Magical Boarding School for the rich and/or exceptionally gifted

User Image"I'm so excited for you, Raven!!" The sun bounced off her golden curls as Raven's step mother forced her into an unwanted hug. She was acting like this was a willing situation, going to this school with it's strict dress code and high-end snobs littering the decadent hallways. Raven groaned and pushed the woman away, stepping back a few feet and wrapping her arms around herself with a grim set to her eyebrows that matched the bitter downward curve of her lips.

"Where's dad?" She asked, looking back behind Miranda to their dark blue Hyundai to see an empty passenger seat. Not seeing her dad here, despite him being the one who decided that Raven was to be shipped off to boarding school, left a hollow ache in her gut. The least he could do was show up, but even that tracks with his pattern of absent behavior. Acting out was the one way Raven had to get him to look her direction, even if it was all scowls and disappointment, but now in the face of a semi permanent isolation, anger and resentment burned a hole in Raven's chest.

"I'm sorry, Mi Rae," Miranda's face softened to pity, only adding fuel to the confusing tangle of sadness and anger that had Raven wanting to start a fight. "He is so busy with his new project, and he tried to make it, however you know how his work can be..."

"It's whatever." Raven replied dismissively, and turned away from Miranda. "Later." Raven shifted her backpack to her other shoulder, and pulled her suitcase behind her, leaving Miranda on the sidewalk holding in her ingenuine protests. Raven couldn't stand anymore of her overemotional sentimentalities. Honestly, the woman would cry if an ant got stepped on, and Raven had been annoyed by her from day one about it. Besides, Raven knew she'd be back home eventually; this wouldn't be the first school that wouldn't tolerate her behavior, and expulsion was inevitable. I'll be home soon enough I guess... Raven thought as she lifted her eyes to the magnificent architecture that was Hollow Bridge Academy for Gifted Boys and Girls.

The swell of many conversations vibrated in the air to create a hum of activity and life condensed within the wideset hallways of Hollow Bridge. Sunlight filtered in through the mosaic stained glass windows that stretched up nearly to the golden vaulted ceilings, creating a soft atmosphere of what could be mistaken for innocence and comradery among the hundreds of students that navigated across the glittering black marble floors. Generally uninterested, Caspien reached up and pulled his Bluetooth headphones from around his neck to rest on his head and against his ears. He never was much in a social mood, but his distaste with fitting in only deepened into a dark resentment over the years at the fake platitudes exchanged in the crisp morning air each day for many years now
. It was probably the second week into the new year, and with Summer's end came only the disappointment that nothing had changed. Not the cliques of snub-nosed juniors turned seniors, or the boring placid teachers that droned on about the magical properties of a fingernail. The Summer left him more bitter than usual as it was just another repeat of a hot mundane day after mundane day. Cas wasn't the type to cause a scene or get into trouble. He'd rather tuck himself into the shadows, and avoid the idiocy that leaked out of even the most brilliant minds as soon as they gathered together seeking each other's avoidant approval.

Today was no exception. Cas slipped through the throng of students hugging and chattering about their summers abroad, feeling unintentionally outcast at the fact that all he did was skateboard or stay in his room all Summer. Unfortunately his beeline to homeroom was interrupted by one of the most annoying humans he had met by far, and this was only because Johnathon made it a point to terrorize Caspien since year one at Hollow Bridge Academy. Johnathon's shoulder impacted hard with Caspien's nose, taking the boy by surprise and knocking him back several steps where he bounced off a group of girls whose conversations turned to sneering protests.

"Not even going to stop and say hi huh?" Johnathon's deep voice growled, shadowing the light from the windows. Caspien's temper flared, but his subconscious tracking back to the many times he ended up bloody and humiliated after standing up for himself, now forced him to hold his tongue. He didn't even have the urge to raise his fists anymore, although he glowered bitterly with his glowing teal gaze. He raised his hand to his throbbing nose, but no blood made an appearance, and for that Cas was thankful. Cas remained quiet, stonewalling the obvious bullying from the other and straightened his back, a look of disdain marring his cool features. Before Johnathon could antagonize Cas further, a sharp authoritative voice clipped sharply through the air.

"Class is starting in 10 minutes. Students, please make your way to homeroom without delay." Ms. Maude's pointed and stern features came into view from to top balcony as she scanned the students without much emotion. "Tardiness is not tolerated." The thinly veiled threat broke the focus Johnathon had on Caspien. Cas rolled his eyes as Johnathon smirked as if he had won some invisible competition like the meathead he was and shouldered painfully past. Caspien hoped on everything as he continued on his way that Johnathon was NOT in his homeroom, or any of his classes for that matter.
