Aodhan ran, and ran hard. His breath came heavily as his feet pounded along the ground. He needed to get home, needed to get there in time. In time for what? He didn't have the slightest idea, but he knew something was not right. His feet were bare; he could feel the hot sand burning the soles of his feet with every step. His legs and arms ached, his lungs burned with every breath he took. But still he ran. He had to. He couldn't stop, couldn't take a break, couldn't even slow down. The fear of... whatever it was that was giving him this feeling.

He ran for what felt like miles, the muscles in his legs screaming and begging him to stop. His body wanted nothing more than to lay down in the sand and let his battered muscles soak up the heat. But he couldn't stop. Had to keep going, had to keep moving, had to keep running and running and running.

He could see the house in the distance and he put on a burst of speed. His body protested this new expenditure, but his mind was racing faster than his legs could carry him. He needed to know, needed to see. What was he going to find when he opened the door? Would she be there? Would she be okay? Had everything just been a bad dream?

He hit the door running and stopped dead in his tracks. It was empty. Everything was gone, completely gone. There was nothing left.
