What's your thoughts on this item? It's causing a bit of controversy in SF.
Gaia claims they will donate 10% of the proceeds to the oil clean-up effort, but they are not saying whether that is NET or GROSS profit. A substantial difference!
They are also not naming the charity they will donate our money to. That seems odd to me, that they are clueless who shall receive our money.
Personally, I find this item to be in very poor taste. They could have just as easily created an item that doesn't appear to poke fun at a natural disaster. Well, actually they could have done a number of things differently.

I don't really know what to think about it. They donated a huge bunch of money to Haiti too, which came from the same 10% of another Cash Shop item.
Of course the donation is a fine thing, but how they made the item does not suit my taste, thus I didn't buy any, although I'd actually like to do my part. It's just... cute animals in a blob of oil? I can see that it's supposed to look like a rescue, but it's just another RIG to me...

I'll contribute to the cause, but it won't be involving Gaia.

One look at my signature will tell you what I think of the oil blob items. Gaia can do any damn thing it wants but what sickens me is that everyone is going on in the SF about how generous Gaia is.
Hello! Gaia is making a 90% profit on an item that wouldn't otherwise exist or sell if it weren't for the Gulf spill. Gaia stands to make a huge amount of money by profiting from the worst environmental disaster in US history.
This is not generous and it's not a cause for warm and fuzzy feeling towards Gaia. This is Gaia making a calculated move to rake in more cash.

Looking at Ga1a_Hypocritical_Whore's sig, every time I see Craig's photo, I get the urge to play Pin the Tail On the Donkey.
And, yes, like she said...if not for this RIG (?), Gaia wouldn't be making a 90% profit. I refuse to buy one, period.
As Kadina said, tasteless. Not to mention tacky and thoughtless. The 3 T's. blaugh

On one hand, 10% is better than nothing, on the other the way they did it was just so tasteless (as people have said before) that I'm starting to wish they hadn't made it.

When I first saw it, I was going "getting covered in oil tends to KILL wildlife". Besides, isn't it somewhat delayed?
And of course, the unnamed charity is ultra-shady. LOVE the sig.

I hate the idea, the charitu is unnamed, it's a crap item and in poor taste too, also its a little bit on the late side. All of this gripes have already been mentioned by others.
That's all I'm going to say on the matter because I don't want to get into debates concerning the incident itself.

Delayed because they are missing a few artists, and the ones that are left had to crank out this tasteless crap instead of working on the non-evolving EIs.

I thought it was rather late. It's been going on since April. Why jump in more than 2 months after the fact? Although I suppose maybe they were short on artists like Kadina says or perhaps there are other reasons why they delayed the launch of Toxic Drops.

This is Gaia making a calculated move to rake in more cash. i agree with Kadina, when i think Gulf Oil Spill i really don't think "OMG i can buy something from Gaia" i think, "well find a real charity that will actually do something and is fully named and clearly defined as to what my money does. I think the only 2 days that you will feel warm and fuzzy towards gaia is: The day you first joined gaia, and the day that you leave gaia for good. LOL Again, 90%, it kinda shows what's on Gaia's mind: Money. i get it, those poor starving artists can't get anyone to buy anything because they moved from a sweet innocent website to a money grubbing gotta meet the bottom line company. Well here's one thing i find wrong with this. I am a Gaian, Who the hell said I wanted another Cash Shop item over the Gulf Spill incident? Kadina Knightly Personally, I find this item to be in very poor taste. They could have just as easily created an item that doesn't appear to poke fun at a natural disaster. Well, actually they could have done a number of things differently But where's the fun in that? it only reminds me of 1 show, Futurama. In the episode of "The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz" in the episode there is a newscaster who reports on the crisis. they show penguins walking and slipping in the oil and a subtitle says "sound effects added to reduce sadness" as it plays little drum rolls and cartoon sound effects of people falling. even more so here's a clip from the episode too: Futurama Clipit wouldn't be gaia if the charity was unnamed. cause gaia just really is cheap, and dirty and ridiculous at how petty and thieving it can be.
