I would go out and buy a storage bin for him for the mean time, until you've got the pond. Bettas are complicated little buggers, and anything new or getting changed can off-set that balance you have going in there.

So, a storage bin, and a few filters would be a better choice if you ask me. WalMart's 5-15 gallon filters are nice, and for $20, you can get two of those (cheaper and more GPH than the next size up, I believe), and for $15 more, you can get a decent sized storage bin.

Salt is fine for goldfish, yes. You may also try Kordon Fish Protector.

I wouldn't. Definitely better to set up something else temporarily. Goldfish shouldn't be in water that is more than 24 degrees celcius, as it stresses them. Bettas prefer their water around 26-28 degrees. Additionally, male bettas seem to be aggressive towards goldfish because of their bright colours and long fins, whilst female bettas are often just aggressive in general. And yes, you can treat him with aquarium salt.

Generally it's not recommended to house your male and female bettas together, as more often than not they will fight just like multiple males would. You should keep an eye out for that and move the male if there's trouble. Or is he in a divider?

Also, I don't agree with Akari that bettas are "complicated little buggers" - given the right care they are some of the easiest tropicals to keep. Wait till you try Discus biggrin

I moved the goldfish around last week into a little kiddie pool and I have it laying in my front yard lol I have it hooked up to filters and all is good until I get get a pond set up. He had to be in the tank with my bettas for a while though, but it seems to not have effected him much, he's all good.

Also I know about the bettas. I had them like this for a few months now, male and female mixed. At the time I didn't have a place for my females because they were with my guppies and they were eating all of the fry. I had my male in a 30 gallon alone, so I just sort of took the male out for a bit, put the females in and changed the decorations around and let the male back out and all is good. They never fought once yet, no aggression at all. I think they should be fine, but I do keep an extra eye on them.

Sounds like a happy goldfish razz Keep an eye on the cycling though, if they're new filters. And seems like you got lucky with the bettas! I've known it to work for some people (heck, I've even heard of two males that were kept together and didn't fight), so seems you're one of those people. I haven't tried it myself - I stopped keeping females because they either got nipped to shreds by my reedfish, or they murdered everything else.

If the pool gets a lot of sun, float something in there so that the little guy can get some shade. Fish can and will get sunburn!

I demand pics of him, as well 4laugh
