Okay, I know it's a lame topic, but it's something.

If there were a specific soundtrack based on Eddings' books, what songs do you think it would include? Why did you pick those songs?

Do you by any chance associate a character with a song?

The song

"did you know your my hero, you're everything I'd like to be."

That one would be CeNedra to Polgara. and Polgara to Belderan.

The song.
Your the wind beneath my wings.

Garion to Belgarath. and Leldorin to Garion.

I'm in band and I've played a song called War of the Gods. When we played it The Belgariad always came to mind.

Ok, whenever I listen to "My Last Breath" by Evanescence (their best song, others are to overplayed) I always have like a little music video going in my head. It's always moments and scenes from the Elenium series, primely The Sapphire Rose. They are the sad scenes that relate to the lyrics like Kurik dying or Sparhawk and Ehlana saying goodbye. or even scenes that don't exist. For example, I'll see Ehlana crying( crying crying ) while holding a picture of Sparhawk or Sparhawk staring at one of Ehlana's curls in the Tamuli series. It looks great in my head and I wish everyone could see it but unfortunatly I can't download it from my head! crying crying

This isn't a song, but the poem, "In a Vale" by Robert Frost always reminds me of The Belgariad/Mallorean.

When I was young, we dwelt in a vale
By a misty fen that rang all night,
And thus it was the maidens pale
I knew so well, whose garments trail
Across the reeds to the window light.

The fen had every kind of bloom,
And for every kind there was a face,
And a voice that has sounded in my room
Across the sill from outer gloom.
Each came singly unto her place,

But all came every night with the mist;
And often they brought so much to say
Of things of moment to which, they wist,
One so lonely was fain to list,
That the stars were almost faded away

Before the last went, heavy with dew,
Back to the place from which she came--
Where bird was before it flew,
Where flower was before it grew,
Were bird and flower were one and the same.

And thus it is I know so well
Why the flower has odor, the bird has song.
You have only to ask me, and I can tell.
No, not vainly there did I dwell,
Nor vainly listen all the night long.

I think if Torak had a theme song thingy it could be the song "Burn" by The Cure.

"Don't look don't look" the shadows breathe
Whispering me away from you
"Don't wake at night to watch her sleep
You know that you will always lose
This trembling
Adored
Tousled bird mad girl... "
But every night I burn
But every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again

"Oh don't talk of love" the shadows purr
Murmuring me away from you
"Don't talk of worlds that never were
The end is all that's ever true
There's nothing you can ever say
Nothing you can ever do... "
Still every night I burn
Every night I scream your name
Every night I burn
Every night the dream's the same
Every night I burn
Waiting for my only friend
Every night I burn
Waiting for the world to end

"Just paint your face" the shadows smile
Slipping me away from you
"Oh it doesn't matter how you hide
Find you if we're wanting to
So slide back down and close your eyes
Sleep a while
You must be tired... "
But every night I burn
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again
Every night I burn
Scream the animal scream
Every night I burn
Dream the crow black dream

Dream the crow black dream...

Also, the song Tragic Kingdom, by No Doubt, also reminds me of The Belgariad and Mallorean. Actually, it reminds me mostly of Zakath, especially the part about the king who's "tears are frozen stiff, icicles drip from his eyes"...

No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom Lyrics

Once was a magical place
Over time it was lost
Price increased the cost
Now the fortune of the kingdom
Is locked up in its dungeon vaults
The castle floor lies in traps
With coiled wired set back
Decoyed by old cheese
Now the drawbridge has been lifted
As the millions

They drop to their knees
They pay homage to a king
Whose dreams are buried
In their minds

His tears are frozen stiff
Icicles drip from his eyes
The cold wind blows as it snows
On those who fight to get in
On heads that are small
Disillusioned as they enter

They're unaware what's
Behind castle walls
But now it's written in stone
The king has been overthrowned
By jesterly fools
And the power of the people
Shall come to believe they do rule
They pay homage to a king
Whose dreams are buried
In their minds
His tears are frozen stiff

Icicles drip from his eyes
Welcome to the tragic kingdom
Cornfields of popcorn
Have yet to spring open
Have they lost their heads
Or are they just all blind mice
We've heard all their stories
One too many times
Hypnotized by fireflies
That glow in the dark
Midgets that disquise themselves
As tiny little dwarfs

The parade that's electrical
It serves no real purpose
Just takes up a lot of juice
Just to impress us
They pay homage to a king
Whose dreams are buried
In their minds
His tears are frozen stiff

Icicles drip from his eyes
Welcome to the tragic kingdom
Cornfields of popcorn
Have yet to spring open

I was thinking for the part when Sparhawk presents himself to Ehlana and she's encased in the crystal, Only Time, by Enya.

I'm listening to "Into the West" from The Return of the King. I just suddenly was hit with a picture of Sparhawk laying Kurik down in the Sapphire Rose when Kurik dies and him at Kurik's funeral, I saw Durnik laying Toth down when he was killed and them at hisfuneral. I think of "Into the West" now as a tribute to the dead.

The song Burn by The Cure always makes me think of Kal Torak.

"Fingal's Cave" aka "Herbrids Overture" by Felix Mendelson. It gives the feeling of restrained power that could go for the gods or any of their disciples. Anything by Gary Stadler reminds me of both series.

I love Gary Stadler. I never really thought about the series', but I can kind of see that.

where'd it go?

[ok, I know this might sound weird, but I found this song on Youtube that has absolutely stolen my heart. It's a lullaby by Vienna Teng called "Lullaby for a Stormy Night". It's basically this mother telling her child that the same rain that scares them makes everything beautiful in the morning and that she had gone through the same thing when she was little. It's deep meaning, though, is that there are some things in life that will scare you and times when life will be tough but that you have to look forward to the new day and the wonders it will bring.

The song makes me think of the mothers in Eddings' stories; Ce'Nedra, Ehlana, Polgara, Poledra, and it makes me think of what they see in their children and the wonder they must go through everyday because there is this child that you created and that totally trusts and loves you. It makes me think there is something in this world to look forward too. Lately I haven't had a lot of that so I just thought that this song sorta is a grounder.
Here's the link to the video, just in case you wanna check it out. ^_^ ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK_OGkWFFSU]

I just want my life back.
