And here is the first random topic in the guild.
Has anyone else noticed that David Eddings likes to use the word "naturally" a lot? He almost never uses "of course" or "obviously". The first time I read a substitute for NATURALLY, I was so shocked I marked that page.
Belgariad, volume 5 page 303:
"You knew we'd need it?" "Obviously."
I was just so relieved when I discovered that David Eddings knows synonyms for the word "naturally". I love his books to death, but sometimes things like this can be a little wearing.
Has anyone else noticed this? If you haven't, when you go back and re-read some of his books, be sure to look for that word. You will find it EVERYWHERE.

Naturally seems to be one of if not the most used response for his characters. I also noticed this and it does get a little bit grating sometimes when you see the characters use it again and again.

Oh definitely. It must be the language he was writing in, "naturally" doesn't sound as harsh as "obviously".

It also sounds more teasing--like when it comes from Silk.

Sileny It also sounds more teasing--like when it comes from Silk. True, but when it comes from EVERY single character at one point or another... it gets a little irritating. Especially when there's nothing natural about it.

That is true.
I also noticed anything magical is most often referred to as 'exotic'.

I never noticed either. Obviously just doesn't flow as naturally and obviously is a little more on the sarcastic side.

dark priestess How remarkable, I hadn't noticed that. Argh! She's turning into Poledra! Sorry about that. It isn't annoying until you notice it, then it starts to get really annoying.
