My english teacher is getting a 10 gallon tank to put int he classroom, and since I'm a marine biology nut, I get to help her. Anyone have any ideas for what flora/fauna to put in the tank?

I would do a low light tank with lots of (low light) plants, a Honey Gourami, and 8-ish Neon Tetras. I'm currently working my 10 gallon up to that (have the plants and Honey, but am waiting till I get the money for the Tetras).
Neon Tetras look amazing under low light against live plants, driftwood and black gravel.
Other options are -dividing the tank and having up to 3 bettas -Endlers -Guppies -Shrimp -snails -glowlight tetras -celestial pearl danios -crawfish -pygmy corries -ember tetras
pretty much, for schooling fish, 1 inch and under, and for a centerpiece fish, 2 inches and under (unless its rather inactive, then you could go for 3 inches.). Go to the stores around you and see what they have that catches your eye, and make a list. We can help you narrow that list down to fish and numbers that are appropriate for a 10 gallon.
For plants: -Wisteria -Java fern (tied to driftwood) -Java moss -Anacharis -most Crypts -most Anubias (tied to driftwood) -Aponogenton -Moneywort -marimo moss balls
If you are wanting to do Saltwater, no one on here, except maybe Ammonia Spike, could help you. It seems Saltwater lovers are hard to find on Gaia, but I could send you to a forum (that I also use) that could help, if you are interested =)
ninja Also, I moved this thread to the Tank Stocking Sub Forum 3nodding

As far as options for saltwater, there are a few possiblities. A ten gallon saltwater tank of course will be much harder to maintain than a larger tank, so you might want to reconsider if you haven't done saltwater before. If you want to go with a fish-only tank (no live rock and no invertibrates), your options are pretty much limited to very small fish like some of the shrimp gobies. If you decided to do a reef tank, I suggest keeping fish out of the tank. A tank filled entirely with corals and shrimp, crabs, or brittle stars is really a nice setup.
