For once, the earbuds weren’t in. There was a strange aura nearby and Windsor was making their way over, somewhat cautious, but more curious. It didn’t feel…like anyone they had met before and honestly, they weren’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

Finally, the person came into view, a black clad redhead and Windsor hesitated. “Hey there! Uh, you. Don’t feel like anyone I’ve encountered…I’m Windsor.”

They didn’t hold out a hand, but their arm twitched like they wanted to. Still uh.

“I’m going to assume you’re a part of the whole magical space bullshit too? You…I mean you have…” A vague gesture. “I could feel you.”

Okay like that helped anything.

Sphene. The name still felt strange at nearly half a year later. That man had saved her from that monster and offered her a role in the strange, cosmic war, and she had accepted. What choice did she have in that moment? She didn't regret it, but she did often wonder what she had gotten herself into by accepting. There seemed to be much more at work than just the "you are an agent and need to gather intel and harvest energy." But she also wasn't the sort to give much more of a s**t until it needed. So for now, she allowed herself to be just a good little worker, harvesting energy and keeping an ear out for any information that might be good, all while looking like a damned blackjack dealer.

Sighing and blowing her bangs out of her face, Sphene unbuttoned the cuffs of her black shirt and rolled them up. She hated the suffocating feeling of the completely buttoned, restricting shirt, and she rolled the sleeves up every hance she got. It may have been just a tiny little act of rebellion against the man who brought her into this as well, but she wouldn't think on that too terribly much. Head down, good worker, remember? She reminded herself of that as she took out the stupid little yoyo that was supposed to be her "weapon". How she was supposed to be able to do any sort of combat with that damn thing was beyond her.

And then she felt it. Almost an itching sensation, a feeling like staring at a too-bright light. And then a voice called out. Was this kid introducing themself to her?

Arching a thin brow, Sphene appraised the rainbow clad person. "Sphene. I can feel you too. Obnoxiously loudly." Her voice was cold and sharp, and her eyes held no warmth to them as she slowly looked Windsor over. "What do you want?"

Windsor nodded, an interesting name. They weren’t sure what…it was but. Their eyes were roaming over the black outfit, trying to see if there were any kind of symbols but…no. Which…okay! Fine, no big deal.

“I just. Felt you and wasn’t sure what it was. That’s all. Nice to meet you, Sphene. I’m going to guess that yes, you’re part of the magical space bullshit, then.”

If she could feel Windsor, it was a logical conclusion. “I’ve never run into anyone like you…but. That’s not like, super strange. I’m still pretty new at this but. Yeah. Hi.”

Stupid. The first thing that came to mind when Sphene looked at the colorful person before her was that they were stupid. And naive. Were all the people on the other side this idiotically positive and trusting? Was that even possible? She wrinkled her nose in mild disgust.

"Are you always so painfully oblivious?" She twirled the yoyo as she slowly circled Windsor, looking the young page over. "Bit of advice? Not everyone caught up in this "magical space bullshit" is going to be your friend. Plenty of us are your enemy. And I think your luck might have just run out when it comes to me." Maybe, she thought, if she took him down, it would gain her some bonus points with her boss. If not, at least it would be one less little idiot out there.

Ah. So this was one of those people that the jerk had been speaking of. Okay, good to know, and know that Windsor knew what they felt like…they could simply stay away from them in future. Though, if Windsor were being honest with themselves, maybe it would have been better to just start running right now rather than listening to this…bit of advice which really wasn’t helpful in any way whatsoever…

“I mean…it doesn’t have to have run out, like, we could just each turn around and leave. That’s absolutely a thing that could easily be done.”

Their bauble was in their hand though, and Windsor was gripping it tightly, not sure what they could do with it but…

It was the only protection they had.

"Oh I think we both know it's far too late for that." Her lips curved into a wicked smirk as the yoyo was launched forward, nailing Windsor square between the eyes. Sphene darted forward, looking far too eager for bloodshed to happen.

"Dumb little clueless kids like you piss me off. I'm gonna have fun dulling that shimmer of yours."

Two things happened at once. The yoyo caught Windsor in the face, and at that precise moment, Windsor realized that getting smacked in the face by a yoyo really ******** hurt.

“Jesus what the hell?”

The bauble was thrown at Sphene, not towards her face, but towards her hands, and Windsor hoped that the pretty little thing would shatter and do a little slice and dice to those pretty white fingers but, they weren’t really expecting it.

They stumbled backwards and their free hand rubbed at their head. “a*****e.”

An actual snort left Sphene and she smirked as the bauble bounced uselessly off of her. "I've been called far worse than that."

She moved around behind him as she tossed the yoyo again, catching it and using it as a garrotte as she began to pull Windsor backwards in an attempt to choke him. "Sorry, sunshine, but this looks like it might be the end of the road for you." She did not, in fact, sound sorry at all.

s**t. The bauble did. Nothing. So that was great. Perfect! Just what Windsor wanted.

And even more in the camp of what Windsor wanted was to be choked out.

“Um.” The word came out with a cough and Windsor tried to elbow the woman. “We didn’t negotiate this kink, you know. I wasn’t given my safeword.”

They could be cute until the end, right? It was fine. Right? They would be fine…maybe.

Another cough as they tried struggling, and…maybe it was their imagination but it felt like someone else was coming closer which…cool. Maybe a rescue?

That would be great right about now. Their fingertips were starting to tingle slightly and that was never a good sign.

Anyone else would have laughed, but Sphene felt nothing but sheer disgust. Trust a man to make things sexual, of course. Sneering, she held on tighter as she spoke in his ear.

"Just give up and let go. No one will miss you, no one will mourn you. You're just an annoyance and a blight." Was it too far? Probably. But Sphene didn't really care. "You're insignificant and useless, so it's better if you just let go."

Windsor gave a rather breathless snort at that, coughing again. “You know literally no-nothing. I’m absolutely God’s gift to the world and everyone thinks so. Also like…”

Blinking rapidly to try and clear the dark spots in their vision they gave a pathetic try again, elbow absolutely missing the ******** you.”

The aura was right on top of them, which was great, because Windsor’s vision chose that moment to go fully black.

Aruna felt it from a ways away, that faint prickling wrongness she had learned meant chaos. It felt weak, like it wasn't anything to worry much about, but it was the second aura she felt that made her pause. Order. Similar strength. Not that whoever it was couldn't hold their own or anything, but it was worth a look just in case.

Making her way over rooftops, her eyes widened in horror at what she saw. What she assumed was an agent was currently.... Choking out a cosmos knight? Not great. Very not great. Launching herself down from the rooftop, she used the momentum to barrel herself into the redhead, knocking her away from the knight.

"Hands off, a*****e!" Her hand rested on the knight's shoulder as she glared at the agent.

-----

A grunt left Sphene as she was knocked back. She picked herself back up and glared at the tiny woman. She wasn't stupid enough to pick a fight with whatever the hell this girl was. She was definitely stronger than the brat she nearly choked out, and definitely stronger than herself. Making a tactical decision, she quickly retreated.

Windsor slumped when the choking string was removed, landing on all fours and gulping down air as quickly as they could. Glancing up through still hazy eyes they watched as the redhead began to run and gave a raspy laugh. “Told you!” The words weren’t strong but they hoped she heard them.

“God's gift! Everyone loves me!”

b***h.
