I have some updates on the pond as well as new ideas for it.
Despite the fact that this is something like a 100g pond, the sponge filter I have on it (rated for something like 5-10g) is doing an excellent job with debris and keeping it aerated. There are tons of baby gambusia, and most of the adults seem to be gravid females. I'm very happy with it.
Originally I wanted to convert it into an axolotl pond, but we won't be living here forever and I don't want to put too much expense into the pond. Plus at least with fish, I can put them all in one tank whereas I'd need separate tanks for my fish and axies when we move. So I think I'll keep the gambusia and when I can get a new filter for it, I'll get some hillstream loaches as well. I loooove hillstream loaches, so it's a good idea. there will be a nice waterfall when I get the new filter, so it'll be perfect for them. Also thinking about other fish that would fit into this set up.

How about Fancy Goldfish? You could easily put 3 or 4 in there. But if you have to move and transfer then to an aquarium, they need 30 gallons for the 1st fish and 15 for each after that (being genrous, as Fantails and other small Fancies dont need quite as much room)

Given the size that I've seen even fancies reach, the pond is too small. They wouldn't have much swimming room. Plus when I move I could get something like a 55 and everyone would be happy there. But again with goldfish I'd need separate tanks.
There's always so many fish I want, and now that I can have most of them, I can't think of what they are, lol. Except hillstream loaches.

You could easily keep two in a 40 gallon breeder (which you can get for $40 at PetCo durring their $1 per gallon sale). Just an idea lol Killies are neat too. Some get to be a good sized, but can still be placed in a normal sized tank. Google Killifish and see what you come up with. There are some red lyretails ones that are gorgeous!

My grandfather's fantails are the size of my fist, and they're in an overcrowded tank. Lol, pass on that. Killies might be cool, they're the ones you were telling me about before that are kinda similar in appearance to bettas right? Do they require a heated tank? So far my plans are to make it as natural as possible. Hot as it is here, the pond is still cool to the touch. The mosquito fish are cool water fish and I'm pretty sure the loaches are too. So we need to think cold water, but not gigantic. Someone on another website suggested a Florida Gar. I was like um...my pond is a puddle compared to what a florida gar should be in.

Haha! I was just throwing out some ideas XD
Killies are closely related to Bettas, yes. I think they would be fine without a heater. Just be sure to get ones that arent sensative to things like that.

Yeah, I'll check those out. Once I get a better siphon (need one of those pump action ones because the pond is below the ground level) I'll actually be able to see my fish, lol. As it is, I do water changes with the shop vac we have but it's not very powerful so it doesn't do a whole lot of good.
Oh yeah, big news, I GOT A JOB. I started today and I'm so excited that I'll be able to finally buy all of the equipment and such I need for my fishies.

Oh sweet, my future sister in law works at publix. I got a job at a B&B here in town. It's a pretty sweet gig, only like 5 hours a day but it's every day so that's kinda sucky but hey at least it's a paycheck.

Oh, pretty nice deal. I heard Publix treats their employees very well.
Also, I thought of another fish I really want for the pond. Marbled hatchets! xD

There haven't been any animals really bothering with the pond. Most of the mosquito fish are babies (since they've been having babies like crazy and I only got about 24 adults to start with) and the population seems to be steady. BUT I did decide against the hatchets because I remembered that this is a cold water pond and hatchets are tropical fish. Momentary brain lapse. Well, I decided against hatchets for the pond anyway. I'm getting a bigger tank this weekend if all goes well, so a small school might be nice.
I found a fish store in my town, all they sell are natives for obscene prices. Some of them were pretty cool though, it might be nice to have dwarf sunfish, but maybe I'll work on catching my own.
