The Guild Rating Scheme

Guild rating is 100% FREE.

In finding your guild rating, the following factors are investigated, analyzed and evaluated:

  • Title
A title needs to be accurately descriptive of what the guild is about, or needs some special significance to the community. Also, to aid recruitment, it is a good idea to use key words in the title that will make your guild show up in a search of the GGN Registry for a topic.

  • Home page
The home page is the place where potential members get their most information about what they will get inside the guild, before they enter. It's important they get a positive first impression, as well as all the facts they expect to see, displayed in a clear, logical, concise way.

  • Effectiveness in targeting its audience
A guild should be targeted towards a specific audience. Your guild will be evaluated on how well it relates to its audience. For example, if a guild for budding authors or poets has threads dedicated to discussing a new video game, then that is ineffective. Also, if a guild for all newbies has an entire subforum dedicated to Harry Potter, then that is ineffective, too.

  • Organization of layout
A guild needs to be organized well so that its members can find what they want quickly. Layouts need to be logical and dead simple. Subforums need to be used effectively and as needed. A guild with ten subforums tends to be hard to navigate, and often many of those will never get visited, or the community will become divided and start posting only in some of them. "Crew Only" subforums are NOT usually a good idea, because they make the normal members feel isolated and that they are perceived as "second class."

  • Organization of information
Announcements need to be made clearly, information and resources need to be in clearly-labeled stickies for easy reference, and threads need to be organized into their appropriate subforums, all the time.

  • Relationships
How well do your members relate to one another? Are there frequent discussions that involve different people, or are there only a handful of regulars who appear at all and tend to make others feel they can't post? Is there a problem with flaming, rudeness, cheating or other unfriendly behavior? The people of the guild reflect on the kind of community it really is, and it only takes some bad grapes to spoil the whole bunch.

  • Crew
How well do the Crew relate to the rest of the guild? In this category again, a "Crew Only" subforum generally reflects badly. Also, if some Crew members only ever appear to make announcements, post rules and ban people, then that reflects badly on the relationship between the Crew and the member. The Crew needs to be seen as a body of ordinary members that happen to have additional controls to help maintain the guild - they are not in a class of their own and they need to be as much a part of the community as any other. ("Crew" refers to Captains and Vice Captains, too.)

  • Identity
A guild identity helps to create a sense of togetherness, while also helping others outside the community to remember you. Similar to the way corporations use a logo or a slogan, and the way football teams use "team colors," any design that is typically associated with your guild can go a long way to raising outside awareness of it, and raising a sense of community on the inside.

  • Initiatives
Guilds that can organize events, contests, money games, words games and other original ideas, and make them successful by achieving high levels of community involvement, are always successful and achieve higher guild ratings.

  • Activity
This service calculates your guild's [ post count : member count ] ratio to find the average number of posts made by each member. A higher average indicates higher activity levels. This is more important than simply having lots of members and/or lots of posts. (Since the guild's record of the number of members and posts at the bottom of the home page is often inaccurate, member lists are counted manually. However, posts can't be calculated manually, so the ratio may be slightly inaccurate.)

  • Originality
Guilds built around original and creative ideas attract more people and are more fun - as long as the guild relates well with theme, relates well with the members and the theme is actually one that interests people.

  • Existing improvement efforts
How is your guild already trying to improve? Threads for suggestions from members are great as they offer a constant source of advice on where the community wants to go. The leader's job is to take that community from one place to another, and it's a far easier and more fun experience to lead the group where they want to go.

That all depends on what you're willing to pay in order for me to rate your guild. ^^

Note: It's 100% FREE.

You know if you place this in the original context, it was for free and people would post their links so others can rate the guild based on either some of that criteria, all, or even more criteria.

Yes, I know. I, honestly, wasn't paying attention when I posted my last comment. I just realized what I replied and was about to edit it, and then I saw your comment.

Daffodil_Dreams

I'd love to receive a rating for my guild =)

I've reviewed your guild, just like you requested, and I had the following ratings:

  1. Title: Very good. It describes the guild very well, and it's very accurate as to what the guild is about. Job well done! 10/10

  2. Homepage: It was fairly good. But it didn't exactly give all the information I wanted. I wanna know about different happenings in the guild. What exactly will be in the guild? Why should I join other than for the mere fact that it's about music and, well, I love music? 6/10
    • Explain more of what's going to be encountered in the guild.
    • Will there be contests?
    • What the good points of the guild are.
    • Etc.

  3. Effectiveness: It was very good. There were no Forums/threads that were not on topic with the guild's purpose. 10/10.

  4. Organization: It seems very well organized. Sub-Forums are pretty accurate to what that section is about. Stickies/Announcements are fairly well used. 8/10
    • Try getting more stuff to interest the users of the guild.

  5. Relationships: Your Members seems to relate to one another very well. They have often conversations. They're all friendly. Very well done! 10/10

  6. Crew: Your Crew should really get in and post more. The guild has been around since July 31st, 2010, and the Crew have hardly posted. They shouldn't even be at Crew level right now. They should have enough posts to show that they're dedicated to the guild. At the time I reviewed your guild, the Crew didn't have very many posts. One of them had 8 posts, and the other had 12. That doesn't show very much dedication right now. 3/10
    • Wait to promote users until they've shown a great amount of dedication. 30 posts usually shows dedication.
    • Maybe you should demote your Crew until they've achieved 30 posts.

  7. Identity: You need to have something original in your guild. Make sure there is something that will make users remember you. A "sense of style." 5/10

  8. Initiatives: This particular section is very low. Your guild has absolutely nothing to show any kind of initiative whatsoever. I wanna see users getting involved in contests of all kinds. 0/10
    • Organize contests for the guild.
    • Find ways to make original contests.
    • Try and get high community involvement in your events.

  9. Activity: Good in some areas, not so good in others. Your guild has been around since late July. But it only has 22 users. You should try advertising a lot more. It will help bring more users into the guild. But on another not; your guild has been around since late July, only has 22 users, but has 132 posts. That's pretty good. It shows some possible potential for your guild's activity level. 5/10

  10. Originality: Your guild seems pretty original to me. It doesn't look like you've taken any content from other places around Gaia. But, to be honest, I don't spend much time in music sections. 10/10

  11. Existing Improvements: I'm afraid you have a very low rating here. Your guild doesn't have anything for users to make suggestions. It doesn't even seem like you're trying to improve it.
    • I recommend creating a thread, or maybe even a sub-forum [but most likely a thread] for user suggestions. Show them that you care about their opinion.

    -----EXTRA-----

  12. Banner: Amazing! This banner is attractive. It includes the guild name. And the colors blend perfectly! Great job! 10/10

Thanks, I'll work on this stuff =)

To be honest, I don't really have problems getting people to join, more with getting people to post.
I even took the effort a couple of days ago to individually pm each member with a really low post count and ask them if they were still interested/what was stopping them from posting etc. This got 3 people to post in my introductions thread and 1 of those posted in some conversation threads also.
Any ideas on how to encourage people to post?

P.S. I'm glad you like the banner, I was really happy with it whee Check The Rhyme made it for me for only 6k!

I've reviewed your guild, just like you requested, and I had the following ratings:

  1. Title: Very attractive. Users see a title like this and it really gets their attention. 10/10

  2. Homepage: Absolutely LOVE the homepage! It's very amazing. It suits the guild perfectly. It's very detailed as to what the guild is about, how to apply for joining, and more along those lines. It's absolutely wonderful! Great job! 10/10

  3. Effectiveness: Pretty good. But I'd suggest not having The Library subforum. That is not dedicated to millionaires in any way, shape, or form. That is basically an entire subforum based on something that doesn't even pertain to the guild's purpose. But other than that I love its effectiveness. 8/10

  4. Organization: It's definitely very well organized. Everything seems easy to find. I don't have a single problem going through to Forums and getting where I want. Nice work. 10/10

  5. Relationships: Your guild definitely relates well with its users. Users and Mods seem to all join in conversation(s). They chat together. They bond. It's wonderful. 10/10

  6. Crew: Your Crew is freaking awesome! They all have 400+ posts. You also only have 6 Crew Members [Moderators]. That's great! A guild with 600+ users, and only having 6 Mods. That's around 100 users per Mod. That's wonderful! 10/10

  7. Identity: The identity is great. Your banner(s) are nice. Your homepage is nice. Your title is nice. Your summary is nice, etc. It all leaves users wanting a little bit more. 10/10

  8. Initiatives: Nice. However, I did only see one contest going on. I'm not sure if I missed some or what. But users love contests. Even millionaires do. I would suggest having a few more contests. 7/10

  9. Activity: Your guild is definitely active. Users seem to post quite a lot. I see a different topic in the recent posts section of the homepage all the time. 10/10

  10. Originality: It's very original. Great job! 10/10

  11. Existing Improvements: Honestly, I didn't see any improvements being suggested/made. I'm afraid it doesn't seem very well at all. 1/10
