People just say boy in the fansubs and the dub because they need to pick one gender or the other. In Japanese they don't ever specifically say.

in jap cronas really a girl but in some eng dubs cronas a boy and in the mnaga crona was a boy but cronas a girl they refer to crona as she and her and even medusa called crona her daughter in the anime
