If we look at the world around us....
We don't see a lot of people with a sense of commitment.

Families are far too often divided by partners who are unable to commit to the promise of a lifetime of commitment to each other.
In some cases, such a breaking of the wedding vow can be understood and also justified.
Abusive relationships are never conducive to pledges of lifelong trust.
Certainly, abuse can take on many forms.
God alone is able to judge each person's heart in such a matter.

In the business world there are workers who bounce around from job to job, simply because they find it difficult to "get along" with the boss, or other employees. Some workers get bored with their jobs and just decide to move on.

In the fellowship of Christians, there are "church hoppers", who go from one church to another simply because they can't find the perfect church or because something inside the body of believers has changed. A person may experience a real or perceived slight. The music may not always be to their liking, the preacher may be too long winded, the Bible studies are not to their liking; or perhaps the idea of being fed has taken the focus off of helping feed others the "good news" about Jesus.

The psalmist, David, tells us in Psalm 37, verse 5: Commit thy way unto the Lord: trust also in Him: and He shall bring it to pass.

Bring what to pass?
Look in verse 4 in Psalm 37.
This is something we all need to remember. Delight thyself also in the Lord: Our Lord and Savior should be the centerpiece of our very existence.
His leadership and guidance should be our roadmap and our entire reason for being.
When God's will becomes our will, the rest of verse 4 in Psalm 37 reminds us of this.
And He shall give thee the desires of thine heart!.
When we fully commit to God, He is able to fully and completely shower us with blessings and enable us to find that joy, comfort, assurance, and peace that we struggle to find in our daily lives and to share Him with others.

Proverbs 16:3 reminds us ; Commit they works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Think about it.
If we truly commit our lives to serve the Lord in a self sacrificing way, we can be assured that our innermost thoughts will be always on the promises, provisions, and the power of our Creator, Savior, and King.

Here is some other good news.
God does not expect us to be perfect all the time.
He simply wants our hearts and our willingness to strive for sinless perfection.
God knows our hearts and understands that we don't get it right one hundred percent of the time.
God and God alone is able to turn our availability into something that He can use.

Romans 12:1 exhorts us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice: holy and acceptable to the Lord.
We are also reminded that such commitment and sacrifice to the Lord is perfectly reasonable to a holy, perfect and righteous God.

Will we still have times when the music is not what we like? Of course, after all, we're not in paradise yet.
Will people still occasionally hurt our feelings?
As long as we're on this side of heaven, I can almost guarantee it.
Will God enable us to forgive, forget, and overcome the problems of this world?
Jesus overcame much worse.
Why would we think we should not face similar problems?
The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy (2 Tim. 1:12) gives us a reason to shout Hallelujah!

"I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day".

May God continue to pour out blessings on you all.

Your brother in Christ,
David D.

Yes, there seems to be a big issue with people and commitment these days.
Everyone has gotten so caught up in the "Disposible" generation, where they feel if they no longer like some thing or someone than it's okay to "Flush" that person and or the vows or commitment made to said person, or animal, car, or house, or bank loan, or whatever it maybe as if it were a pen, or a diaper, or a lighter, or w/e.
Plus people have been doing that with their personal relationship with Christ Jesus as well.
As if it were like "Well, Im tired of living right since I was saved, so since Im saved then I can just stop living like a Christian and going to church to fellowship with thosee who are like minded, and just live any ol'e kind of way that I want because I am saved and it will be alright."
WRONG!!!
The Lord does not like fence stradlers. He said and it is in the Bible, I would rather have you either hot or cold, but if your luke warm, then I will spit you out." (Im paraphrasing atm y'all~but it is in the Bible.)
The point that Im trying to make is that we as Christians should strive to be as Christ like (which is what the word Christian means.) as we can possibly be every hour of every day.
Sure, We are all going to make mistakes along the way.
Noone ever said that it would be easy.
But we need to pick ourselves up when we fall, or as Christians, help pick up your fellow Christian when they fall, and ask for forgiveness and go on living as Jesus and as God has instructed all of us to do.
We can no longer afford to "throw away" our commitments to Jesus, nor can we afford to "Throw away" our commitments to one another.
It's time to take a stand.
It's time to come together and pray.
It's time that we keep ALL of our commitments in this life.
And it's also time that we pray for our world to have a revival, and get back the life we orignally had or always wanted to have with each other and most of all our Savior Jesus.
May God bless you all y'all,
~Lyn~

I whole heartedly agree with both of you on this matter.
As Christians, we do need to honor our commitment to our Lord and Savior Jesus as well as to our Father, God.
But in our day to day lives, it is sometimes hard to honor our commitments when there is abuse or our love and compassion turns into enabling the abuser of our honor to those commitments.
With God and Christ Jesus it is easy to follow and obey the commandments and laws set before us to follow in the Bible, and it is easy to honor our commitments to our fellow Christian(s) who are in need.
But there are times, just as it was with Jesus who healed the ten leopers of their disease, that nine out of ten will not change nor will they even acknowledge the help.
Praise and acknowledgement is not why we serve our God, but it is nice to know that it made a difference in their lives and thus was able to lead them to have a closer walk with Jesus.
I believe as Christians, we are to always be careful and mindful of others, but to also be mindful of those who would take advantage of our Christian standerds and values, and use us and them for their own means which may not be the Lord's means and will.
I know that we are not to be judging others, that it is God's job to do so.
We as Christians just need to keep honoring our Lord with our service and dedication to Him, and honor His will, and even though we may be taken advantage of from time to time.
We should just keep praying for others to find the happiness and salvation and dedication to Jesus as we have and strive to continue to do daily. Roman 8:28 fits beautifully into what I'm trying to say here, That and Psalm 107:1-2 .
Thanks for reading.
