If we look at the world around us....
We don't see a lot of people with a sense of commitment.
Families are far too often divided by partners who are unable to commit to the promise of a lifetime of commitment to each other.
In some cases, such a breaking of the wedding vow can be understood and also justified.
Abusive relationships are never conducive to pledges of lifelong trust.
Certainly, abuse can take on many forms.
God alone is able to judge each person's heart in such a matter.
In the business world there are workers who bounce around from job to job, simply because they find it difficult to "get along" with the boss, or other employees. Some workers get bored with their jobs and just decide to move on.
In the fellowship of Christians, there are "church hoppers", who go from one church to another simply because they can't find the perfect church or because something inside the body of believers has changed. A person may experience a real or perceived slight. The music may not always be to their liking, the preacher may be too long winded, the Bible studies are not to their liking; or perhaps the idea of being fed has taken the focus off of helping feed others the "good news" about Jesus.
The psalmist, David, tells us in Psalm 37, verse 5: Commit thy way unto the Lord: trust also in Him: and He shall bring it to pass.
Bring what to pass?
Look in verse 4 in Psalm 37.
This is something we all need to remember. Delight thyself also in the Lord: Our Lord and Savior should be the centerpiece of our very existence.
His leadership and guidance should be our roadmap and our entire reason for being.
When God's will becomes our will, the rest of verse 4 in Psalm 37 reminds us of this.
And He shall give thee the desires of thine heart!.
When we fully commit to God, He is able to fully and completely shower us with blessings and enable us to find that joy, comfort, assurance, and peace that we struggle to find in our daily lives and to share Him with others.
Proverbs 16:3 reminds us ; Commit they works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Think about it.
If we truly commit our lives to serve the Lord in a self sacrificing way, we can be assured that our innermost thoughts will be always on the promises, provisions, and the power of our Creator, Savior, and King.
Here is some other good news.
God does not expect us to be perfect all the time.
He simply wants our hearts and our willingness to strive for sinless perfection.
God knows our hearts and understands that we don't get it right one hundred percent of the time.
God and God alone is able to turn our availability into something that He can use.
Romans 12:1 exhorts us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice: holy and acceptable to the Lord.
We are also reminded that such commitment and sacrifice to the Lord is perfectly reasonable to a holy, perfect and righteous God.
Will we still have times when the music is not what we like? Of course, after all, we're not in paradise yet.
Will people still occasionally hurt our feelings?
As long as we're on this side of heaven, I can almost guarantee it.
Will God enable us to forgive, forget, and overcome the problems of this world?
Jesus overcame much worse.
Why would we think we should not face similar problems?
The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy (2 Tim. 1:12) gives us a reason to shout Hallelujah!
"I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day".
May God continue to pour out blessings on you all.
Your brother in Christ,
David D.
