if any of you decide to get a llama to protect sheep/goats or anything small like that, get a female,or at least a neutered male,I dont know if its because he isnt neutered, but my neighbors llama always tries to mate with their sheep, that wouldnt be so bad if he just jumped on them and then left them alone, but unfortunaly for the sheep, llamas mate laying down,so he ends up pinning the sheep down (after chasing them for a while) and setting on them for like 30 mins,I chase him off whenever I see it,or if I know someone is home,I will call and tell them, but my dad used to know someone who had them to protect his sheep and they killed a few that way. (on a side note,I cant get over how llamas have weird testicles, cause you would expect them to hang down like a ram/buck/bull but they stick out by their rear like a cat 0.o)

neutral Somehow that last bit makes this a bit of an akward topic rofl but thats ok! mrgreen

That makes sense. I like llamas, so this is a good bit of information to have. I'm contemplating eventually getting a herd guarder, and llamas are definately a possibility. Donkeys were also another one of my choices. biggrin

Sunshine Peach-Heart
Saying you choose not to be gay is like me saying I chose to like mayonaise. JFTR, I hate mayonaise. A part of who I am is that I hate mayonaise. However, if I forced myself to like mayonaise, then I wouldn't be the chick I am. I'd be lying to myself and others around me. You can't make yourself like mayonaise, you just hate it, love it, or could go with or without it. Just like how you can't make yourself be straight, you're just either straight, gay, or, like myself, somewhere in between. There is no forcing yourself. Lots of people in this world are going to force you to do things, so why let yourself be one of them? Honestly, I think your roommate is such a homophobe because he is a closeted homosexual/bisexual/pansexual. It's a common case among closet-dwellers to pretend to be homophobic. They think "Hey, if I pretend to hate gays, no one will suspect a thing, right?" Just let him know stuff like that hurts you and I think you should be fine. If this bullcrap continues, I suggest you move out.

By the way, I apoligize if my mayonaise analogy seemed rather dumb. sweatdrop

Lol, there was nothing wrong with that analogy. biggrin

Now, if you had said that being blind is who a person is, and if they feel like they should gouge their eyes out so they can enjoy the world of no ocular vision, then I might have to disagree that you provided a decent analogy xD

I'mnotcreepy

Ehh, I've always preferred dogs to llamas or donkeys. They take a bit of training, but when you raise them with the herd they're great.

I had a Boxer/Lab cross, not your typical herd guard breeds, who was excellent. I didn't loose a single kid while I had him with the herd. He died and coyotes got into my pens and killed most of the herd. Admittedly at that point I only had 6 does left, but really they killed 4 out of 6, in one night.

If I ever get goats again I'm looking into getting a Pyrenees or 2 to keep with them.

Dogs are ok. I've never had the patience to train them, and my goats would beat up a little puppy, so its not the best option for me. Then thiers the ferrier problem if i get a donkey. Mabey If I get a horse like mom wants a donkey would be best, since i will have a ferrier coming up regularly. Hmmm so much to consider. neutral

llamas may need foot trimming as well,Im not sure, our neighbors have never had their llamas done, but our ground breaks off feet really well most of the time....actually,I think my old sheep may have had his feet trimmed only 2-3 times in his life....and he was like 8 when he died....

❝ I think guard ducks are a superb idea. Mine like dogs and try to wrestle with them for fun, scaring them away. They have also chased away like 100 Canadian geese in a few days. (only because they try to follow them everywhere and it freaked the geese out. they love people.)❞
