( Enter from Grandview Hotel )

"Well..." Webs began, trying to think of a good excuse. "My apartment is within walking distance of that place. No offense or anything, but... I don't wanna be dropped off right outside the door of my building by someone I just lost to." she said. Then she took a quick glance back at the large green man-eater in the back seat. "That... and I'm not sure what the building's policy is on exotic pets parked outside the door."

Arell smirked as he rolled down the window to stick his hand out. "True 'nuff. Den again . . . I didn't expec' t' bump int' ya aftah ya got in de way." he said with a half-snarl. It was true . . . then again, when a Big-a** ex-Marine turned mercenary with a Cajun accent that sounded like he was gargling rocks and packing heat comes to town, most people move.

The ones that didn't either were dead or earned his respect . . . and as far as Arell was concerned, the Reaper wasn't getting Websy today.

"Yeah... I was paid to keep people out of the room though. I still got paid for being there, just... not enough to cover the dentist bill after this one." she replied. "Sort of a stupid thing... but I guess it helps whoever hands out the money to make sure he's getting his money worth." Then she paused a moment in thought. "At least, I assume you were getting paid to get into the room."

Arell nodded as she talked. "Reckon I did. Heah, lemme pull ovah heah." he drawled as they pulled into a corner away from the prying eyes of a gas station security camera. Reaching back for the case he opened it, pulling out a good stack of Benjamins and handed it to her. "Dat oughta covah it. Us'ally doan' keep most of it anyhow." he said with a smirk. Well, he never DID . . . he figured the math out in his head. With the assignments he took and the cash he earned, he could have bought that rich feller Bruce Wayne's house. Maybe even buy New Orleans back from the tourists!

But yet here he was . . . living as a drifter. A gunslinger if this was the 19th Century . . . but hey, it worked.

Besides, Webby fought valiantly. May as well give her a little somethin'-somethin'.

The woman blinked several times as she looked down at the money Arell was offering to her. Couldn't really be seen through her special lenses, but the slight drop of her bottom lip should have been indication enough of her surprise.

"I.... thank you." she said, not really sure what to say. This guy wasn't turning out to be so bad after all. Hell of a hard hitter, but not a bad guy.

Taking the money from his hand, she carefully slipped it into the inside of her boot and sat back up.

Arell nodded. "Felt bad 'bout deckin' ya, but if'n dere's anything you need, you jes hollah and I'll help ya out." he drawled as he got back on the road, taking another puff of his smoke.

"Damn dis place nevah seems t' change. Was stationed heah fer a while while I was in the service." he said with a smirk, taking a puff.

"Well.... I appreciate it." Webbs replied, giving him a small but genuine smile. She looked back out the window as they drove on, then sighed a bit. "Haven't been here for very long, but it looks like it's a really old place."

Arell smirked as they drove. "You'd think wit' what goes on 'round heah dey'd just 'vac'ate de civilians an' blast down the bridge." Arell cracked as he took a smoke. Well, in truth, they tried that ONCE . . . only they forgot to get the civilians out of there. That went EXCRUCIATINGLY well. Then again, Arell only read it in the news . . . he was stationed in the Middle East when it happened.

"Den again, half de fun's de danger." he cracked.

"Meh, it's cheaper than living in Metropolis. A LOT cheaper..." she said with a small grumble. "Only city big enough to be able to do my line of work, and be affordable to live in. Guess beggars can't be choosers." She certainly couldn't afford to live anywhere else until she saved up at least some kind of money to keep and apartment and food, and pay the bills. Right now all she could do was take any job that came her way. Within reason of course.

Arell laughed a little as they drove. "Benefi' t' havin' bad guys prowlin' de streets at night. Keeps the real estate down a li'l." the big Cajun quipped. There was no question he bumped into a few. His mind seemed back towards Savage. Was it really HIM?! Then again, last time he and Savage were (knowingly) within the same country, Arell and his "renegade squadron" (dubbed by a superior) had busted up a ring in Baghdad . . . he didn't get a good look at him, but he was more focused in trying to get 'em and less on making friends and influencing people.

Well, he did influence people: Who knew an air AND an artillery strike could turn a building into a pile of rubble in ten seconds?

"Suppose it does. I know I've had to beat a few away from the doorstop to my apartment. Haven't seen any hanging around the building much anymore. Makes me feel a little better walking outside to wait on the bus or coming home late now. Out of costume I mean." Webbs said as she looked back out the window. She'd relaxed enough now that there was a good conversation going that she didn't quite mind the gator right behind her. Hadn't so much as hissed at her, so that probably helped a bit.

Arell smirked as Big Head perked up and sniffed around. "Fo'tunately I nevah had dat problem. Cain't imagine why . . ." he quipped before hearing a low guttral growl and a loud HISS that startled the big Cajun.

"I was just kiddin', Big Hea'! YEESH!" Arell cracked at the big Gator before looking at Webbs, embarrassed.

"He ain't always dat cranky." he mentioned.

Sorry.... keep getting writers block for this one... crying

Webbs jumped a bit when the big thing hissed behind her. She looked back at it, then up at Arell. Giving him a nervous grin. "Uh... yeah. I'll take your word for it."

((No sweat, hon. Although, it would be funny to have them pair up. Dynamic duo + Big lizard for hire?))

Arell laughed a little. "Doan' worry . . . it an' me, we gots an understandin'. Saved Big Head's life when I was fishin' Lake Ponchatrain when I was a boy." he quipped as he passed by a police car. If they're so effective up here, how come we got superheroes?! he thought. Before realizing he was speeding a little . . . and the blue and red lights were on behind him. Riiiiiight. Batman don't do speedin' tickets.

Webbs blinked, then looked back at the red and blue glow behind them. She spat out a small curse, then whipped back around in her seat. "Okay... I'm wearing a seat belt, but I don't think it'll matter much with a gator in the back seat, and me in a mask and costume." she half growled.
