What are some of your favorite Eddings quotes? Specify which book they are from, and if possible, which page they might be found on.

"We will need supplies, Belgarath," Silk said, his eyes still bright.
"I think we'll let Durnik take care of that. People who do business with you always seem to develop a sense of outrage once they've had time to think things through."
"But, Belgarath, I thought you said that you were in a hurry."
"I don't quite get the connection."
"People always travel faster when somebody's chasing them-- or hadn't you noticed that?"

Pg. 36, King of the Murgos, The Mallorean

" My Lord, I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offense against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fir which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornement for a human face. Is it possible that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat? "
-Mandorallen

I'm not sure which book that's in. It's in either the Belgariad or the Mallorean.

I sure gotta lotta favorite quotes...sorry bout that... smile , but don't worry, these are the last!..i think..yeah, i'm pretty sure anyway... heart

These are from the Sparhawk books:

*'Do you know something, Sparhawk?' the old man said. 'They left a great deal of bark on you when they were giving you the last polishing touches.'
Sparhawk grinned at him.
"you can be truly offensive when you set your mind to it.'.Lenda chuckled.
'I can but try, my Lord.' - the diamond throne

*"It's hot there,' he mused, almost as if to himself, 'and dry and dusty. The sun reflects back from the walls and pierces the eye. At first light, before the sun rises and the sky is like molten silver, veiled women in black robes and with clay vessels on their shoulders pass in silence through the streets on their way to the wells.' - the diamond throne

*"I like talking with whores,' Kalten said. 'They've got a nice, uncomplicated view of life.' - the diamond throne

*"I get him first,' he said.
'What?'
'Krager. I get to start on him first.'
'What gave you that idea?'
'You're my friend, Sparhawk. Friends always let the friends go first.'
'Doesn't that work the other way around, too?'
Kalten shook his head. 'You like me better than I like you. It's only natural, of course. I'm a lot more likeable than you are.'
Sparhawk gave him a long look.
'That's what friends are for, Sparhawk,' Kalten said ingratiatingly, 'to point out our little shortcomings to us.' - the diamond throne

*"I can go as far as you can. I'm younger, remember?"
"Only by six weeks."
"Younger is younger, Sparhawk. Let's not quibble about numbers." - the diamond throne

*'You've got a nasty mind, Talen.'
"I know, and you've got no idea how much I enjoy it.' - the diamond throne

*"I attend Church services regularly and I always pay close attention to the sermons.'
'That's surprising,' the Patriarch said.
'Not really, your Grace,' Talen said. 'Most thieves go to church. The offertory provides all sorts of splendid opportunities.'
Dolmant looked suddenly aghast.
'Look at it this way, your Grace,' Talen explained with mock seriousness. 'The Church distributes money to the poor, doesn't she?'
'Of course.'
'Well, I'm one of the poor, so I take my share when the plate goes by. It saves the Church all the time and trouble of looking me up to give me the money. I like to be helpful when I can.' - the diamond throne

*Our Pandion brothers are perhaps a bit more worldly than the rest of us, Bevier,' Tynian said sententiously. 'We who fix our eyes firmly on heaven are not so versed in the seamier side of life as they are.' He looked piously at Kalten. 'We all serve, however, and I'm sure that God appreciates your efforts, no matter how dishonest or depraved.'
'Well put,' Ulath said with an absolutely straight face. - The Diamond Throne

*The fire in the thatched roof continued to smoke and steam as the church soldiers threw bucket after bucket of water onto it during the next quarter of an hour. Gradually, by sheer dint of numbers and the volume of water poured on it, the fire was quenched, leaving the owner of the stable bemoaning the saturation of his store of fodder, but preventing any spread of the flames.
'Bravo, Captain, bravo!' Tynian cheered from atop the wall.
'Don't overdo it,' Ulath muttered to him.
"it's the first time I've ever seen any of those fellows do anything useful,' Tynian protested. 'That sort of thing ought to be encouraged.'
'We could start some more fires, if you'd like,' the huge Genidian offered. 'We could keep them hauling water all week.'
Tynian tugged at one earlobe. 'No,' he said after a moment's thought. 'They might get bored when the novelty wears off and decide to let the city burn.' - The Diamond Throne

*"I don't think so. I've seen your attempts at spelling before.'
"Bad?' Darellon asked him.
"Terrible, my friend. Once he wrote down a six-letter word, and he didn't manage to get a single letter right.'
'Some words are difficult to spell, Vanion.'
'His own name?'- The Sapphire Rose

*'Blow in her ear,' Ulath said.
"What was that?' Sparhawk asked.
"It usually works,' Ulath said. 'At least it does in Thalesia. I blew in a girl's ear in Emsat once, and she followed me around for days.'
'That's disgusting.' Sephrenia said angrily.
"Oh, I don't know,' Ulath said mildly. "She seemed to enjoy it.'
'Did you pat her on top of the head too, and scratch her chin - the way you'd have done if she'd been a puppy?"
"I never thought of that,' Ulath admitted. 'Do you think it might have worked?' - The Sapphire Rose

*The rhythm of the hoof-beats was familiar, and it was that more than anything which awakened Sparhawk early the next morning. He muttered an oath and swung his legs out of the bed.
'What is it, dear?' Ehlana asked in a sleepy voice.
"Faran got loose,' he said in an irritated tone. 'He managed to pull his picket-line free somehow.'
"He won't run away, will he?'
'And miss all the entertainment staying just out of my reach all morning will give him? Of course not.' - The Sapphire Rose

*'Just what sort of indiscretions are we talking about here, Master Platime?' Ehlana asked suspiciously.
'Oh, nothing really worth mentioning, Your Majesty,' he replied deprecatingly. "There were a few incidental murders, assorted thefts, robberies, extortions, burglaries, arson, smuggling, highway robbery, cattle-rustling, pillaging a couple of monasteries, operating unlicensed brothels - that sort of thing.
"You have been busy, haven't you, Platime?' Stragen said admiringly.
"It's a way to pass the time. I think we'd better just make it a general pardon, Your Majesty. I'm bound to forget a few offences here and there.'
"Is there any crime you haven't committed, Master Platime?' she asked sternly.
'Barratry, I think, Your Majesty. Of course I'm not sure what it means, so I can't be entirely positive.'
"It's when a ship captain wrecks his ship in order to steal the cargo,' Stragen supplied.
'No, I've never done that. Also, I've never had canal knowledge of an animal, I've never practised witchcraft, and I've never committed treason.'
"Those are the more really serious ones, I suppose,' Ehlana said with a perfectly straight face. "I do so worry about the morals of foolish young sheep.' - The Sapphire Rose

*"I think you're going to get yelled at again, Sparhawk.'
There's nothing new about that. Is Kalten here in the palace?'
Khalad nodded. 'The food's better here, and he isn't expected to pray three times a day. Besides, I think he's got his eye on one of the chambermaids.'
That wouldn't surprise me very much. Is Stragen here too?'
'No. Something came up, and he had to go back to Emsat.'
'Get Kalten up then. Have him join us in the kitchen. I want to talk with him. I'll be along in a bit. I'm going to the bathhouse first.'
'The water won't be warm. They let the fires go out at night.'
'We're soldiers of God, Khalad. We're all supposed to be unspeakably brave.'
'I'll try to remember that, my Lord.' - Domes of Fire

"The fight wasn't really all that serious, Rabbit. Our arrows were coming out of the dark, so no one on Kajak's ships could be certain just exactly where we were, and as long as nobody was steering the ships of the mad who used to be called Kajak, the Seagull was in no real danger."

"You've got a very peculiar way of looking at the world, Longbow. If they used to call him Kajak, what do they call him now?"

Longbow shrugged. " 'Dead,' probably," he replied.

These are from the Sparhawk series. also known as the Elenium and the Tamuli.

"So many good ideas have to be discarded simply because they won't work."
- Kalten
The Sapphire Rose

"That's very shaky moral ground, Kalten," Bevier said disapprovingly.
"I know," Kalten admitted. "That's why you have to run across the top of it so fast."
- The Hidden City

"You forget something, Sparhawk," she said. "I'm not really a woman."
He looked her slowly up and down until she blushed furiously -he owed her that, he felt.
"Oh?"
- Sparhawk
The Sapphire Rose

"Aren't you being a little overcautious, Sephrenia?" Sparhawk asked her.
"I don't know, Sparhawk. I've never dealt with anything like Bhelliom before and I can't even begin to imagine the limits of its power. I know enough, though, to know that it can corrupt anything - even the Elene God or the Younger Gods of Styricum."
"All except Aphrael," Kurik corrected.
She shook her head. "Even Aphrael was tempted by Bhelliom when she was carrying it up out of that abyss to bring it to us."
"Why didn't she just keep it for herself, then?"
"Love. My Goddess loves us all, and she gave up Bhelliom willingly out of that love. Bhelliom can't begin to understand love. In the end, that may be our only defense against it."
- Sephrenia
The Sapphire Rose

Ulath?" he said suspiciously.
"Yes Kalten?"
"In all the time we've been travelling together, I haven't seen you cook more than once or twice."
"No, you probably haven't."
"When does your turn come?"
"It doesn't. My job is to keep track of whose turn it is. You wouldn't really expect me to do that and cook, too, would you? Fair is fair, after all."
"Who appointed you?"
"I volunteered. Church Knights are supposed to do that when unpleasant tasks come up. That's one of the reasons people respect us so much."
- The Sapphire Rose

Rebal struck an exaggerated pose and raised both arms over his head. He began to speak, intoning guttural words in a hollow, booming voice.
"Is that Styric?" Kalten whispered to Sephrenia. "It doesn't sound like Styric to me."
"It's gibberish," she replied scornfully.
Kalten frowned. "I don't think I've heard of them," he whispered. "What part of the world do the Gibbers come from?"
She stared at him, her face baffled.
"Did I say it wrong?", he asked. "Are they called the Gibberese, or maybe the Gibberenians? - the people who speak Gibberish, I mean."
"Oh, Kalten," she laughed softly, "I love you."
"What did I say?"
- The Shining Ones

'I love wearing armor in mosquito country,' Kalten said gaily. 'I have this picture of hordes of theh little bloodsuckers sitting around with teeny little hammers trying to pound their beaks straight again.'
- Domes of Fire

Watch your mouth Talen!" said Kurik.
"I can't Kurik, my nose gets in the way."
- The Diamond Throne

"All right then," Vanion said, "Let's get started, gentlemen. We have a number of friendly patriarchs to round up, and Kalten, I want you to start practising forgery. The names you'll be substituting on those arrest warrants will have to be in the handwriting of the Earl of Lenda." He paused thoughtfully, looking at his blond subordinate. "You'd better take Sparhawk with you," he added.
"I can manage, My Lord."
Vanion shook his head. "No Kalten," he disagreed. "I don't think so. I've seen your attempts at spelling before."
"Bad?" Darellon asked him.
"Terrible my friend. Once he wrote down a six-letter word and he didn't manage to get a single letter right."

"What are we supposed to do?" Kalten asked her.
"It's really quite simple, Kalten," Ulath said. "You watch Tynian very closely. As soon as he begins behaving like a butterfly, tell Sparhawk about it. I'll watch you for signs of froggishness. Just as soon as you start trying to catch flies with your tongue, I'll know that you're starting to lose your grip on things."
- The Sapphire Rose

After the cracking of the world:
'How remarkable,' the young she-wolf at my side observed.
'You say that overmuch,' I told her sharply, stung by my own griefs. Her casual dismissal of the catastrophe we'd just witnessed seemed a little understated and more than a little cold-blooded.
'Do you not find it remarkable?' she asked me quite calmly. How are you going to argue with a wolf?
'I do,' I replied, 'but one should not say that too often lest one be thought simple.

That quote was actually in the Queen of Sorcery. It was Madorallen to the Murgo ambassdor to the Arendish court.

One of my favorites:

"Watch your mouth, boy!" "I can't Kurik, my nose gets in the way."
Between Kurik and Talen in The Diamond Throne (Book one of the Elenium)

I'll put up more later after I refreash my memory on which books they're in.

Actually it's in Seeress of Kell. I just finished rereading it. It was at the end, he was saying it to some hotheaded baron or something.

I know one of these has been posted already, but it explains another of my favorites.

"Good luk. Fyve moor of are missing patriarks showd up at the bak gait of the chapterhowse a half our ago. They herd we were protekting out frends, and they maid a run for it. Forchunate, wot?"
-Kalten's note to Sparhawk, The Sapphire Rose

"'I'd be careful, King Wargun,' Kalten advised over his shoulder as he and Sparhawk started back to where their friends had dismounted. 'He bites.'
"'Which one? Spahawk or the horse?'
"'Take your pick, your Majesty.'"
