Day 2: And then there was...
-
“I can’t do this,” said Namuie as she threw down her mask.
“What?!” Equinoxious gasped, pressing her own mask closer to her face as if afraid hers would fall away too. “But why not? We’ve almost tracked the Reaper down…”
“I’m sorry. I’m involved in a big project right now, and I can’t risk my life.” She shook her head. “I have to leave the Vigilantes. I have to leave town. I’ll give my support from afar.”
“The mission is tonight!” Equinoxious squeaked frantically. “I can’t do this alone. I can’t contact our third! I could kill the Reaper tonight! I need you!”
“From afar, Equi.” Namuie grabbed Equinoxious’s hand and pushed a few bullets into it. “From afar.” And with that, Namuie had left the Vigilantes and the town. Equinoxious picked up her suitcase and pocketed the bullets.
“Then I’ll do it myself,” she murmured, and set out across the town for her destination.
--------------------------
At midnight, at the top of the water tower, Equinoxious assembled her rifle. She could see the entire town from there, and had been guarding it silently from there since the first murder two days before. From the peach farm to the library, she could see every person, every inch of it, and though she’d never had a chance to meet any of them or move to protect anyone, she knew their movements. There was one person, however, who’d failed to move at all, and that was her aim tonight.
Carefully, she pointed the scope at a city hall office. She could see within, the figure sitting at the desk, hunched over a book, staring blankly. Something seemed wrong, and she knew it. She focused the scope, squinting at the face, until she saw something moving behind her. What was happening at the door?
But that was when she heard a whistling noise. She turned around, and saw that someone had planted a walkie-talkie in her briefcase. She picked it up and held the receiver to her ear, trying to make out what the whistling noise was. She pressed the button and spoke into it:
“Who is this? What do you want?”
There was radio silence as she released the button, and she waited. She gripped the walkie-talkie tight, until she felt something out-of-place on the bottom of the casing. She turned it over, and saw a tracking chip roughly soldered onto it. She flipped the walkie-talkie over again and hit the button again. “Who is this?!”
Finally, came the reply: “BOOM! HEADSHOT!”
Before Equinoxious could snap back with a reply, she got exactly what the voice had sent her- a blow through the head. Howls of laughter echoed through the walkie-talkie in her lifeless hand. With a single shot, the second of the three Vigilantes had been stopped.
-------------------------------------
But even without the watchful eyes of the Vigilante, the scene unfolded in the city office. The two priests burst through the door and seized Bellecat’s arms. Bellecat didn’t even move, drooling over her archives with a blank stare on her face.
“This must be the one,” the young priest said. He shook her around, and she slowly turned to look at him.
“You,” she growled, “annoy me.”
“No wonder nobody’s noticed you,” muttered the young priest. “Holed up here in your office, buried in books, not acting, not moving… what were you waiting for?”
“Waiting,” she mumbled. “What’s to wait for? You’re all going to die either way.”
“Wrap her arms up!” The young priest called to the old priest, and he nodded and wrapped her in ropes.
“Just wait… I’ll kill you all… you won’t get rid of me this easily!” The Reaper tossed her head back and screamed.
“Haul her off!” The young priest ordered the old priest, and the two of them dragged the Reaper away.
Before she’d even had a chance to act, the Reaper had been eliminated.

Saboteur, you’ve got some work to do!
Remaining Vigilante, the time to act is now!
Gossip and Harlot, what are you looking for?
Everyone else, time to vote!
All roles must send their actions and requests by 10pm tomorrow night!
All votes must be in by 11pm EST!
And all’s well!
(And a side note: Dude, you guys voted out Belle in what I think was her first killer role ever before she even read her role placement PM. Seriously.
In addition, I'm working a late shift tomorrow night doing inventory. I feel rotten doing this, but tomorrow's update may be even later than this one, unless my roles can send me their PMs super-extra early...)
