I wanna do SteamPunk SO bad but I also want to start out sorta small so I don't need to spend so much but I don't want to start an outfit and decide it's too hard. Being a Homestuck fan I know of Steamstuck. So I thought if I did some SteamStuck cosplay I could possibly see how long it takes to make a single outfit rather than start one then decide it's too hard and give up and waste money. The idea is to make a cosplay outfit I know I'll wear and test out Steampunk as well.
Opinions or thoughts?

Sorry for inactivity. Old computer got malware and stuff.

You don't wanna spend money...I'm used to hearing that a lot.

I'd suggest hitting up your local consignment and thrift stores. I'd also suggest getting creative and transforming unlikely clothes into costume pieces- maybe take a creative friend along with ya?

When it comes to money limits it's always my FAMILY saying "No. It is your own money but that's stupid. You're not getting it."
It's me buying the stuff then giving up that I'm worried about as well. Really this is just to see how long one outfit would take as well.

I wish I could get help. My mom is taking a break from working soon so I guess I can ask her when she does.
