I was laying in bed last night and this thought came to me.
This contest had a sign-up sheet, remember?
So, what in the world possessed Stein to sign up to participate?
My idea is Sasha found out about the contest and was super excited. She kept telling Meredith to sign up too, because she feels Meredith needs to get out more. Meredith then somehow convinced Ivan to sign up (how she did this, I have no idea. Maybe she used the cousin card?) and then Ivan told Stein that the only way he would participate was if Stein would. Now, Stein probably refused until Sasha and Meredith wore him down. OR, his fans figured out where he lived and wouldn't stop badgering him until he participated.
Your thoughts?

Louie: "Sweet, pie eating contest. I can finally show everyone that I'm a lot more than just some frilly vampire king."
Natasha: "Riiight. You know what would be really funny? If we signed up someone else as part of the competition."
Devin: "That's kind of cruel--"
Natasha: "What the ******** are you talking about? It's GENIUS. Let's see, who else hasn't participated for the masses, could use some fresh air, and probably could enjoy the taste of free pie?"
Devin: "You mean 'free' pie--"
Louie: "The only person that comes to mind is--"
Natasha: "STEIN. Yeah, that guy could use a little bolstering, eh? Louie, sign him up."
Louie: "WHY ME?"
Natasha: "I'll pierce your balls together if you--"
Louie: "Okay, okay. Yeesh."
To get him to the competition...they probably sent out a letter.
Stein: *Gets his morning mail, finds a flyer in there, addressed specifically for him to join for the pie-eating contest* "Oh how wonderful." [/sarcasm]
*After some thought*
"Guess I don't really have much of a choice. It is free pie...hmm..sure, why not?"
After making it into the final round
Stein: "I really should have ignored that flyer."

Oh, or maybe he just wanted some free pie and signed up himself. He never thought he'd be forced to eat all that nasty pie plus have to go the finals. Sorry Stein.
