Year 1: [ ] Repairifarge [ ] Match to Needle [ ] Snail to Teapot [ ] Mouse to Snuffboxes [ ] Teacup to Rat Lesson 1 On The Board- On The Board:
Basics of Transfiguration
What is Transfiguration?
Transfiguration is, at it's most basic, transforming one object into another. This is usually accomplished by magical means. However, it is not simply changing something's appearance into something else's, it is actually changing the very item into the its intended target. This very act changes its structure even down to the molecular level, so that when you transfigure a bird into a cup, you are taking that bird and turning it into a cup on an atomic level.
What kinds of Transfiguration are there?
There are actually four different branches of Transfiguration: Transformation, Vanishment, Conjuration, and Untransfiguration. All four of these branches of transfiguration you work with if you wish to master this branch of magic, but you may not see all four during your course of study at Hogwarts.
What is Transformation?
Transformation is at its core turning one object into another. This is the most basic form of transfiguration. There are three different subcategories of transformation known as Human Transfiguration, Switching, and Trans-Species. Human transfiguration however is the most difficult form of Transformation.
What is Vanishment?
Vanishment is the act of taking an object and willing it out of existence. The Vanished item will simply cease to be, and instead you will have nothing. As such, this is the most difficult form of transfiguration you will probably encounter on your OWLs.
What is Conjuration?
Conjuration is the act of bringing things into existence. This is much harder to do than simply willing something to appear. This area of Transfiguration you will learn about in your NEWT-level class should you get that far.
What is Untransfiguration?
Untransfiguration is the act of reversing a transfiguration. The branch is considered both Transfiguration as well as a counter-spell. This branch is generally the very first one encountered when you are learning the subject of Transfiguration
Post 1- Rick leaned against the desk as he waited for students to file in. He vaguely wondered sometimes if he ever looked as small as the first years in this class, but dismissed this idea and instead decided to focus instead on the class at hand. When the students all filed into the classroom, he checked the time and closed the door with a flick of his wand before turning to address the first years. "Hello, and welcome to Transfiguration. I'm your professor Richard Drage. For those of you wondering if there is going to be some form of spellcasting right off the bat in this class, that would be a yes, and a no. Yes, because you will be casting spells in this lesson, and no, since there will only be one spell you will learn today. However, this spell is probably the most important one you will learn in your entire study of the subject, so that would be why it is the very first one you learn about today."
He turned to the board and gestured to it, already well aware of the brief overview written upon it. "Transfiguration, by its very nature, is one of the most, if not the most, difficult disciplines of magic there is. We are taking an object and changing it fundamentally at the molecular level. This in itself makes the practice at once dangerous as well as complex, however is probably one of the very rewarding branches of magic there is in my opinion. After all, you can look at something you've transfigured and know that you've managed to succeed or fail, and by itself is a very rewarding feeling." He then turned back to the board and wrote something underneath his notes and pointed it out for people to see.

"This, by the way, is one of the reasons why transfiguration is so difficult. Yes, it is a mathematical equation, one that is applied every time you try and cast a transfiguration spell. Can anyone enlighten me as to why that is?" He crossed his arms and waited, taking a deep breath and hoping he hadn't confused the heck out of the first years yet. It would be his luck, wouldn't it? To be the first professor in Hogwarts history to basically make a mess of his first lesson and the students learned nothing? He hoped not. Post 2- This is the text code you use to respond to the students in class. "This is when Rick is talking."
He decided to write out the variables completely on the board, to better illustrate his point. "When you are doing any spell in transfiguration, whether it be transfiguring a needle into a matchstick or, one of the most advanced forms of transfiguration to date, becoming an animagus, you have to keep this formula in mind. You have the incantation itself and how you say it, Z, times your wandpower W multiplied by your concentration C, over the viciousness or your will V and your bodyweight A to get the desired result, T. All of these factors need to be present to successfully transfigure something, and you have to find the correct balance to accomplish this. Every transfiguration is going to require a mixture of these factors in just the right amount to accomplish your intended target. Any of these off in any way will result in the spell failing, and the object or creature you're casting it upon being stuck halfway between the two forms." He pointed to the board to look over the class, waiting for them to copy down the notes he just provided.
"Thankfully there is a spell to reverse said transfigurations when they happen to be stuck. This is the spell that you are going to be working on today. This spell can reverse most simple transfiguration mistakes, and is extremely useful for beginner witches and wizards. This spell is called Reparifarge." He quickly wrote out all of the information necessary on the board and then turned to the rest of the class.
Reparifarge (re-par-ee-far-je) t= Fixes Transfiguration mistakes a= caster must be heavier than the object v= intent must be at least medium-mild w= any wand power c= moderate Z= well-spoken, as clear as possible
"Now, I am going to pass out items that have been transfigured halfway for you to work on. Don't worry about any of the creatures left in the state they are currently in, since I can turn them back into what they were originally. What I want you to do is try and untransfigure these items for practice. I will be walking around the classroom to observe your progress and give assistance where needed. When I get to you, please state your name and house, so that way I can start connecting faces with names." Rick then proceeded to walk toward the cupboard to retrieve a box. He then started passing around items that the students could work on for their first spell attempts. Lesson 2 On the Board- On The Board:
Welcome Back!
Match to Needle Acusignis
The word is derived from Latin, acus meaning "needle", and ignus meaning "torch". It is the incantation used in Match to Needle exercises, and is pronounced aku-sig-nis.
Looking back at our categories in Chapter 1, this spell falls under the Transformation Transfiguration branch. It is used to transform a match into a needle. This is one of the most basic Transfiguration spells and is commonly practiced in all beginner Transfiguration classes.
The spell itself does not cast any light or noise, but strictly transforms a match pointed at with the caster's wand into a needle.
The level of this Transfiguration is basic.
t= Transformation of a match into a needle a= caster must be heavier than the match v= intent must be at least mild w= any wand power c= fair Z= well-spoken, as clear as possible
Reparifarge
This spell is the basic spell for Untransfiguration. It should be used to help undo mistakes during transfiguration as well as to revert an object that has been transfigured back into its original form. The incantation for this spell is Reparifarge, or for easier pronunciation, "re-par-ee-far-je."
Please Remember!
As these spells always require the use of the formula for transfiguration, it shall be listed here. Please keep in mind the correct amounts for each part of the equation.
Post- Rick leaned against the desk as he waited for students to file in. He wasn't that worried about this lesson, not by a long shot. This lesson was certainly one of those that needed to be covered anyway. It was the most basic spell in Transfiguration, after all. Closing the door with a flick of his wand, he looked at the class with a wry expression. "Hello, and glad to see all of you today. I hope you practised Reparifarge enough last lesson, because we get to have fun with transfiguring items today. Don't worry, we won't be doing animal transfiguration until later in the year. Instead, we are going to be working on the most basic spell of them all, Acusignis."
He tapped the board, and then walked over to his desk where he took a match from behind his ear and held it up for everyone to see. "Acusignis is the spell that turns a match like this, into a needle like this." took his wand out and tapped the match. "Acusignis." Instantly it transformed into a silver needle, perfectly straight and pointy. He held it up for everyone to see, and then handed it off for people to pass around. "Go ahead and pass that around. As you can see, the match was easily transformed into a needle with this spell, and while it may not seem like much, it is devilishly tricky to do the first time around. I had to cast the spell myself three times before my match even started looking vaguely like a needle, and it wasn't until later I was able to transfigure a match into a needle properly. This spell is perfect however for working on your concentration, your will, and your ability to focus on the spell itself to successfully transfigure."
Getting up from the desk, he grabbed a small box from the desk and started passing out matches. "Now, I want to see you work on the spell itself. Remember, work on pronunciation and focus. Don't worry about the equation regarding Transfiguration right yet. It's easier if you don't think about it and instead work on will, the way you say the spell, and focus. Those three themselves actually do more for transfiguring anything than the other variables. Concentration, will, and pronunciation are the three variables you control, so work on those the most. I'll be walking around and checking people's progress on the spell, and if you need help, just raise your hand and I can come around." He then walked back to the front of the classroom and started watching the students work as he leaned against his desk, getting up every now and then to look over his students' progress. Lesson 3 On the Board- Post-

Year 2: [ ] Beetle Buttons [ ] Avifors [ ] Fera Verto [ ] Rabbit SlippersLesson 1 - Beetle Buttons On the Board- On The Board:
Welcome Back!
Beetle Buttons
This spell is one of the basic spells learned in second year. Again, it helps to work your ability to transfigure objects from creatures.
The word is derived from Latin, muto meaning to "change, alter, or transform", and buprestis meaning "beetle". It is the incantation used in Beetle Buttons, and is pronounced mute-o-boo-press-tis.
Looking back at our categories from last year, this spell falls under the Transformation Transfiguration branch. It is used to transform beetles into buttons. Beetle Buttons are buttons that were once beetles, but have undergone Transfiguration to become buttons. Many famous lines of wizard clothing use Beetle Buttons because they are cheap to come by.
The spell itself does not cast any light or noise, but strictly transforms beetles pointed at with the caster's wand into a button.
The level of this Transfiguration is somewhat basic.
t= Transformation of an beetle into a button a= caster must be heavier than the beetle v= intent must be at least medium-mild w= any wand power c= fair Z= well-spoken, as clear as possible
Post- Rick was sitting on his desk, holding a box and waiting for the class to get into the classroom before starting the lesson. He thankfully knew the lesson they were working on that day was a simple one, and should get the class warmed up for other transfiguration work later in the year. At least that was his hope. He was all too aware of how easily his hopes could be dashed to pieces, however.
He waited until the last of the students were in the classroom before he waved his wand and closed the doors behind them. He then looked around the classroom, deciding to get started. "Hello, and welcome back to Transfiguration. I trust that your summer was uneventful, so we're going to head straight into a new spell to break the ice for the year. Thankfully this spell isn't too difficult, and we can easily work off the rust that you all have probably experienced over the summer. Which, now that that discussion has ended, let's talk about the spell itself.
"The spell on the board is called Mutobuprestis, which in Latin means, 'to change, alter, or transform beetles.' Yes, I know, I can already hear the complaints about working with bugs. However, the spell itself is relatively simple, and it's function is to transform beetles into buttons. The spell, as well as its components for the formula are on the board, so I would like for you to copy down notes from the board and please come up to grab a beetle from the box. If you happen to squash your beetle, don't worry, there's plenty in the box and all you have to do is request a new one." Rick set the box on the table and stood back, waiting for people to get their items and return to their desks. Hopefully this won't be a tragedy like some other lessons that he had witnessed before. Lesson 2 - Avifors On the Board - On The Board:
Welcome Back!
Avifors
This spell is a pretty basic spell designed to transfigure any object it's directed at into a bird.
The word is derived from Latin, avis meaning "bird", and fors (a suffix often used in transfiguration spells) for "chance, luck, fortune". It is the incantation used and is pronounced AVI-forz.
Looking back at our categories from last year, this spell falls under the Transformation Transfiguration branch. It is used to transform objects into either a single bird or a flock of birds, depending on the desired outcome of the caster. It should not be confused with the Conjuration, Avis, which shoots birds from the wand tip and is more of a charm.
The spell itself is a vibrant blue color, and it is found that most starting Transfigurists can only transform objects into birds of the same blue color. As with more practice, however, the caster can will the color of the bird to be anything that they wish, and include patterns, such as plaid or checkered.
The level of this Transfiguration is somewhat basic.
t= Transformation of an beetle into a button a= caster must be heavier than the beetle v= intent must be at least medium-mild w= any wand power c= fair Z= well-spoken, as clear as possible
Post - Rick stood in front of his desk, a box atop it. Honestly, this was one spell that unnerved him a bit, since he'd seen plenty of attempts at it, all with pretty gruesome results. After all, he did have an affinity with birds, and the thought of one being stuck inside a transformation made him glad that he'd mastered the spell back in second year himself. "Hello, and welcome back. Today we get to practice turning items into animals, which is similar to the spell we practised earlier in the year. The only difference between this spell and the one we learned last year is it's basically a reverse of what you have practised so far. This spell is Avifors."
He tapped the board, and then walked over to his desk to take a pair of scissors from the box. Oh yeah, this was taking him back a bit. "Avifors is a spell that transfigures any object you're casting it on into a bird. Usually the birds in question tend to be small, and starting off are always blue in colour, but as you gain confidence with the spell, that will change." Rick then took the scissors he had taken out and tapped them with his wand. "Avifors." The scissors then started to transform, feathers soon covering them as the item transformed into a finch with blue colouration. Rick held the bird up on his finger to show it off to the class. "As you can tell, the bird is blue. That's generally the colour that your birds will turn. With time and practice, your birds might be different colours, but don't be discouraged if they all are blue."
He quickly untransfigured the finch and set the scissors down before he grabbed up the box. "Now it's your turn. Go ahead and finish up the notes on the board and then come up to grab something from the box. When you have done so, please work on the spell itself. I'm not expecting perfection here, just a basic ability to transform an object into an animal. We'll get into more of this later, after all." He sat back and waited for everyone to finish and grab something from the box. He then settled in to watch the class, ready to help out when necessary. Lesson 3 - Fera Verto On the Board - Post - Lesson 4 - Rabbit Slippers On the Board - Post - Review! On the Board- On The Board:
Review!
Reparifarge
This spell is the basic spell for Untransfiguration. It should be used to help undo mistakes during transfiguration as well as to revert an object that has been transfigured back into its original form. The incantation for this spell is Reparifarge, or for easier pronunciation, "re-par-ee-far-je."
Match to Needle
This spell is used to transfigure a match into a needle. This is a very basic spell in transfiguration, and was one of the first you should have learned during your last year. The incantation for this spell is Acusignis, or for easier pronunciation, "aku-sig-nis."
Snail to Teapot
This spell transforms a snail into a teapot. This spell is an easy spell which was taught during your first year. The incantation for this spell is Cochleafors, or for easier pronunciation, "co-k-lee-a-forz."
Mouse to Snuffboxes
This spell is one of your more advanced spells from last year, as it involved turning a vertebrae into an inanimate object. The incantation for this spell is Muresarca, or for easier pronunciation, "murs-arc-ah."
Teacup to Rat, or Object to Rodent
This spell was taught to you during last year to help you to learn how to turn an object into an animal. The most basic form of this spell is turning a teacup into a rat. The incantation for this spell is Fallorodenta, or for easier pronunciation, "fa-LOH-roden-TAH."
Please Remember!
As these spells always require the use of the formula for transfiguration, it shall be listed here. Please keep in mind the correct amounts for each part of the equation.
Post-

Year 3: [ ] Teapot to Tortoise [ ] Chair to Cat [ ] Hedgehog to Pincushion [ ] LapiforsLesson 1 - Teapot to Tortoise On the Board- On The Board:
Welcome Back!
Teapot to Tortoise Sciphustestudo
This spell is a more complex version of the spells we have been working on, and involves transfiguring vertebrates into items.
The word is derived from Latin, scaphium meaning "pot, bowl, drinking vessel," and testudo meaning "tortoise." It is the incantation used for Teapot to Tortoise, and is pronounced sci-fus-tes-tu-doh.
Looking back to the categories we have worked with, this spell falls under the Transformation Transfiguration branch. It is used to transform a teapot into a tortoise. This is an easy and simple Transfiguration spell, quite commonly used to practice at the start of intermediate Transfiguration classes. It is especially pertinent to know the components of a tortoise while executing this spell.
The spell itself does not emit any sound or light, it strictly transforms a teapot into a tortoise when pointed at with the casters wand.
The level of this Transfiguration is somewhat basic.
t= Transformation of a teapot into a tortoise a= caster must be heavier than the teapot v= at least medium-mild w= any wand power c= fair Z= perfectly spoken, completely clear
Post- Rick was sitting on his desk, a tank of tortoises near him and waiting for the class to get into the classroom before starting the lesson. The class was steadily improving, and Rick was glad to see it. He had been afraid that his tenure as a professor was going to be a complete wash, and he didn't want that. However, he knew that at least he was certain that the students were going to be proficient in Transfiguration by the end of school. At least that was his hope. He wouldn't see them after this year in classes, so he figured he might as well make the most of the last year they had to get them ready for the next teacher they had.
He waited until the last of the students were in the classroom before he waved his wand and closed the doors behind them. He then looked around the classroom, deciding to get started. "Welcome back everyone. This year marks the third year that you have been in this class, which means you should have a firm grasp on the basics of Transfiguration by now. If you don't, feel free to drop by my office during free periods and I can help you out with any questions you may have, or help you out on any areas you are weak in. I do hope that your time in class has been good, so without further ado, we're going to start up on the topic of more advanced transfiguration and the potential you have in this class should you wish to push yourself for it."
He concentrated for a moment, closing his eyes as he envisioned his animagus form. Instantly, there was a slight pop and in his place, a red-tailed hawk was perched on the desk instead. Rick took a moment to stretch out his wings before he took off from the desk, circling the room once before settled on the edge of the tank. Resuming his normal form, he grinned at the class, thoroughly enjoying the feeling of flying, even if he didn't have any good thermals to ride when he was in the open sky. "Now, for those of you that are unused to that form of magic, that was called Animagus, a highly-advanced and difficult to master form of transfiguration. For those that want to research it further, you may ask the Animagus professor or ask even me about the subject, but it's an example of some of the things that you will be learning from this year on out. Before, you were working on simple transfiguration, however now you are getting into the more advanced forms of transfiguration. This year is your introduction into such materials, so I advise you to be studious and work hard on your spellwork to master the subject."
Looking back, he gestured to the board. "For the first lesson of the year, we will be discussing the spell Sciphustestudo, or Tortoise to Teapot. This spell is complicated because of the fact that we are not only working with vertebrates, but also with the fact that a tortoise has one thing most other vertebrates don't have. That is its shell." He calmly reached down into the tank and pulled a tortoise out to demonstrate what he meant. "The shell for this animal means that there is an extra bit of work on your concentration to incorporate it into the finished teapot. For those of you that can figure out how to do this easily, then you won't have any problems later. However, this is practice time, so I want to see everyone finish up with any notes from the board and come up and take a tortoise each. Practice the spell, and then untransfigure it again to try again. I will be walking around the room and observing, so if you have any questions or need assistance, then don't hesitate to ask." Lesson 2 - Chair to Cat On the Board- Post- Lesson 3 - Hedgehog to Pincushion On the Board- Post- Lesson 4 - Lapifors On the Board- Post- Review! On the Board- On The Board:
Review!
Beetle Buttons
This spell is one of the basic spells learned in second year. Again, it helps to work your ability to transfigure objects from creatures. The incantation for this spell is Mutobuprestis, or for easier pronunciation, "mute-o-boo-press-tis."
Avifors
This spell is one that can gauge your skill in transfiguration, as while it transfigures objects into birds, the objects in question tend to be the same colour as the item that is transfigured. More experienced practitioners of Transfiguration are able to control the color and pattern of the birds transfigured. The incantation for this spell is Avifors, or for easier pronunciation, "AVI-forz."
Vera Verto
This spell is used to turn an animal into a water goblet, and is one of the moderately difficult spells from your second year. This spell is one of those where it doesn't matter what kind of creature is being transfigured, the outcome and incantation is always the same. The incantation for this spell is Vera Verto, or for easier pronunciation, "vair-uh-VAIR-toh."
Rabbit Slippers
This spell, unlike most of the other spells you have learned thus far, require a specific number of items to be transfigured. In this case, it transforms two rabbits into slippers. The incantation for this spell is Lepusfors, or for easier pronunciation, "lep-us-forz."
Please Remember!
As these spells always require the use of the formula for transfiguration, it shall be listed here. Please keep in mind the correct amounts for each part of the equation.
Post-

Year 4: [ ] Switching Spells [ ] Draconifors [ ] Guinea Fowl to Guinea Pig Lesson 1 - Switching Spells (Metaféroun) On the Board- On The Board:
Welcome Back!
Switching Spells Metaféroun
This spell is a more complex version of the spells we have been working on, and involves switching features from one item to another.
The word is derived from Greek, metaféroun meaning "to transpose." It is the incantation used for the Switching Spell, and is pronounced meh-tah-FEH-roon.
Looking back to the categories we have worked with, this spell falls under the Transformation Transfiguration branch, under a separate subcategory of Switching. It is used to transfer one feature or conponent of an item to another item. This is a more complex Transfiguration spell, commonly used to practice at the intermediate Transfiguration classes once the basics are set. It is especially important to concentrate on the effect of the spell, as you may accidentally transpose your own features onto another object.
The spell itself emits a white light, and transfers a feature or component of one object with that of another object with the caster's wand.
The level of this Transfiguration is moderately difficult.
t= Transfer of one feature or component of an object with that of another object a= caster must be heavier than the items the spell is cast upon v= at least medium w= any c= moderate Z= perfectly spoken, completely clear
Post- Rick sat at the edge of his desk, watching as students filed in and waited for them patiently. They were going to get into more advanced forms of transfiguration, and he wanted them to be ready for it. As such, he knew he was starting off with something a bit more advanced than they were used to, but he had confidence they could do it. He eyed the box next to him, before returning his gaze to each student.
He waited until the last of the students were in the classroom before he waved his wand and closed the doors behind them. He then looked around the classroom, deciding to get started. "Welcome back everyone. Glad to see everyone here, and hope you had a decent summer, because this year, we get to go into bits of Transfiguration that happen to be advanced for you. Don't worry, I'm still here for assistance if you need it, but I have faith that you know what you're doing. In any case, we'll get started right away, so that way it gives you time to work on the assignment for the day."
He gestured toward the board, where the details of what they were learning were written up for all to see. "As you can see, we're going to start on Switching Spells today, and there are two that you have to worry about. We won't get into the more advanced one today, but we'll get to work on the basic one Metaféroun. This spell, when used correctly, can swap something from one item and place it onto another. Like if you have a broken guitar, but wanted to replace the neck of it, you can cast this spell to replace the broken neck with one that isn't. Door without a handle? If you have a door that does have one that you don't need the handle for, you can transpose the handle onto the one that needs it.
"Anyway, the purpose of this lesson is for you to take two items and take one feature from one and place it on the other. Obviously this is going to be difficult, and as long as you have been working on your concentration, viciousness, and incantation, it shouldn't be that difficult for you. I would like for each of you to take two items from the box and please work on the spell. If you need help, just raise your hand and I will come around to assist." Lesson 2 - Switching Spells II On the Board- Post- Lesson 3 - Draconifors On the Board- Post- Lesson 4 - Guinea Fowl to Guinea Pig On the Board- Post- Review!
Diamond Wales Year 4: [ ] Evanesco [ ] Inanimatus Conjurus [ ] Geminio Lesson 1 - Evanesco (items and invertebrates) On the Board- On The Board:
Welcome Back!
The Vanishing Spell Evanesco
To vanish an object is to have it simply disappear from existance, or otherwise, into nonbeing. It's more complex than its counterpart, Conjuration, due to the simplicity of harnessing the power around you to create magic out of thin air compared to completely eradicating an object or creature from this plane through the use of magic. To create is a basic human conception, it's in everyone to want to create, which is why children often perform conjuration spells during underage use of magic.
The word comes from evanescence, meaning to be fleeting or disappear, and is derived from the Latin, evanesco, which also means "disappear." It is the only cantation that is neccesary to vanish an object and the pronunciation for the incantion is ev-an-ES-koh.
Research is still heavily pursued for this branch of magic, but it's unclear where these items disappear to or exactly what may happen to a creature wnen it is vanished; it's a theory heavily researched by advanced Transfigurists and the Department of Mysteries. However, it is possible to retrieve objects from vanishment through the use of a conjuring spell or locating spell such as accio. However, the magical theory necessary for preforming the spell is that of ever molecule and piece and particle of the object being turned to nothingness at the same time. That is crucial, if only a part of the object is being focused on, then only part, or none, of it will Vanish and all that will be left is a mess.
The spell itself does not create any sound or light, it strictly causes objects, creatures (though more difficult), to vanish into nonbeing.
The level of this spell is moderately difficult.
t= Vanishment of objects or creatures a= caster must be heavier than object being vanished v= must be strong w= strong c= complete Z= well-spoken, as clear as possible

Please note that if you have an accident while using this spell or need any help, do not hesitate to raise your hand and request assistance.
Please Remember!
As these spells always require the use of the formula for transfiguration, it shall be listed here. Please keep in mind the correct amounts for each part of the equation.
Post- Rick sat on the edge of his desk, watching the class enter and waiting until everyone was ready before he began his lecture. This was their fifth year, which meant that they had to make sure they knew everything in the subject before they took the OWL. Ugh, had it been that long since he'd taken OWLs? Apparently so, since he was already going through all the things he had studied and realized how long ago it was. In any case, he was supposed to get the class ready for OWLs, so that was what they were going to do.
Once everyone had entered, Rick waved his wand so that the doors closed and he looked over the class, his mind already going over the subject before he spoke. "Welcome back everyone. Yes, I know, I'm not the old professor. She had to take a leave, so I took over the class in her absence. In any case, this year, yes, I know you're going to hear about OWLs from every teacher you have, but I figured I'd give you a bit of an overview of what's going on with class this year. We're going to study the fifth year material, and then go over the last four years for review so that you're prepared as best you can for the exams. Also, it helps to have everything fresh in mind when you do it that way as opposed to going over everything at the start of the year. Plus, extra practice, which never hurts with regards to Transfiguration. Anyway, that's my brief overview for OWLs, and if you need assistance, my office is always open for people to request help."
He then gestured to the board, ready to start the lesson. "Today we begin a unit in Vanishing, which is a decidedly difficult part of Transfiguration, but once you get the hang of it, it should be easier. Your experience from previous years should help here, and thankfully as long as you've paid attention to your lessons, we shouldn't have issues. Vanishing is the act of taking an object and willing it into nothingness. Please be aware if your attention is not absolute in the spell, you will have a half-vanished item and it results in more complications to retrieve it from nothingness as opposed to a fully Vanished item. Which is why today, we are not going to vanish anything living, but we'll be working on inanimate objects before progressing to living creatures."
He knew that one part was going to be a problem for students, since he knew for a fact that there were a lot of cats that were rescued in his year. However, he was going to make sure that they knew how to do the spell as perfectly as possible before then, so there shouldn't be any mishaps. At least he hoped there wouldn't be. "Anyway, I would like for everyone to come up and take one item from the box and practice the spell. Just remember, your concentration has to be premium in this, otherwise you fail to Vanish your item. If you manage to Vanish your item on the first try, then you can come up and take a snail from the box to practice from. No one will be Vanishing creatures right off the bat." He settled back and waited, watching and looking if anyone needed help. After all, he wasn't lying when he said the spell was difficult. Lesson 2 - Evanesco (vertebrates) On the Board- On The Board:
