well i said i would make a forum about it,and i did. all i really want to know is what mods really have a highlight for you.
the main games im worried about mods for are:

1. Stalker (or more appropialtey S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)
2.SoF
3.Serious Sam 2(the acctual 2 not second encounter(
4. and games that have some fun or cool mods that you guys like!

to start off, there is only one mod that i have acctualy done and played a game with and that is the cheat mod for deus ex 2 invisible war, although it gets anoying and in the way sometimes, it made the game alot easier! eek

I'm not a big fan of mods.
Generally I want to play the game as originally made and then move on... I rarely linger on the same game for long.
The exception is total conversions like Team Fortress Classic but even then I only played the various Half-Life mods.

I generally rather mod my games rather than play them vanilla style because developers tend to leave out certain things that may be beneficial to gameplay and performance. Though, we all know that mods are made by amateurs and they usually don't put in even half the effort of making them. But still, who knows if there could be something really worthwhile? I don't follow the mantra of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" that so many others like to go on with; I'm almost always willing to download a mod that can really up the ante for my game. That's one reason why I usually don't like to play games vanilla style (i.e. in their final, unmodded state). Unless it's a console game.

And then, there's the false analogy of people quitting on a game they think is horrible to play even though the game itself actually is a refreshing experience and can be redeemed with fixable mods (though mods, for the most part, tend to enhance the gameplay experience, rather than fixing them). Shadow of Chernobyl is one example of a game that has near-broken gameplay but itself can be modded to alleviate those "problems."

However, there are games that remain bad enough to keep players from progressing due to inexplicable bugs and poorly scripted scenes, even if the mods that are there to save them still couldn't make the games any better. Clear Sky and the PC versions of Halo/2 are fine examples.

i think the only mods ive ever used other than the cheat mod that is acctually more of an easter egg on DE:IW (mentioned in my 1st post), is Counter Strike(orriginal) TF classic and if you count it.....some mods that tweaked the game play for MW2 PS3 version. Is there any mods that you recomend for:
1. stalker(as always)
or
2. rainbow six 3:athena sword and and raven shield

Well, for Shadow of Chernobyl, the Oblivion Lost total conversion mod really makes things in the game far better than the original version. New weapons, random blowouts, and AI that can throw grenades (though in CS and CoP, that problem is fixed); there are a lot more I could list in that awesome mod, but so many things abound I can't describe them all.

I don't play Raven Shield/Athena Sword as often as I did before. The gameplay in those games was less than stellar, and some of the missions were so poorly scripted that I didn't care for their mods, unless I cheat.

same, thanks for at least putting thought into it, lol i wouldnt care either way though!

i just noticed a mod that i played, it was a total stand alone mod for HL2, it set up random scenarios (35 or 25 in all) that you had to complete, it was poorly done. It randomly gave you an objective that the creator made up and they were normally variations of the same objective (save the hostages, break your friends out of jail, save the scientist etc..). also levels only had a few jems out of them all, the generic levels included your average 15 grid bassed cities. i think the name of this free diversion worthy mod was call CSS sci fi here is the link for those looking for a someething new
As i was typing this post i decided to look for it, turns out there is a story!

[edit] i guess what i played was an early beta for the mod, because they added alot

When it comes to mods, Doom 2 is where it is.

Here is a few WADs made for Doom 2, all are quite impressive. smile

Zen Dynamics Level 3
Legacy of Suffering (Skip to 1:25 for actual gameplay)
Urban Brawl: action Doom 2

I actually take time to try tinkering with the mods made specifically for the certain games to test how they would work. Trying to get an in-depth of what these mods are capable of, I always feel intrigued to see the effects they could cause in-game. Even though it can be a risky endeavour to do so (the CTD effect is the most commonly encountered problem with improperly modded games), I think of the precautions of these mods, since making even one mistake on a mod can effectively ruin the balance of the game. Most PC gamers tend to go head-on with these mods without regards to the consequences and fail miserably; cursing either themselves for not knowing any better or the mods/mod creators for poor planning. I myself am patient with the mods I download and I don't want to go ballistic over one badly made mod since that would make me an impatient idiot.
