This is a oneshot 'V For Vendetta' fanfic. This is not my first attempt at fanfic, but it will be the first time i let a fanfic i've written see the light of day. So, yes. Be gentle.
It's a bit of a flashback story, and it occurs shortly after V has brought Evey to stay in the Shadow Gallery for the first time. If you want to be specific, it occurs sometime in early December, after Prothero has been 'dealt with', but before V kills Liliman. ____
Title: "Blackbird" ~
Summary: Oneshot; Provoked by a certain song, Evey tells V a little story about her past.
"... Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly ..." ~
Characters: V, Evey, Evey's mother (in a flashback) ~
Rating: G ~
Disclaimer: These characters aren't mine, they belong to Alan Moore. Er, um ... something witty about not owning them but wishing I did, and so on, and so on. Etc.
'Blackbird', it's music and it's lyrics, are copyright Lennon/McCartney. ~

That was awesome! I'm not sure how you intended the writing to feel, but I couldn't decide whether to laugh, grin, cry, *enter cliche here*. It's really beginning to astound me how many good writers there are, on this thread alone, and some like yourself having never shown a work. You should show of the rest, in your own good time. biggrin

Thank you, Suzumu and Swift :}
@Suzumu: yes, i wanted it to be very back and forth between emotions as in, sometimes it would be cute, and sometimes it would be sad, and sometimes it woulf be funny, etc. overall, it's just supposed to be a nice little narrative about Evey's past and how they both realize V fits in with it (no coincidences, right?)
@Swift: thank you! at this point in their relationship, i like to think of V as a professor, and Evey as a fidgety middle schooler lol

I love it! Parallelism is one of my favorite literary devices, so the parallels that you drew between the blackbirds and V were great. I liked this line in particular: Magnolia Simms "I'm very sorry," she whispered ever so quietly, "For what I called you before, that is. I'm sorry I called you ugly, and I'm sorry I was so mean to you. I didn't know you liked me so much, and I'm very very sorry I thought so badly of you." I can just hear her saying this to V, substituting "a monster" for "ugly." I'm sure that's what you meant, too, I'm just remarking on how much I liked it.

I thought the exact same thing at that point. It was wonderful.
>.> Except, of course, that she hasn't called him a monster yet.
But wouldn't that be a wonderful reconciliation when she returns? Simply playing that song as a means to say "I'm sorry".

I wanted to put as many different parallels between V and the blackbirds as possible and some of them are easy to get right away but look and see if you can spot some more.
(hint: notice the number of blackbirds that are perched outside of Evey's window)

Yes, there is that but of course he hasn't put her through the fake detainment center yet and she still knows little to nothing about who he is, and his past. This is still quite early in their relationship. I would say it's maybe a few weeks into her stay, sometime in early December.
With him having to leave her alone there and go out to run, erm, "errands" she's left with little to do to pass the time, so she does odd chores and listens to his jukebox.
Why yes it would! I think that would be a very sweet gesture indeed. She's also got the right idea at the end there when she suggests the birdfeeder next to the jukebox ... ;}

(hint: notice the number of blackbirds that are perched outside of Evey's window)*gasp* I just got that one! ...Yeah, I can be sad sometimes... sweatdrop I don't necessarily want to say what it is, but...eh, felt like saying something. Solving things like that is rare for me.
