Don’t look out into the dark, you can see their eyes fine
That’s enough to know they’re there
Watching. Waiting.
Hungry.
Never trust the big bad wolf, that’s what you were taught,
Don’t ever forget that, but you can forget they’re there
It makes the night easier.
Look at the light that catches you instead
Focus on moving, show them what you know they’ll like
Only a peek, never show it all
They shouldn’t be allowed near your basket of treats.
Your stomach twists in knots at their calls
To each other, to you
Don’t show you’re afraid, it’ll encourage them
Swallow down that sick feeling in your stomach
Remember grandma, you’re doing this for her
She needs medicine, you need to do this
She’s counting on you.
Don’t look at them for too long,
Don’t go out into that dark forest alone
Don’t talk to strangers, you never know who they really are,
What they’ll do, what they want,
Just move and keep their attention,
Give them what them all what they came for
Be they wolves or something less vicious, it doesn’t matter
Take what they give and you’re willing to accept,
You need it.
Grandma needs it.
Tell the ones closest what they want to hear
What big eyes you have
What big ears you have
What big hands you have
What big teeth they all have, they’ll eat you alive if you let them
Don’t give them that chance.
You won’t be here much longer tonight,
Then you can hurry on your way, the woodsman will help
It’s his job to make sure you get there safely,
And then you can try and wash away the feeling
Of those eyes all over your body
Even if they don’t make water hot enough.

in my poetry class this past semester we were asked to do an impromptu poem about what we would do if we were desperate for money. I chose stripping/exotic dancing and there was a Red Riding Hood reference in it. my teacher said to try it with the fairy tale aspect and this is the result. hope someone gets a kick out of this ^_^;
