On the main floor of Hogwarts, not too far from the Great Hall, is the Student Parlor. It’s a cosy room with a large fireplace and plush couches and armchairs. An intricate rug sits in front of the fire and there is usually a stack of blankets in the room, maintained by the house elves. All students are welcome here and it provides a nice alternative to house-specific common rooms.

Amelia was shivering as she and Luke made their way to the parlor. They had been out on the quidditch pitch, Luke showing her a few moves on his broom. He’d even somehow managed to convince Amelia to get up on the broom with him. It was the first time she had flown since taking Flying her first year. She was admittedly still a bit nervous, but she was much more comfortable with him holding onto her.

“If I had realized you were cold, I wouldn’t have kept you so long. I’m sorry,”Luke said as he bustled her inside. The way he was concerned, you would have thought Amelia had hypothermia. He sat her down on the fluffy rug in front of the fire and went and grabbed a blanket to put around her. Amelia couldn’t help but giggle.

“I’m fine. Not a touch of frostbite on me.” That didn’t stop Luke from putting the blanket around her shoulders. She had to admit, she didn’t mind it. He sat down next to her with a blanket on his lap."Plus", she added, "I had a lot of fun. I haven't been up on a broom in a long time. It was actually nice."

                                                  𝐿𝑜𝒸𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 : Student Parlor

It was coming up on Christmas, the time where students would go home for the holidays. They’d spend time with friends and family. That used to be Kara, but things were different this year. Things had been different for a year now. Kara hadn’t the drive to do dance anymore. Her father didn’t seem to care. He didn’t care about anything since her mother had died. Same could be said for Kara. They had that in common. She didn’t even go to the club anymore. Kara kept everything to herself not wanting to be the burden. In the end it kept her from wanting to be apart of anything.

As of late, Kara had noticed her father being more and more distant. He was constantly irritated not to mention easily angered. The more she thought about it, the harder it became to accept. Keeping it buried deep down just made it easier. If you didn’t say it out load it wasn’t true. Though the truth of the matter was her father didn’t want her around, she couldn’t deny that. So, when Christmas break finally did come around, she wasn’t surprised to be left at school. Being alone for the holidays could be worse. Home hardly felt like home these days. Hogwarts was the closest thing she had to a real home now.

That’s what Kara thought anyway as she stared into the fire, arms around her legs with her head rested on her knees. She’d come to the student parlor on the main floor not to socialize but to get a change of scenery. She couldn’t say it was helping. Though it was better then nothing. Perhaps if she went to counselling, she could bring back that spark. Though, the idea of sharing what was going on, never mind her feelings didn’t seem right to her. If only she could turn things around for herself on her own somehow. Unfortunately, she was at a complete loss. Perhaps this was something that couldn’t be solved alone.

"Well, I have had many decades of practice, my friend!
And you seem on a quest for knowledge.
Don't worry, I know just the place for you!"
