COMMON NAME Buenos Aires Tetra

SCIENTIFIC NAME Hyphessobrycon anisitsi

FAMILY Characidae

ORIGIN South America

MAXIMUM SIZE 3"-4," 7-10 cm

TEMPERATURE RANGE 72-78F, 22-26C

CARE Hardy, Undemanding species of fish, however, is very active and can get pretty big, so a tank at least 36" is recommended, though a 48" should be provided for a large shoal. These fish n** at each other incessantly, so larger groups should be provided to disperse their habits with each other. While 6 is tolerable, 10+ should be advised. Will do well in a wide array of water perimeters, though soft, acidic water will replicate their natural environment.

FEEDING - Not a picky eater, will ravenously eat any food you give them, mine would splash me during feeding time with their ravenous jolting habits for food, just for simple flake. Frozen, protein rich foods make a great treat.

SEXING Females are wider bodied, and slightly less colorful than males.

OTHER Beautiful, active, colorful fish, but in my experience are extremely nippy towards each other, and other fish in the tank. Long finned or slow moving fish will not make good tank mates, regardless of the largeness of the school. It is not unknown for these fish to eat smaller fish such as neon tetras at times. These may fish also n** and shred live plants, including thick, tough ones such as java fern and anubias. These fish are very fast moving, especially when startled or being pursued, and due to their wider body shape, make a good tank mate for medium sized aggressive cichlids. They grow very quickly as well, which is also a plus.
