While it hadn’t been a long time since they had seen, Ty, it had been far too long since Alexi had invaded Ty’s space by climbing in through the window. Which, was how they always had indicated that something was wrong, or that there was something amazing happening, or they just wanted to get to their bestie in the quickest way possible, and tonight was no different.
It was hardly even night, really. Seven, seven thirty, they weren’t sure. There had been a seven glowing on their phone screen and that was enough for them. Carefully, their friend’s window was prised open and Alexi peered in. “Ty! It’s me!”
The stage whisper was needed. Always needed and when the window was up enough, Alexi clambered in, falling onto the floor with a thump.
“You know, I wish you had bigger windows. Or I wish I wasn’t as tall as I was. Or like. I wish we just had a door that I could use. That wasn’t the front door. Like an us door.”
Carefully they got themselves together and stood again, leaning backwards to crack their lower back. “So I think. I have a problem, and it might be me? Like…I might be the problem in this situation. I know you’re like, so shocked because I’m perfect. I’m a little shocked too.”

Ty immediately, loudly groaned when there was suddenly an intruder in his room. A baseball bat remained, untouched, by his bed. He was starting to think if someone ever actually did break in, he'd just assume it was Alexi....being Alexi.
He’d just gotten out of the shower and his hair was tied up in a sloppy, damp bun. Ty was thoroughly unamused, staring blankly at Alexi, though it looked like he hadn’t been interrupted while doing anything important.
Ty’s room was in slight disarray, but not so much that Alexi risked damaging anything while crawling through the window.
“You think you’re the problem?” he asked dryly, eyes narrowing at his friend.
He crossed his arms over his chest.
The only car in the driveway was his own. Alexi definitely could have come in through the front. Ty had even given them a key!
…But, no. It was always about making a dramatic entrance.
So Ty didn’t try to help them, he just watched them clamor through the window and reorient themselves.
“What happened?”

“Okay, so. Alexi gave a sigh, wondering if they could end up spinning this so that they didn’t look…like the problem. “I just keep…you know when you’ve got earbuds in and like, the music is just so good you can’t help but like…dance? And just let it take you where it wants you to go? So I just…keep doing that but people just keep…jumping…in my…way?”
Okay, maybe that was framed a bit better.
“And I keep running into them. Like jumped from a bench almost onto one guy. He was a hoot. We’re friends now. He understands the whole Jonathan Groff spit stuff. Even if he didn’t know that the man had been back on Broadway for over a year…but. It’s fine.”
Okay, Alexi. The point. “Yeah so. I think I just keep running into people and I might be the problem.”

Ty’s eyes narrowed as he listened to Alexi, obviously already trying to decipher what they were actually saying, not just neatly packaging.
Of course Ty knew what it was like to be lost in the music, so he nodded along, but the more Alexi spoke, the more ridiculous they sounded.
…You didn’t just jump off a bench and almost land on someone and think you weren’t the problem.
Unless you were Alexi, maybe.
“...So,” Ty said slowly, “It sounds like you need to remember to walk with your eyes open, yeah? So you don’t, you know, walk in front of a car or something…? What music are you listening to that’s so good you’re jumping off of benches onto people?”

“Oh my god, absolutely everything. My tastes and desires change by the day but like, this most recent…ah. Incident, was the soundtrack from Six, an absolute bop.”
Alexi shook their head. “Oh God no, so like, I look if there’s a street, I do have my eyes open most of the time, just not…when I need them to be, I guess. I’m kind of surprised that you went right to that rather than the music blaring? That was the issue I was trying to bring up, do you think I should swap to just one earbud or like, swap to less…exicting music?”
Nodding, Alexi looked pleased. “Less exciting music might be the best option, now that I’m thinking about it.”

Ty squinted at Alexi for another long moment.
“You’re asking me if I think you should lower your music,” he said flatly, and gave Alexi a moment for the absurdity of it all to sink in.
“You’re asking me if I think you should listen to ‘less exciting’ music? I mean, I think you should tweak your music taste. It’s a little basic, but.” He gave an exaggerated shrug. “I listen to loud music all the time and I’m not running into people. So I’m thinking that’s not the problem.”
…Alexi’s eyes being open only most of the time sounded a little more impactful.

“Basic? You wound me, Ty. Basic would be me listening to the stuff that’s on the radio, not my…” They paused and looked horrified for a moment. “Unless you’re telling me my taste in musicals are basic in which…I’m going to just say that there really haven’t been many new original musicals lately! And I like what I like! I’m not changing myself for anyone but…basic!”
A knife in the back from his best friend. Horrible.
“Then what is the problem? I think it’s the fact that people just don’t look where they’re going, like, clearly I’m on a dance break, they should be able to see me, and all they have to do is move out of the way. It’s so easy.”
