I recently had to write a "Letter of Gratidtude" for my Psychology class, adn I wanted to hear some opinions about what I wrote. Here's the 'letter':

Chance, simple, plain, unedited, chance; that is what I’m thankful for. Chance is just so damn simple that a lot of time we take it for granted. Just think about it, that I-pod you accidentally left at home, but because you weren’t listening to that I-pod, you learned something new? Chance. Taking the bus instead of your car and meeting that beautiful girl who lives a half block from you? Also chance. See? Chance is what makes life LIFE. Without it, everything would go as planned and we’d never do anything extraordinary.

I went hung out with a few of my friends recently, and one of them, Bryan, asked me if I wanted to chill out and have dinner. It seemed to be a pretty cool idea to me, so I texted my mom and asked her if I could. By some miracle of chance, she said yes. By the end of the night, we were sitting in front of a computer playing Minecraft and eating pizza. It was great, I’d heard a lot about Minecraft and I’d always wanted to try it out, so a simple dinner request turned into a sort of learning opportunity. Add to that the fact that I was hanging out with some great friends and having some pretty good pizza, and I’d say that chance worked in my favor that night. Sadly, chance is a double edged sword, sometimes I take a chance and I don’t do a certain assignment, or I turn it in late, and you know what happens? My grades suffer for it. So not everything works out the way we want, but that’s just what makes taking chances and gambles so exciting.

I’m thankful for chance, nothing more, and nothing less. Chance gives us things, and takes other things away. It’s what makes things happen in life, from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Because just think, if we didn’t have chance, then the only extraordinary things to happen would be planned out to a T, and that’s not very extraordinary at all.
