User ImageThe Grandview Hotel is a pricy hotel overlooking the Gotham skyline. The rooms are large and well kept with windows overlooking the streets and rooftops. The more private suites are luxurious and well beyond the price most would be able to pay for a single nights stay.

The top floor is permanently rented out to the owner of the Hotel, Vandal Savage.

"Time is something I have plenty of, and I am not adverse to the taste of human flesh."

Fortunately, the events taking place at the Wayne building were far enough away that the day seemed as normal as any other. People calmly walking past the tall hotel made of black marble and glass... a well uniformed employee moving back and forth across the side walk, sweeping it clean. Making it presentable for whatever wealthy customer may pass by or come through for a visit. Through the doors was a large dark marble lobby lined with gold and exotic plants. A red carpet led straight through to the service desk where a neatly uniformed man sat typing at a computer. A man in a dark suit stood infront of the desk, looking over at a couple sitting in the lobby area watching something on the large flat screen TV hanging on the wall.

Though no one inside could hear or see the events taking place at the Wayne building, it didn't take long for the events to become known. Even in a city such as this, it wasn't common for a large chunk of architecture to be knocked to the ground with no explosion or warning of it's destruction. It was also not very common to see a flying figure moving about Gotham. And with the Wayne building being so close to at least one of the main news stations, it was only minutes after the broken structure hit the street that the cameras began to roll.

”Is everything alright, Mr. Savage?” the man sitting behind the desk asked. Having stopped his typing once he noticed that Vandal was no longer paying attention to him.

”Hm? Yes.Vandal replied distractedly, still staring towards the lobby. More specifically the shaky news coverage that had just taken over some poorly made sitcom.

”Are you heading down to visit the Club again, Sir?”

”I was...”
Vandal replied. His focus still on the TV. ”...still may. For now I believe I'm going to take a bit of a detour.”

The man took a quick glance in the direction Vandal was facing. Leaning forward a bit to try and see over his desk and around the decorative column on the wall. When he realized what building was being displayed on the screen, he turned his gaze towards the door. ”That... that's not very far from here.”

”It's within walking distance.” Vandal agreed, then turned towards the door. The weather was fair, he had no qualms with walking a few blocks, and he had little planned for the night other than ensuring his continued immortality. As shaky as the camera footage was on tv, it would likely be a while before they had a clear view of what was happening. He could stay and wait to see what the news could uncover... but it was sometimes more beneficial to simply see to things in person. With some of the new 'costumes' that he had seen in the news lately, perhaps it was about time that he take a more active role every now and then. And with the Wayne building being so close, it seemed to be the best place to start.

Sorry that took a while. No home internet, but I am usually able to update once a day. If I'm not able to then I usually check for updates and type up replies at home to post the next day. So was the case with this one. Wasn't sure where to put Vandal yet, so I'm introducing him here, then he'll be out and about Feel free to jump in outside the building if anyone wants to RP but doesn't want to fight yet. I'll be moving Vandal out in the next post if not.

The post format may also change. Going to try out a few different styles then stick to the one that fits the best.

All around the hotel, every radio suddenly switch off from whatever radio station they were on. Every television turned to static. Suddenly, the radio station became clear again and the TV's switched to a different picture: a man in black and yellow standing in front of what looks like a palace underwater. After a few seconds, the man spoke, bringing an omen of ill tidings.

"Hello people of Earth," he started to say, retracting his helmet immediately afterwards, "I am Nathaniel Grant. Not long ago, I was a soldier, serving the US Army faithfully until I was abandoned once I was no longer of use. But a new army has taken me under their banner, I fought a new war, and was given power beyond my wildest dreams. I thought my original purpose with this power was to kill what my commander perceived as his enemies. But after fighting the Green Lantern, I realized more drastic actions need to be taken to save humanity from itself."

"The Green Lantern is weak. If that is the best the ring had to choose from, then the world is in a much more sorry state than I originally thought. The heroes and governments you depend on to make your world safe has made the human race weak and complacent. I plan to turn that on it's head though. I, Nathaniel Grant, will rule this planet through fear, and become a legend among the Sinestro Corps, praised by all. There is one issue: in my Kingdom, only the strong will survive."

"To all those that wish to ally with me: if you agree with me that the world is weak and needs to get stronger. If you feel that we should take our rightful place as the center of the universe. Or if you feel like causing mass havoc and anarchy. You should meet me in Atlantis, their sorcerers will bring you here. With our strength, if any so called "heroes" dare to stand against us, they will be destroyed."

After the man known as Nathaniel Grant ended the announcement, the radios and televisions suddenly went to static.

"Time is something I have plenty of, and I am not adverse to the taste of human flesh."

Vandal had just made it to the doorway when the TV suddenly went out in the Lounge. Normally he wouldn't have noticed, but the vocal complaint from the couple sitting in the Lounge drew his attention. It was obvious that the man wasn't from any sort of news broadcast. The background behind him, his uniform, the way he spoke... it was more as though he had been able to take control of the station. And his tone indicated that he had something that needed to be said.

Interested... Vandal took his hand off of the door handle and turned his body towards the tv. The more the man spoke, the more interested Vandal became. Enough so that he began walking away from the door and towards the Lounge. Closer to the tv. Closer to hear the message better and try to gain better detail from the setting around the man.

He wouldn't deny that the human race HAD become rather soft. Governments were useless, technology was spoiling the population, and certain advancements were destroying the earth. If man kind didn't destroy each other first. Still... having a lantern take over and rule the Earth? While ruling through fear would work, he doubted ruling the Earth would be something worthy of legend among an organization that supposedly spread across the universe. Seemed a little too ambitious. Too much of a "young man's ideal".

Still... this seemed as though it were something that he should be fully informed of. At all times. While he could go to one of his hidden safe houses, stocked and supplied with everything he would need to survive nuclear destruction... this was one of the more interesting things to happen in quite some time. And if there was going to be any global conquering going on... Vandal Savage was going to be in on it.

Satisfied that this was something to look into at the very least, Vandal turned and walked back towards the door. He calmly walked outside and straightened out the black trench coat that he had resting over top of his black and white uniform. His private limo was already sitting along the roadside, waiting on him. A man stood next to the rear door, and opened it once Vandal approached. Once he had slid inside, the man closed the door and moved towards the drivers seat. As the man made himself prepared to drive off, Vandal leaned down towards a hidden compartment under the seat. Opening it, he pulled out several old but sturdy daggers.

"Where to, Mister Savage?" the driver asked.

"Metropolis." Vandal replied as he went about attaching his weapons to his belt. "There is something that has come up that I'd like to look into. I'll need to speak to my contacts there."

"Very well." the man replied, then pulled the limo out onto the street.

---------The lack of sleep didn't seem to bother Zeke at
all, though he seemed to be rather disoriented as he stepped down at
Gotham City International Airport. It was nighttime, which was convenient, but
he was unsure where to go now.

Why did he even think about going here in the first place?

You've made your choice, there's no turning back now. You wanted to
                help.
Zeke thought to himself, as if to remind his own self why he was
here. Sure, he told himself that he would never set foot abroad ever again, but
his strong conscience and compassion pushed him to set aside his
                inhibitions and brought him here.

The city seemed to be on its reconstructing stage, but the damages could
not be overlooked. It took him a while to get into the City, what with the
                road constructions and all.

The taxi brought him to the closest hotel in the area, Grandview Hotel the
driver said. Sounded expensive, but Zeke shook off his stingy Chinese side
                and went inside.

His white staff tapped against the marble floors, and he looked up, staring at
the ceiling. Wow, this place sure has taste. He wondered if he could get
some coffee, and maybe ask around for directions. He wasn't sure how to
phrase the question though. 'Hi, I'm Zeke, I was just wondering if you know
any heroes nearby that could use my help?'

That's just stupid, and downright laughable.

Well, he figured he could start looking for medical areas that could use a
hand. He remembered having a schoolmate here somewhere...

((Enter Arell))

Arell slid the truck and backed into an alleyway across the street from the hotel. It looked HUGE! Smirking as he slid across the street, he made it to the corner of the building and looked up. If there was EVER a need for a grapplin' hook and a s**t-ton of rope, THIS would be it! he thought as he watched the big building. Well, better get climbin'! he thought as he slowly got his grip. First on the fence, then zipping up a second floor window and catching the fire escape, he scrambled up the third and made it to the fourth floor.

Now came for the hard part . . . letting himself in.

Dynamite? Nah . . . too much of a mess, and he was in need of a JOB, not a terrorist rap. Reaching over, he noticed that there was a vent shaft JUST big enough for him to shimmy in through near by. Opting to pry the vent open, he slid in and crawled through, hoping not much could go wrong . . .

Unfortunately for Arell, fate seemed to enjoy the old saying of whatever could go wrong, would go wrong. Just as he had gotten himself into the vent and begun crawling his way through, something wrapped around both his ankles and began yanking him back out the way he had come.

"Thank. God." a woman's voice sighed as he was pulled back out of the vent. Long, glowing blue threads were wrapped around the man's ankles, suspending him upside down in the air. Leaning over the fire escape railing, several good levels above the spot Arell had stopped, was a figure in a midnight blue hoodie. She wore a mask with bright yellow lenses, surrounded by several smaller lenses. Similar to that of a spider. Her belt was black with several pouches, and her long legs were wrapped tightly in blue spandex. "I was afraid I was going to have to sit on this fire escape. All. Damn. Night." she added. Then paused in thought for a moment. "Not that I'd mind that too much. I'd still get some compensation for camping out on the fire escape. It's still just the fact that I'd be doing nothing other than sit here all night. No sleep. Just sit here."

Just like the last night. And the night before. And the night before that. This was the first city she had come to when she moved away from home. It was closer, and from her understanding the cheaper of the nearby cities to live in. High crime rate or old buildings or something or rather made apartment housing considerably cheaper. Whatever the case, she'd only had a few small jobs before she was contacted for a much bigger job for this hotel. The hourly pay was jaw-dropping, and all she had to do was watch over this one room of the hotel. Make sure no one tried to sneak into it, or make it considerably harder for them TO sneak into it. She was paid whether they made it inside or not. Something about testing the security or potential employees.

It seemed like a shady arrangement to her... but... she needed the money. And this sort of money for simply hanging crooks and thieves upside down was something she couldn't pass up. No one was getting hurt, nothing was getting stolen... nothing bad. And if something bad did happen, she knew their faces and who to look for later.

Arell growled a bit when he was pulled out. It was clear that what this newcomer was pulling out an annoyed young man, who slowly pulled out his revolver.

"You ain't gonna worry too much 'bout sleep if'n you don't put me back in dere." Arell growled, pulling the hammer back on his trusty magnum. Even upside down and high up, he wasn't focusing on the heights, just the problem in front of him. "'Cause if'n you don't . . . I'mma make sho' you sleep f'revah." he said, his back-country drawl intensified.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 29, 2014 2:14 pm

"Ooh... well, I'll admit I'm not sure how to go about this now. Last couple guys I had to do this too weren't as calm as you. They were either freaking out that they were hanging upside down in midair... or freaking out after I gave them a little lesson in physics and what happens when they shoot at me hanging upside down from a considerable height." the costumed woman replied. She was maintaining her calm as well. Mostly because she still believed she had the upper hand considering the man had nothing going for him if she DID drop him. "So... you can shoot me, and I can drop you from where you are. On the other hand... I'm not really sure what to do with you right now anyway. I doubt you're going to run away, and I'm paid to make sure guys like you DON'T get inside." she continued, then relaxed her stance on the fire escape. Easier to move out of the way if he did decide to shoot at her. She tilted her head to the side, making a small show that she wasn't intimidated by the gun.

"Ooh! I know! I haven't tried plugging up a gun with my webbing... will it just not do anything, or explode like in the movies?" she asked, a sudden excitement about her. More her hoping that he'd put the gun away. She honestly wasn't sure what plugging the gun would do, but she had a feeling it would give her one hell of a headache if she tried.

Arell just rolled his eyes. "I was taught t' eat worse punks like you in da Corps." he snarled. It was clear that they were getting along GREAT . . . "Now if you don' mind, I got an appointment wit' Savage in dat buildin'. Put me back inside an' I promise I won't hurt a haiah on yo' pointed head." he drawled. "If not . . ." he paused, opening fire at her feet.

K-BLAM! BLAM!

Two shots cut out from Arell's pistol. Not intending to kill, but to gently (as much as a .357 Magnum can) remind the lady that he was NOT playing around.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 29, 2014 3:06 pm

The woman jumped when the metal around her feet burst open. Not much of a jump... the upper half of her body didn't move from her relaxed position. But her feet sure as hell got out of the way.

Casually, she turned and looked down at the steaming grate next to her, then whistled. "Wow. You are going to be a fun little case... Damn... Well I can't let you back in. I don't get paid to let you back in. I can let you down though. Will that be alright?" she asked.

Then, quite quickly and without warning, the threads wrapped around Arell's foot jerked him to the side. And then promptly dropped him. Right into the waiting cushion of the dumpster below. From what she had seen, it was only garbage from the kitchen and broken and stained bed pillows and mattresses. Nothing he should get hurt on if he landed in it. His temper probably... but she'd be well off of the fire escape by the time he got back out.

"Huh? Wha?! SHIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!" Arell screamed as he crashed into the dumpster with a loud thud. True to form though, Arell wasn't hurt. A little testy, but not hurt.

"Dis calls fer plan B." he groaned as he shook his head. Okay, so up and THEN in wasn't an option . . . but the opposite? That could work!

Seeing an open window, he snuck over and slid in . . .

and into a hotel room when someone was taking a shower?! IN FULL VIEW OF THE BATHROOM?!

"EEK!!! GET OUT YOU PEEPING TOM, YOU!!! OUT!!!" the oddly effeminate man screamed, throwing stuff at the Cajun as he ran out of the room, out of the hotel room and stopped to catch his breath. At least I'm in . . . he thought as he walked towards the stairs.
