Every now and then, our enemy gets in the way of common sense and challenges our faith.
Even amoung Christians,
Satan works to change the truth into a lie,
and he does so by planting seeds of half truths in the minds of some churchgoers.
You've probably noticed that the old serpent is cunning and shrewd.
In Genesis 3:1 Satan is described this way,
"Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field".
He seldom comes at us head - on, and he does his best to disguise himself in a way that makes him appear all warm and friendly to the unsuspecting individual.
While Satan may appeal to our desires for pleasure and praise, he is always looking for those whom he can lead to ruin and destruction.
He does his best to convince us that a half-truth is the real truth and that the truth is a lie.
1st Peter 5:8 warns us,
"Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour".
Being a master liar and counterfeiter, the devil attempts to persuade the unwary that he is a minister of the gospel.
He offers a counterfeit form of righteousness, and false churches with false and destructive doctrines.
See 2nd Corinthians 11:14-15,
"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works".
In Warren Wiersbe's book, "The Strategy of Satan", we get some insight on how to detect the enemy's presence around us and how to defeat his warfare against God's people.
Since our minds are targets of the devil, he works to plant ungodly thoughts in both our conscious and subconconscious minds.
He also attacks the Word of God.
You may ask, "Why would he try to attack God's word?"
As Brother Wiersbe points out, it is because God's word reveals God's will for our lives.
Think about it.
Psalm 119:105 encourages us to remember,
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path".
Psalm 33:11 reads;
"The counsel of the Lord standeth forever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations".
We, as Christians, have to know that we are in a constant state of warfare with Satan and his deceptive and destructive appeals to our desires to become as wise and as powerful as the God who created us.
Jesus has already defeated Satan.
Satan knows this, but his desire is to defeat and destroy those who follow Christ.
The devil's tactics remind us of the old saying that "Misery loves company".
The beloved John writes, in 1st John 2:17,
"But the one who does the will of God lives forever".
Be alert!
Be aware!
Be prepared to defend against the enemy's attacks.
May God wrap His arms around all of His people and lead, guide, and direct us daily as we seek His face and work to bring Him honor, praise, and glory.
