Warm greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
From time to time I've heard myself as well as a few others say that we have, over the past forty or fifty years, become a nation of whinners and complainers. Many people today are never satisfied with their status in life, and this is not a bad thing altogether. When we understand that we, as individuals, are responsible for our own actions and are the products of our own efforts and attitudes, we have the prospect of bettering our lives.
Do you ever, sometimes, wonder where this "The world owes me a living" attitude started? As we peek back through the mists of time and to the first colonists on this continent, we must see that those early pilgrims came to these shores with a strong belief that God would help them in their quest for a life free from government pressures and abuses of power.
What those early settlers on the North American Continent desired was to worship God freely and openly, and earn their daily bread by the sweat of their brows, and prosper as much as their abilities, desires, and energies would enable them. I am persuaded that those pilgrim ancestors believed in and were obedient to the God of all creation.
I believe that they did nothing without first asking for divine guidance and direction, and I am convinced they knew and believed the things that the apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:4-7. "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing: but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know unto God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus".
To many today, expect the local, state, or national government to care for their every need from cradle to the grave. Far too many today get angry and upset with those who work hard and prosper. There have always been those who have believed that the wealth of the world should be shared equally by all of the people on this planet.
The problem with that thinking is that while we can always provide equal opportunities for people to prosper, we as people can never guarantee equal success. There will always be those who work hard and succeed and there will always be those who are looking for an easier way or a lazier way to obtain riches or power. Basically, expecting something for nothing always results in failure.
God has the ultimate answer to every problem in our world today. God is soverign, holy, and in control. We must let others know that we need to seek His face and turn from our sinful ways, and then submit ourselves to the will of Him who created all mankind. Again, in Philippians, we must understand that "We can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us" and that God will supply all of our NEEDS according to HIS riches in glory.
Our Pilgrim ancestors trusted God, thanked Him for their bounty, and shared what they had with each other. They never depended on their government to support them. Then, as now, the government didn't have the money, power, or ability to fill God's shoes. Only God is able to provide for His people.
May we be ever thankful for the blessings of God. May we always labor to bring honor, praise, and glory to our Lord and Savior jesus Christ.
Your brother in Christ, Aaron D.III - T.S.K.

I did really enjoy reading this my friend. It seems that a lot of thought and prayer went into this before you actually sat down and wrote it up. Many thanks again and may the Lord bless you and your's, The Hawk.

What we NEED to do is get off our lazy butts, get rid of this social class thing, get to work, make sure that we encourage our brethren and neighbors to do so, and no whining. That's what Yah wanted us to do, and that's what we should be doing now. A community in Yah wouldn't have to think about the homelessness, because this wouldn't be an issue. Those that are going through hard times would have their brethren to help them, and they'd be willing to work to help back. There wouldn't be this nonsense about who did what to us, because it would be taken care of, and we'd move on. There wouldn't be all this jealousy of who had what, and the lame competition to get MORE. (rolls eyes) And there would be more scripture readings at Shabbat. Yes!
And, thank you TSK. smile

I like what you had to say. I think there is a lot of people who think that once they come to Christ, they think the world will become a bed of roses. There are also people who, once things start getting better, take their eyes off of Christ and put it on the material things they have been blessed with. My Pastor warns people "keep your eyes on the one blessing you and not on the blessings themselves." God never says you will be handed everything. He says seek and ye shall find. That in itself states that you have to work. Another favorite saying at my church is the blessing is in the pressing. I wish people would work together in unity as one body in Christ rather than being lazy. It is sad to see. There are so many in my church that won't help when asked. They all have excuses but if there was a pay check in it, then they would. I was taught that work you do for the church is a sweet sacrifice to the Lord.

"To stop being worldly minded and start being mindful of Christ and our job to do as Christians." T.S.K.

Please check it out in the guilds "R.B.C. -O.D.B. Thread. May the Lord bless you always! T.S.K. I read it. It is sad that we do conform to the world. Look at Christmas. How much time is spent shopping for others compared to how much time we spend on the fact it is to celebrate Christ's birth. We spend all our time filling an obligation to buy our family and friends gifts and only a minute or two saying happy birthday to our Lord. This year I am stepping out of the box. I am celebrating His birthday. I am putting the full focus on God. No shopping and buying other people presents but spending the day getting closer to God. If I give a gift it will be to charity or the church, which is in the true spirit of giving. It is giving with out expecting back. I will give my family gifts on their birthdays but I am not taking Christ's birthday to give everyone but Him. Giving gifts to everyone is more in the tradition of santa claus. When we throw a birthday party it is to give attention and focus on the person who has that birthday on that day. So why not our Lord and Saviour?

A very good and valid point that you make here in your statement. I as well tend to do more for others around this time of year to celebrate the true meaning of being more 'Christ-like', a Christian. I do my best to spend time with family and friends but also to spend the time and attention needed for others who are less fortunate than I, because that is what we are called to do as Christians in the first place to do. Not to be got up in all the commercial merchandising of the season. May the Lord continue to pour out His blessings on you and yours in all that you say and do in His name sake.
