Hi,

I believe this is the first time I have ever posted here. Anyway, I just got an email from itunes about '10 life changing books'.

I was very surprised to see that the bible was NOT on the list. One of the titles is 'The poisonwood bible' but after looking at the description I found that its just a novel.

Is it just me or is anybody else disappointed (thats putting it lightly) to see that the bible is not on that list?

Quite the contrary -- mildly disappointed, but that's all. I would have been highly surprised if the Bible had been listed ... by a secular company like iTunes. After all, the Bible doesn't have a marketing department paying bookstores or suppliers to pimp certain titles.

Oh, don't misunderstand: if an "impartial" source were to leave the Bible off the list, then I'd be disappointed -- in that "impartial" source. But a blatant business giving God short shrift? No surprise whatsoever.

Hello! You are quite right about the Holy Bible not being posted.
Though the Holy Bible has been the number one selling book in 158 countries, and in 44 languages.
The person who remarked before me is correct in his acertation that the Bible does not have anyone trying to promote it in any way, shape, or form.
The Holy Bible is the finate Word of God on all things, but God does not have a publisist.
So yes, as a Christian, this is sad.

(BTW-If possible as a fellow Christian and believer can you possibly do me and yourself a favor as a testimony to the Lord, and change the death eater looking thing on you're siggy please??? Not trying to make you angry at me. Just asking is all. Thank you in advance. Philip smile .)

You have a very good point, thank you for pointing out that itunes is a business trying to push book sales (correct me if my understanding of what you said is not right).

Thinking about it from a business point of view makes me feel a little better about it, thank you.

Not to be contradictory- but some people visited my church once and said that around 180 million people don't have access to a bible because of the bible not being printed in their language, alone (they did not specify whether those people could read in their language). So whilst it being the number one selling book in 158 countries and 44 different languages is awesome, it seems to me there is more work to be done, for those who have the time (I wish I did)

Please don't take this the wrong way I am not trying to be abrasive, but when you say Bible does not have anyone trying to promote it in any way, shape, or form. I am a bit confused because, as well as spreading the truth of gods existence isn't that evangelists the world over are doing? Trying to promote the message of the bible?

Yes its probably a good thing god doesn't have a publicist, what if they were to become corrupted? That'd be bad.

((Sorry no, this is an inhouse joke. When I first posted it in 2004 I think... wow.. anyway, I couldn't add any more text than what was there to explain that.I will try now. I can't remove it because my long-time awesome friends would be upset with me if I did. Sorry you don't like it sad I cannot keep everyone pleased much as I would love to. ))

I was just sad that something that had such a profound influence on my life was not recognized.

Now that I realise that its just a business trying to push sales I am not so disappointed.

That's supposed to be a death-eater? I thought it was some musical reference knocked into one of those Yu-Gi-Oh card-makers.

And I wouldn't say the Bible doesn't have anyone pushing it "in any way, shape, or form"; that's what Hawk said. I said it doesn't have a marketing department. The Bible has more of a "grass roots" form of publicity -- not as effective in the short-term, maybe, but better for long-term loyalty. God has people saying "read the Bible", not people saying "the number one book of the year! A thriller from cover to cover!" or any other such drivel.

I tend to agree with dragonbait on what he just said, because tbh I was trying to say the same thing, it just didn't come out the way that I had intended it too, and as my daddy always said... "If it can be misunderstood; It will be misunderstood."

I was not trying to convey that it is a marketing ploy of any kind.
Evangelist and missionaries all around the world are trying to get people to open up their hearts and mind to the Word of God.
But from a marketing stand point as dragonbait stated, 'there is noone out there putting the Bible up in the windows of bookstores and stating that it is "The book of the year" or "The best seller of the month" and such.

I do apologize for the misunderstanding and did not intend to lead you astray maam.

You're brother in the family of God!,

If I may be so bold as to inquire....
What were the top 10 books on that list?
Brother Philip

No it's not a death eater from Harry potter it's a reference to a comic book called johnny the homicidal maniac, and this card type isn't yu gi oh it's magic the gathering, there's a difference because I know how to play mtg not yu gi oh. It's a black and white comic hence the dark appearance.

Johnny the homicidal maniac is Not recommended reading I liked it when I was 15 I am now 25 so you know.. Tastes have changed significantly. But the friends remain and some still like johnny. Sigh. Anyway

No they should just put best book ever made instead, just saying,

I see both of your points and thank you both.

Yes, you are quite right sister Jess, when you said that it is sad to see that the Holy Bible is not on that list.
By the way. Did you read my apology to you for the misunderstanding of what I said and what I actually meant?
I do apologize sincerly, and I know that you do not get a second chance to make a good first impression, but I do apologize for the misunderstanding.
I did put the apology in under the comment by 'dragonbait' since he seemed to have put the entire thing in terms a bit more understandable.
Its not a business thing with the sales of Bibles.
It is the worlds laziness to pick it up and to read, learn, and understand what is inside of it because noone wants to learn that in this "If it feels good do it world" that what they are doing is going to have a price to it such as the wages of sin is death, and because of that it makes evangelist and missionaries have to work harder to get people to listen to God's Word let alone read it.
Once again, I am sorry for the miscommunication and misunderstandings maam, It was not my intentions to put you off in any way.
You're brother in the Lord,
Philip

Yes I did read the apology, however I was (and most of the time am) so tired that I forgot to acknowledge it.

I should point out that you did not make a bad first impression on me. I just thought something is wrong here, I am confused, I think maybe I am misunderstanding here.. so that was the Jess way of asking for clarification, which I got in spades (I am thankful for that)

Yes, also, sometimes people just lack the time to read it. Our world is so busy.

A key example of this is that recently, my grandmother passed away. She was an extremely popular woman, and an exceptionally friendly and graceful lady. Yet, we only prepared for a funeral of 100. This is because everyone in this world IS SO BUSY that they find it difficult to even put aside the time to travel for a funeral. To date, my family has received approximately 250 sympathy cards.

You haven't put me off. Both fortunately and unfortunately at times, I am someone who will always let my feelings be known.

Sister in Christ Jess.
