically, if it's tied to the Buddhist idea of having lifetimes worth of time to achieve Boddhisatva status before being able to rest, or learning a specific thing each lifetime, or whatever, but I don't think we get just one crack at it. I do have some sort of idea of an afterlife, but whether it's a waiting room between lives or the ultimate goal or punishment I'm not sure. I also don't particularly believe that someone else's sacrifice will guarantee my salvation; I think it's my job to determine my own fate and the fate of my soul through my actions.

My old science teacher once gave me a very good analogy for reincarnation. He said that the body is sort of like a car. Eventually, the car will break down, get totalled, or somehow just stop working. After that happens, you'd eventually go out and get a new one, right? Same basic principle, with the carless periods being the afterlife.
I am also of the opinion that during the process of integrating the soul into the body, mistakes can be made.

On a side note, I liked that teacher. His name was Mr. Strange, and he once told me that he passed up the opportunity to get a doctorate's degree for the fact that it would've meant his title would be "Dr. Strange."

Well said! I know the "me" that is real is beyond the temporal mortal "coil".
(Does that mean it will un-coil? haha)

I don't believe there's any such thing as "life after death". When you die, it's over. Kind of sucks, but we can still enjoy life to the fullest, knowing it's our only one and it matters the most.

I would also like to add a wonderful quote from Mark Twain:
Quote:
"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."

I think there is life after death but I think my thoughts about it are different from many. I think that once we die we just go back to the dirt from which we can, but on that glorious day that the trumpets sound our spirits will be set free from being bound to this earth and our spirits will be joined with our Father up above to life forever. I base this idea from the descriptions of what happened when Jesus gave up the ghost, the promise of eternal life, and that God is everywhere.

for years, I was raised as a Baptist. For a little bit, I was Episcopalian. In both churches, it was the usual--if you live a righteous life, you go to heaven. You meet God, see old family members, etc. A big part of me still believes that even though I haven't been to church in a long, long time. I guess it's just very comforting.

So, that's what I believe in. 3nodding
