STEADY AS A STONE

Lion Name: Ujarak ("stone," Greenlandic)
Their First Stone: His first stone came later, when he was an adolescent. He walked out where rock-covered land cracked, and from each cracked rock, a shrub seemed to grow. He found a small group of elephants and they were upset about something. They were untrusting of them at first until they realized what pride he was from. Uneasily for both sides, the elephant showed him what they were hiding: one of the elephants, one about his age, was stuck in some branches and the mud from a recent monsoonal rain. Ujarak was not strong enough to get the young elephant out by himself, of course, but he helped dig around his legs until the elder elephants were able to pull the elephant youth free. From that time, Ujarak and the young elephant now wear a stone of brotherhood each around his neck. Whenever either is needed, they will be able to count on their friend to help.

Lion Name: Malinalli ("tall grass," Nahuatl, and a bad omen)
Their First Stone: She was born under a bad sign for which she was named. Her first hunt came with trepidation because of her sense of "bad luck." But she proved to be a natural at killing. That was the problem: she was a natural. But she saw the prey animal, now a meal, as a person that she was eating. The bright red blood covering her fur and the hot metallic smell terrified her. She could not make the others understand. So she became a Scout, able to point to a good target that the others would then chase and kill. She was great at that too. By the time she made it back from her patrol to eat, the blood was tacky instead of wet, and in pieces it was just easier to eat. Her job weighed on her conscience but at least there was a stone for that. And that. And that...

STEADY AS A STONE

Their First Stone: Guide
Desired Title/Role: Brynnan's life up until finding the pride had not been a happy one. He was born into a litter of four. His mother was raising them alone, the cubs having been sired by a random wanderer. When the cubs' eyes were barely open, a flash flood swept through the area where his mother had chosen to put their den. Unfortunately, the very young cubs were mostly unable to swim, and he was the only one who escaped the waters. To add to this tragedy, his mother had been trying to get to them, and wound up swallowing enough water that she became sick. Slowly getting weaker, she led her one remaining cub toward the only pride in the area - the Uzito - hoping that they would take in her son, as she knew she was dying. They agreed, and she died peacefully in the end, knowing her son would survive. This burden of losing his family is what Brynnan chose as his first stone. As he grew, he is slowly coming to terms with his loss, and has decided to become a Guide, in order to help others who come to the pride from dark and tragic beginnings. (even if I don't win this boy, I definitely want to make a lion in the pride with this backstory ;w; )

Their First Stone: Lalita grew from a pretty little cub to a beautiful lioness - and she knew it. As an adolescent, she was constantly flirting with anyone who even glanced over at her. This only got worse when she was full-grown. However, it seemed that she simply wanted all the pleasures of life, without responsibilities. Through her young adult life, she remined Unshaped. Every time another would ask her about taking a first stone, she would laugh it off. Life is fun! Who needs weights or duties! Then, one of her many dalliances resulted in cubs. At first, she seemed to be very paws-off, asking others to cub-sit, doing the bare minimum. Then, one of her cubs had an accident, and was permanently crippled, a broken paw not healing correctly and turning twisted. At this point, it was revealed that she -did- care about the cubs, but had just been coasting along, thinking everything would be fine. Her cub's injury was like a toss of ice cold water in her face. Abruptly, she did a 180 the other way, becoming almost obsessed with her cubs' safety and smothering them. This confused the cubs and they pulled away from her emotionally. They turned to their cubsitters for everything, ignoring their own mother. She got what she had claimed to want - no duties, no weights. But now, she found that she wanted the weight, and so finally took on both a Debtstone and Lessonstone. She will always regret what she lost with her first litter of cubs; never having really had it in the first place.
