So I log in as usual, and get this HUGE, slow-to-load notification on...achievements! Great, another stupid idea gone live. So I look at the main forums, and besides getting reminded why I don't do THAT more often, I think this:
1) Great, another pointless number that noobs (compare vs. newbs) are going to beg for
2) Why the #^%% wasn't it retroactive? (this seems to be a top complaint, though it didn't actually occur to me till I went to read some of the descriptions)
3) Again, what is it for and what hole is it supposed to fill? It feels a whole lot like another "hey, every other big site/community has it so we should" thing (e.g. xbox/ps trophies - chased those before ><)
Other than the blatant inanity of it all, it feels like another unfinished feature rushed out the door (think the retroactive argument - thanks for giving me "citizen" after like 3 years?) and to me (legal and not shy to say it) its kinda insulting since it seriously feels aimed at Gaia's bottom line i.e. 10 year-olds.
Its been a while since I said this, but - if I was 10, I'll go to Neopets, dammit.
NOTE: if anyone feels this is better in the "recent changes" section, voice up and we'll see who can move it - didn't put it there since I'm not 100% sure its "new", considering achievements HAVE been on Labs for a while now.

It's not new, only the bug that let's it pop up at random logins is xp
I turned the pop-up off a while ago, when it started happening to me, but I don't remember how, and still got the issue on a mule... It's really annoying...
When it first came out, I thought of WoW, although the Gaia achievements are useless and no fun to go for. You don't even get a title, tse, Ranchi the Kingslayer, now that would be nice...

Ok, at least its not wholly my FF breaking stuff. Got hit on my mule too stare
The whole thing would really annoy me less if not for the *sigh* brainless descriptions and really bad page layout.

I'm still trying to figure out why spamming profiles with 'cool avi' is an achievement. Like Hanaze said......10 yr olds.
But, mine are completed up to a point. (I've not attempted Invisibility yet.) I'm hoping we get something really awesome for these damn things. Am I an optimist, or what?
If anyone needs help with them, feel free to befriend, spam, and abuse me to achieve your goal. biggrin Also, if you PM the link to the thread, I'll help you bump.

Anyone who creates a "New Account" with gaia, Must now complete X amount of achievements in order to fully experience the full features of Gaia. I.E., Guilds, Cars, Rally, Houses, Towns, Etc. It no longer is just the simple: Make new account, Wait 24 hours, Buy a Trading pass, you're good to go. It is now, Make New Account, Spend a couple hours/days accomplishing all these stupid achievements till you get citizen or whatever it is now. After that you still have to wait the 24 hours to buy a trading pass too. sooooo it's really not meant for the old users but it is an option for them.

I think its suppose to deter people making mules. and to try to keep people active, almost every outer sight of the gaia nature is doing something like this.

I found a way to block it! There's a userstyle that you can use to block it if you have the Firefox plugin Greasemonkey or Stylish. It works so well!

You wake up as Ash or "Mother Fawker" and then you go explore around the city and as you go to leave the city Prof Oak stops you and says, you must has a pokemon first. and then he's like wait!!! you gotta have a pokedex! and you're like, stfu old man!! then "AssFace" decides that he has to battle with you. and and and. yeah xD That's kinda the point of the achievements, to power up and level up your gaia, which is really really dumb, but the new people don't know any better so they sit there and take it in the a**...us old users making mules sit here and go well ******** the achievements and call em pains in da arse. biggrin

And it begins...for those who didn't know about the achievements update, don't bother finding out. Its either a) stupid, b) offensive, c) buy stuff!!! or d) all the above.
And still, no indication what the points are good for, especially considering they're earn-once only.

But at least they tried to re-innovate the site? failed miserably but tried. xD hopefully this orgy drug induced hallucinations created from the second story women's bathroom grope fests razz
