---------------------------------------- I was in a thread about Narnia (yes I'm a dork >_>') and I got to thinking. What Book/Comic/s do I like that have been made into movies?
For myself, I am a book/comic/movie um...Nerd. So there are too many for me to list >_>' But I want to hear from you, my fellow V guilder!
Spoon: Which book/comic/s has been made into movies, which were nowhere near as good as the paper version?
What book/comic/s has been movie-a-tizd that you really enjoy?
How does the movie version differ from the paper version?
And finally, which book/comic/s should have never been made a movie, and which ones should they make into a movie?
I know its long, but this is a V guild. You can handle it! ^^~ ----------------------------------------

I am a fan of The Lord of the Rings, and I like both the book and the movie trilogy. I liked certain things about each, but I don't think I like one more than the other. The animated one I didn't like very much.
One of the obvious problems confronted by those who seek to make movies out of long books is time. Some things must be cut, and some fans will not be happy about that, but a film can only do so much.

And I have to agree about the time issue. Take Harry Potter 4 the movie. I have read the book. I enjoyd it. As to the movie, I was very disapointd. I did not mind the actors, though Vodimort was so not how I see him in the books >_<;; But becuase of the amount of content in the book, the movie was greatly lacking in my eyes. I really did not like the end ;_; It left me with a "WTF!!!" feeling. ----------------------------------------

My favorite book of all time, ever, A Prayer for Owen Meany was made into a movie called Simon Birch. The first sign something was terribly, terribly wrong? The actor playing the main character--John Wheelwright, or Joseph Wenteworth as he was named in the movie-- was Jim Carrey.
gonk
They completely changed the story, and made the ending unremarkable and sappy. They turned a really wonderful book into a made-for-TV movie. Please, read the book, and don't ever see the film.

Jim Carrey played John?! In what world does that work? I like the book, I'll be sure to never see the movie.
And yeah, Corn, same here with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I love the book, but the movie had me laughing and/or retching with disgust through most of it.
The thing is, they often tend to take out important scenes in the book and add in their own scenes that don't make the movie any better and take up a lot of time. The dragon task scene, for example--what was with that Chasm of Doom into which the dragon fell? And why were they on a rooftop? Where did the Quidditch World Cup go? Where were the house elves? It was terrible. I can understand that some things have to go, but why then add in useless stuff when you could have an important scene from the book?

Supposedly the publishers thought that American kids would be put off by the word "philosopher" and wouldn't be interested in reading it. "Sorcerer" sounds more exciting, was their logic.
I knew they changed some of the language like the word "jumper" becoming "sweater" in the American versions, but I wasn't aware of them being dumbed down. >.> I should get a British copy of one of the books.
I hear that now they're trying not to change the language so much in the later books.
