When you die, do you believe you immediately go to heaven or do you wait for judgement day?

Also do you have scriptures for what you believe?

One more do you believe there is a difference between your soul and spirit?
PostPosted: Sat Mar 24, 2012 11:23 am

This is what I have found out about the difference between the soul and the spirit. Both the soul and spirit can feel emotions and have intellect and will.
Scriptures:
Luke 1:47 1Samuel 1:15 1Cor.2:14 Job 32:8
Romans 1:9 Isaiah 26:9

Psalm 62:1 and 139:14 Proverbs 19:2 Romans 13:1

Hebrew 4:12 says that the spirit and soul can be divided.

The soul is the breath or mind of man and can only relate to things of this world.
The spirit is the flow of life. It is created by God to be a conduit for God to flow in and through us. The soul provides connection between the spirit and the body while our spirit is always reaching out for God to live and be in harmony with Him.

Your question has made the rounds and I was asked to handle a reply for you.

Spirit, in the acient Hebrew, is "ruach", pronounced "Ru'-ak".
The Greek word is "pneuma" like in the word pneumonia.
Pneuma or Ruach is the man in his own integrity.
This is the part that literally drives a person and is that part of us which talks back and forth with the Holy Spirit of God.

First Thessalonians, 5:23 reads, as follows.
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The spirit, according to Fausset's Bible Dictionary, links man or woman with higher intelligences and is that highest part that is receptive to the quickening (part that makes us come alive) of the Holy Spirit of God.

"Soul" is translated from the Hebrew word "nephesh" and the Greek word "psuche".
This is the part of us that acts as intermediary or go-between between the body and spirit and this is also that part of us which houses our "will" and affections.

We have been created, by God, to possess a "free will".
That is the ability and the right to make choices rightly or wrong.
We are, of course, required to take responsibility for all of our choices and to recieve blessings for our choices that show obedience, reverence, and love for the God of all creation.
By that same token, we must also take resposibility for our wrong choices and accept the consequences for those choices that are the opposite of the things that honor God.
Bad choices, or sinful choices, that we do not repent (or turn away from), confess and seek God's forgiveness can lead to serious consequences.
Those who do not accept Christ as Savior and Lord, will not be forgiven for their sins.
Rebellion or disobedience to God is sin.
All sins, no matter how large or small must be dealt with.
The sin nature, which passed along from Adam and Eve, is that nature which seperates us from God.
When we fail to correct this seperation between us and a loving God, and also a Holy and Just God, we condemn ourselves to an eternity away from the presence of God to live in a place called Hell.

The Hebrew word for hell is "Sheol".
It is a place of everlasting pain and torment where the soul never dies.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Without God we must suffer by our own rebellion, that eternal torment.
The otherside of the coin is that God will forgive us, and allow our souls to live in that same eternity in His presence and in His glory in that place we call Heaven.

Jude, verses 17-21 tells us:
But beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. How they told you there would be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who seperate themselves, having not the spirit (the part of us that recieves the urging of the Holy Spirit). But ye beloved, building up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

(part one of two)
PostPosted: Sat Mar 24, 2012 2:54 pm

(Cont-Part two of two)

The apostle Paul tells us that when we are absent from this body, we are present with the Lord if we have accepted Christ Jesus as our Savior and Lord.

THERE IS NO PURGATORY, there is no "long sleep" in the grave or in some half-way place.

When we die, When we leave this body, We step out into eternity either to live in the presence of the Lord, or to suffer with the devil and his demons in the lake of fire that burns forever.

It is up to all of us to accept Christ, or to live on our own, without the influence of the Holy Spirit steering us away from sin and toward the throne of grace.

Hebrews 9:24-28, and Heb. 9:27 assures us:
9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
9:25 nor yet he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with the blood of others;
9:26 for then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
9:27 and as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement;
9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

I hope that this helps.
Your brother in Christ,
Aaron D.III

My church had a visiting Pastor and he preached that you do not immediately go to heaven. You wait until judgement day in a type of "sleep" unaware of time passing.

I never believed in this and it did not seem to go with scriptures. Jesus told the man who hung next to him that he would be in paradise with him.
Luke 23:43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

That meant immediately. When I asked my deacon about it. He said our spirit goes immediately to heaven but our soul waits for judgement day. Now I am confused.

Hello there. I hope that you are having a great weekend.
I am not going to discredit what your deacon said to you or what the traveling pastor had said in his message.

I will say to you as I say to everyone.
When in question about something in the Bible that someone has said.
Always be sure to refer back to what your Bible says.
The truth is there.

Some people have a way of taking some pieces of God's word out and using it for their own needs or purpose. Some people only hear what they want to hear from another persons sermon or message.
Who is to say who is right or wrong. Only God can and only God's Word can!
Which is steering people away from what the word of God really states.
Im not saying that these people did that, but it has been known to happen.
That is why I tell you to read your Bible and to stand on what it says.
The truth never needs anything to prop it up.
Where as a lie needs more lies to keep it standing.

If you ever have any questions, comments or concerns.
Please feel free to PM anyone of the staff here in the guild.
If we can not give you the answer then and there to your question(s),
Then we will find it for you or put you in touch with someone in your area that will have the answers for you.

I would like to thank Miss Lyn for emailing me this, and for Mr. Aaron for reseaching and following up with the reply to you in a timely manner from what I relayed to him by email.
But it is all for God's glory, and I pray that these answers will help you.
As I said before; Always refer to the Word of God that is in the Holy Bible and you can't go wrong ever.

May God truly bless you and yours.
Your brother in Christ,
David D. The Hawk.

I always like to research something when I have a question about it. Sometimes things are not a matter of a lie or a truth, it is a matter of how you see it. The truth may only be how you see it and it may be different to another person. If I saw two people fighting and one lost their footing and fell backwards. The other person reached for the one falling but didn't catch them. Then that is what I saw. A person at another angle saw two people fighting but as the one was reaching for the other the other fall backwards, then in the person who was watching point of view, the one who fell was really pushed.

Look at ever different religion that is out there and uses the same Bible but the beliefs differ. If the truth was as simple as black and white, than all would believe the same.

Also look at how you can read and reread the Bible and each time you read it you get a different meaning and understanding based on where you are in that point of your life. The Bible speaks to your heart differently because it speaks to what you are going through and what you need to know. I only follow what I feel is right and what stands on the word according to my understanding. I pray God opens my heart and my eyes if I am wrong so that I can correct any flaws in my knowledge and understanding but I would rather be wrong for a while than mislead for eternity.

I believe deary that your running down a rabbit trail here.
From what the Hawk said about the Holy Bible being the truth on all things is correct.
Also, I posed your question to my vicar, and his point of interpretation was that your spirit and soul go on to heaven to be with the Lord if you are saved, to hell if you are not.
But if you are saved, then on the day that the trumpet sounds as it says in the Bible, and the dead in Christ shall rise first, is to mean that your spirit and soul will come back for your body for it too be rejoined with you in heaven where you shall recieve a new glorified body.
If you have a concordance in your Bible it will help you and also keep you off the rabbit trails sweetie.

All correct. In some ways. Truth is a very vague and fickle thing. As you have said, there is the truth as we each see it, and there is fact... but in the end, there is only One Truth. And that is Yahweh's.
The Bible should always be our First Source. But must be read with the discernment of the Holy Spirit. That which guides us and keeps us from these rabbit trails (I'm very fond of them, myself. lol). Without that, this very good book is nothing more than words on a page. And understanding comes slowly at times. With Elohim's will, it comes. =) Know that satan revels in pulling our chains. So, yeah. the truth is going to be hard to find. lol
And btw, we're all flawed, honey. lol Sorry. But there was only one who was perfect on this earth - Yahushua. We're still all a work in progress.
Our prayers for you. For the 'truth' seems misleading, and very fine all at once. But He said this would happen.
God bless. And I pray that your search is rewarding in the Spirit of Christ.

I think the truth will come when we all go to heaven someday. My Pastor decided to not address what the other Pastor said. Instead he said we will never really know what happens until we go to heaven and only then will we have complete understanding.

I found that no two people seem to really agree on the matter. of what happens when you die. I believe we immediately go to heaven or hell. I understand the difference between the soul and the spirit. I do not know what happens to the soul once you die, for sure. No body can really state with any certainty is what I am gathering. God knows and I guess that is all that really matters. We see through a glass darkly but some day we will have the whole picture.

Thank you everyone for you help.

By the way keep me in prayer. I have surgery friday. The doctor is taking a bone out of my hand and has to replace it with tendon. So if I am not on for a while, that is why. God bless and take care.

When you die, do you believe you immediately go to heaven or do you wait for judgement day?
I believe that, when we die, we wait until the Second Coming. After that, we're resurrected and united with our perfect bodies, and then sent to one of the three Kingdoms or degrees of glory (Telestial, Terrestrial, Celestial). Or the Outer Darkness ("hell", more or less).

Also do you have scriptures for what you believe?
1 Corinthians 15:38-42, Revelation 20:12, Alma 11:42-45, 3 Nephi 27:14, Doctrine and Covenants 88:20-39, Doctrine and Covenants 130:18-19.

*note: for some reason, Revelation 20:12 doesn't have a hyperlink, however, we go by the KJV Bible, if you feel the need to look that verse up.*

Scriptures on the Three Glories

One more do you believe there is a difference between your soul and spirit?
I'm not sure how to answer this one... This is something I'll have to discuss with my ward authorities! C:

I'm sorry, but these scriptures are not from the original Bible, and the Bible says nothing about the Three Glories, which I have never heard of. There are 66 books in the Bible (and always will be), and anything added or taken away is abominable in God's sight. Seems to me that the Three Glories are Man's Doctrine and not God's Doctrine.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. (Deuteronomy 4:2)

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6)

And I so hope these ward authorities of yours are not spirits! Communicating with spirits is New Age practice!!!

...I am a Latter-Day Saint, dear, and as such, am using references within Latter-Day scripture.

I am also fairly sure that 1 Corinthians is in the Bible. So is Revelation 20:12. I *do* read the Bible, believe it or not.

I understand that we have modern doctrines that most Protestants and Catholics disagree with, but please do not disrespect my general authorities or scriptures by insulting them. I haven't insulted your pastors or teachers or deacons; please treat me with the same kindness.

Also, I'm sure that New Age Christians don't appreciate that kind of attitude about them, either.

I believe in the Atonement of Jesus Christ, that He is our Savior, and that He will come again. Isn't that, by definition, what Christianity is supposed to be about? Also teaching love, acceptance, and letting others have their free agency?

You've made a few disrespectful remarks about my beliefs and my authorities, and I would really appreciate it if you would stop doing that. Thank you.

Trust me, I've been raised around Southern Baptists all my life, and they've given me the same "NEW AGE/NON-BAPTISTS ARE BAD" speech. I am not a bad person; I am a child of my Heavenly Father, and He has a plan for all of us.

I understand that you may truly be concerned about my eternal soul, but I am living well and happily in my church; I haven't made a single negative remark about your beliefs yet, so please treat me with the same respect.

I invite you to do some research on lds.org, or attend a Sacrament meeting one Sunday - heck, even watch a bit of General Conference! Please, before you try to dissuade me from my beliefs, actually look at them with a bit of an open spirit.

Thank you.

EDIT: Also, when I joined this guild, I told the moderator I talked to (for lack of better words) that I am LDS, and he/she welcomed me gladly. As long as we are all founded on the teachings of Christ, why should we slam each other over the details?
