Though her unique way of speaking was surprising to the Merchant, after just a few seconds he seemed to understand. He nodded in approval.
“You have heard correctly, my little adventurer. I shall give these a thorough inspection and, upon approval, will shower you with rewards.
He accepted the sack and began to pick them out. He only needed to examine a few to know there were several specimens that met his requirements, and more that he could make due with.
“Oh, yes. Quite an eye. This is a quest completed to perfect, and well worth a lavish price. Maybe even a little extra, given how much you’ve found for me.”
He glanced across his table, already considering the array of goods he had. “Anything that catches your eye is, figuratively, on the table. I’ll make a good trade for these.” He set the sack down behind the table so it was out of the way, and brushed his hands togethe ras if to wipe off any dust he might have accumulated in the process of handling them.
“I’ve got talismans and trinkets, wards and wardrobes, jewelry and gemstones. A little bit of everything, so everyone leaves happily. Although–you know, actually. I don’t know if you’d be interested, but I do have something in my collection that makes me think of you. Just a moment.”
He knew his wares well and disappeared for a moment to fish through a trunk to his right. It was unclear what he had pulled out until he held it up, freshly dusted off and looking a bit tired for a toy–a large rabbit plush wearing a very similar outfit to her. It seemed as though it had seen better days, but someone had taken good care of it. He looked at its outfit, and then hers, and then back again.
“Very similar fashion sense, isn’t it?”
