HISTORY Often misunderstood, or dismissed as the dark one, Raphael is known to go to the extremes with his emotions. He has a hard time handling his temper, pressured from the unfair facts of life. Like his brothers, Raphael was a simple pet shop turtle until exposure to toxic “ooze” mutated him. He was raised by Splinter along with his brothers, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Donatello.
The most independent of the turtles, Raphael is the loner of the group and is the most violent and brutal of the brothers, often killing his enemies. Raphael has had a complicated life so far. He has left the turtles and returned several times, constantly confronts his brother and leader Leonardo often to violent ends, moonlighted as the vigilante Nightwatcher. Raphael even briefly took up firearms instead of his traditional sai weapons. He was even the He even replace the Shredder and led the Foot clan for a short time as a means to combat New Yorks growing hive of mobsters. He has once again returned as a ninja turtle.
