Chapter One
Deadly Horizon.

User Image

A dear friend of those to the Castle has a strange situation regarding a certain shadow like tattoo upon her wrist. A heavy one at that yet as weightless as death, harbering within its many forms ranging from mercy to the rather sadistic. Each with their role and purpose which innocently it was Sadistic's idea for fun to go around Halloween as the grim reaper - since then humanity has never been the same and the Angel of Death wasn't too impressed, yet not bothered as it wasn't all that harmful. Yet Sadistic has a habit of getting them all in hot water and once upon a dark hour in the pages of history a certain emperor, crazed with an obsession with death ended up getting them into some serious business. Well actually it was Sadistic that did that, as they could have just ignored the idiot.

In any case, to cut a story of the ages short, 'death' was punished by their guardian, the Angel of Death and were to be assigned to another party in which their movements would be supervised while the Angel of Death puts the world to rights once more; more or less.

So on their way performing certain tasks along the way, assisting in cleaning up their mess they headed for the castle of which their fate and that of another lies. They travelled through the forest, removing a menace they caused to migrate there, and it of which began to devastate it, so the whole lot was cleaned up - dropped dead to be precise. And that is how a shadowy tattoo upon Embers arm came to be, a tattoo of death. Their punishment is hers also apparently, by a certain big guy giving her a chance to make good - free will and all that jazz, as he isn't all that happy with her past. Oh well, not exactly her fault she was born and raised the way she was; but there shall be no questioning! None what so ever.

The story continues after the introduction of Mercy, a small cute girl in a white dress with a heart bigger than any. Sadistic likes picking on her and Honour loves wrestling Sadistic into better ways. Seduction enjoys herself too much, and Loyal shakes his head. Integrity encourages the others to stop it and Deceit, well no one really knows do they! There are others, but we'll start with them for now. Enjoy your life while you still can, for death comes.

((woot! Let the story begin! ^.^))

The day had dawned bright and sunny, and a gentle breeze seemed to have taken up residence around the castle fields and forrest. If anyone was looking for Ember, they would be hard pressed to find her. The fireplace was empty, no one was on the roof, and even the elemental's favorite bench in the garden was vacant. No one would have thought to look for her in the forest that surrounded the castle; however, that is exactly where she was. High in one of the ancient trees the young woman sat, perched on a thick branch and leaning against the trunk of the tree. Her face was turned up towards the sky, and it seemed like the red head was drinking in the sunlight. Ember's customary long sleeve black shirt was missing, and the simple tank top she wore revealed the various tattoos that graced her arms. Raichi was missing from his customary place on Ember's shoulders as well. In fact, the salamander wasn't with the woman at all. The absence of her normal shirt and companion made the thick swirling tattoo that covered her right arm from wrist to shoulder all the more apparent.

With a quiet sigh, Ember opened her eyes and sat up slightly. Chuckling quietly, the young woman shook her head a tiny bit. Raichi had been right again, she really hadn't gotten enough time for herself lately. With a smile Ember returned to leaning on the tree and looking up at the sky. Even after all this time, it still surprised her how accurately the little salamander could judge her moods. That morning he had nudged her out of the fireplace and declared that she needed to "go out and soak up the sun" rather than stay inside. With another quiet chuckle, Ember shaded her face with her right hand. The sun was great, but it did get to be a bit of a pain when it was glaring down in her eyes. Ember was still partly human after all.
Looking up at her arm, Ember sighed once again. However, this sigh was far from content. The elemental had put off thinking about what the lager of her two tattoos actually meant, and she and all but refused to deal with the power she now seemed to contain. With another exasperated sigh, Ember dropped her arm to her side and shut her eyes once more. However, she couldn't stop thinking about the tattoo now. It had been in this very same part of the forrest where she had encountered the strange group that just called themselves Death....

A fair distance off there was a bit of a stir in the forest, the running of a good twenty two sets of feet, pounding the earth in a low rumble and audio dissipating quickly. Controlled breathing in rhythm and searching eyes scanned every tree, every rock and even the river. The figures ploughed through and drops and sheets of water reached heaven ward and sparkled like crystals in the blazing sun and clear skies. First was a single figure, then the other twenty one followed in a splashing roar. They were clad in hoods and cloaks black and brown as mud and soot. Their target grossly out numbered already dealt with quite a number of them as it was, while they were in small groups, but they rallied to create what they hoped would be the inevitable.

***

Honour was leaning against the base of the tree and to the right side of Ember, who sat above him. "I wonder if he makes it." He said flatly, while his head was tilted slightly down. "I guess he will." He mentioned as he stepped forward and lifted his head. "Not much to do but wait and see."

Honour, a male figure in a white suit, white shirt and grey tie. Black shoes and socks, black medium length hair kept tidy. He likes intentions that have a purpose of benefit or that of which do not inflict upon others unless in like is initiated first. His dominant temperament is kind, but strong and cold as the best when needed.

The stir in the forrest snapped Ember out of her thoughts. Frowning slightly, the red head listened to the strange sounds coming from far of in the forrest. With a sigh, Ember gracefully leapt from her perch in the tree. As she dusted herself off, the elemental muttered quietly. "I guess even when I try I can't get any time alone. If it isn't one thing, it's another. But I guess we can't let strangers, or strange things rather, wander around in the forest."

It was at this point that Ember turned and saw the man in the white suit. Startled, and a bit upset that she didn't notice him before, Ember took a step back. Then she bowed sheepishly to him. "Hello. I'm sorry I didn't notice you before...Sr. May I ask what brings you to the forest?" As she spoke, Ember quietly studied the man. Something about him seemed familiar, but she couldn't quite figure out what it was.

The chase was still on and blades glinted in the light and shimmered in the swinging of the arms in pace. The target strafed and changed direction behind a large rock and started on an incline with all the power he could muster all the while, the leader of the followers took a momentary stance bracing himself steady upon a flat rock as he drew a Five-Seven with his left hand and tracked his stretched out arm to the target. The pulling of the trigger and twice sounded a high pitched crack, searing muzzle, speeding bullets, impacted upon a trunk at close range to the intending target one of which striking the dead branch of a tree further behind and broke its support - crashing to the ground. The twenty with him running past as he picks up his pace again and his second in charge draws a six-shooter. Hammer back, waiting for the time.

The target following what seemed almost a path was coming to a thick brush and heavy rock laden area, with several bottle neck paths that threatened to be overrun by the foliage. His torn clothing at the left arm and also the thigh stained edges with blood. His sword sheathed and clanged heavy with his pounding paces and his standard chained at his waist and hung over his right thigh danced in the air flow.

Meanwhile, the man in white gave a slight bow, "The guardian death of Honour - at your service." and just afterwards he raised his hand and gave a slight pointing motion at the tattoo upon her wrist. "That is I guess my home for the time being." he informed, "And your name, miss, is?" He inquired, getting to know his punishment.

Ember blinked once in surprise as she heard the man's name, and he called the tattoo his home. Then her manners took over. Bowing slightly in return, she smiled a bit at the man. "Nice to meet you. I'm Ember." Tilting her head slightly in order to study the man a bit more, Ember moved to lean back against the tree she had been sitting on. The red head was still being polite, but the curiosity was obvious in her voice. "So, the tattoo is your home? That must mean that you are part of that 'death' group that I met a while ago. hmm... Sr. Honor, do you know why you were put in the tattoo? Or why you were sent to me? Or-" With a laugh, Ember stopped herself and shook her head a little. "Forgive me. It's just that this whole thing has greatly confused me. How about I start with a more simple question. What are you, exactly?"

As she question the man, Ember listened for the sound that had roused her before. Something was going on deeper in the woods, and she wanted to find out what it was. However, the elemental was not about to loose her chance at learning something about the mysterious new tattoo on her right arm. The last time one of the 'deaths' showed up, she had merle disappeared before Ember could question the little girl further. Making a mental compromise, Ember sent a quiet tendril of thought Raich where he slept in the fireplace. Letting the salamander in to her mind with quick familiarity, Ember let him see what had been happening and let him know to be ready at a moments notice. With that, Ember left the salamander in charge of keeping a mental watch over the disturbance in the forest and turned her attention fully on Honor.

"And thus, from that very beginning, Sir Edward Norton saught the cold that had so long been calling-No- demanding his presence."
Bleh....this book isn't any good either

Sitting back and rubbing his eyes, Alto, who was sitting comfortably on the balcony, closed the book and set it down on the small iron table to his right. He lay still and listened to the wind pass by him, never tiring of solitude when it was available to him.
It was then that he heard the loud crack and bang of gunfire echo to the castle.
Immediately the reploid opened his eyes and sat up, staring in the direction from which he heard it. A quick gust of wind picked up, opening the book and flipping it's pages fervently.
Alto stood up and walked to the thick stone railing, placing his hands on top, his ears listening intently.
hm..

He chuckled at the 'twenty' questions and took a few thoughtful steps. His hands tucked away in his trouser pockets causing the white blazer to fold over the cuffs and crease. He gazed at the surroundings as he responded eventually turning to Ember and looking her in the eye, a single step forward and then got comfortable standing there several feet respectively from Ember. "You might say that the whole deaths thing, well it was Sadistic's idea, no one can really figure him out all the time." He stated then, "Forgive me, Sadistic is another one of us, troublesome if you ask me."

"Aww, he just wants some fun." Said Seduction as she came out of her place and showed her face a few feet behind Honour. A finger poised and a wink showing jest. Honour turned abruptly and retorted "That's no excuse." She chuckled and hugged her black leather out fit, a womanly figure of average young age, somewhere around the twenty fives would be a good guess - or so they say. "Hard as rock as always, Honour." She muttered and he frowned, "Not so... just right."

Turning back to Ember with a twitching brow, "In any case, the deaths thing was just a peek of what we face." he paused for bit remembering the questions and sorting the answers, while Seduction interrupted. "Our fault too and so we must pay... pay dearly trapped and bound until we learn." She almost sang theatrically and Honour gave a comical flat stare over his shoulder before he conceded. "That's basically it, and we are just more or less helpers in ones final moments, more of coming to terms with the release that's all. You know a whole life time in a body and then not, a tough one really."

Meanwhile...
***

The constant endurance, taking a toll as his breathing heaved and laboured. He came to a dirty sliding halt and stone debris flung out and knocked against nearby small rocks. His head darted about and his arms out balancing his pose ready to leap at a moment. Searching eyes over the pathways, he chose the one leading to the rocky ledges, plans going in his mind. Taking off again he left the chasing voices behind and thundering feet. The group of bandits hot on the trail arrived at the vary spot and waited for their leader' orders, blades drawn and fanned out keeping each others flank covered. The leader and his second in command stood in to the centre of the group behind the line, each their weapon ready and watching their sides. With an out stretched arm pointing to the furthest pathway four of the bandits dispatched and scouted the area. No sounds, so both the second in command and the leader stretched their arms once more and the remaining two paths were searched. Another four bandits each and the remaining waited to converge.

The second path resulted in nothing and the first group was already returning. The leader sighed too himself, 'what will the damage be today.' He waited and watched them come down the path, trying to control his breathing, his left hand on the hilt of his sword that is strapped to his back and his right hand ready for balance. They came to the right point and he acted, leaping out from a higher advantage, his sword sounded as it scraped free and a cry of agony - an arm missing. A bandit ran about panicked in pain and clutching the stubble left gushing blood. The other three immediately began to attack him and he blocked and held two of their swords high as he on one knee, pulled out his silenced handgun with his free right hand pulling the trigger back and crossing his body. A simply squeeze and the third of the three fell to his knees clutching his leg with one hand. Then a cry of pain as a compressed hiss sounded marking the wound that caused him to drop his weapon. Leaning forwards pushing them back, began the flurry of three swords, seconds seeming minutes. Eventually piercing their arms, victorious he fled another wound added to his own right thigh. He began the climb with the sword once again sheathed.

Rock by rock he scrambled up and the group of bandits converged,
"Up there!" One shouted and the two leaders opened fire immediately. His pupil went small with pain as a bullet punched through his left arm, followed by the crack of the five-seven and he gripped the rock as he slid from view. "Take him!" the second yelled and all the remaining bandits followed with renewed anger. He reached a small creek and crossed it occasionally hitting a tree and kept on until he needed to rest. Slumping down he drew his gun with his right hand and pressed his left arm against the tree. 'Not this day.' He thought as he waited, the bandits rose into view almost like one and he took aim right for the leader in a red trimmed cloak. The leader did the same pointing his weapon, but then everyone stopped moving and stared at the place. He was closer to Ember now, not that any of them knew, they only knew what happened and the blade carrying bandits turned and started walking back to help their wounded comrades. They, he and the leader exchanged glances a bit longer before the leader lowered his weapon and hesitantly turned walking away.

It was only then he dared to glance at the predator bodies all around him, in strange numbers. 'What drove this madness?' he dared not try and think of the answer. Getting up he frowned, 'If they'd back off and leave me to die, then something worse is a foot.' limping and holding what wounds he could he continued on in Ember's general direction.

Alto slowly skimmed the trees, his eyes squinted. He was about to turn away and go back to reading when he heard the barbaric cry. The reploid looked directly in the direction from which the cry came from. not too far away from the first shouts.
Definitely organics...
Taking three steps backwards, Alto got into a firm stance and pushed himself forward. He jumped over the balcony railing with a simple sumersault, and landed quietly in the blades of tall grass. quietly still, he rushed forward into the woods, his energy kept low.

BANG!

With a yelp and a snarl a silver haired girl literally fell out of a tree at the edge of the woods. Wincing and rubbing at her ears, she let out a slow growl out of instinct and stayed low to the ground. Even though she appeared human, her actions certainly seemed more canine than normal.
But there was nothing.
Slowly she stood, eyes widened in confusion as she turned and tried to recall the direction of the shot.
Perhaps ... the boys where practicing?
It was a sorry excuse, but the half demon was tired as she leaned up against the tree and closed her eyes, only to jump back up due to the scream in the distance.
Fur standing on end she growled low, hesitated for a moment and then transformed into a fox darting towards the noise.

Ember listened intently to Honor, frowning slightly as he spoke. As seduction appeared, the red head jumped a little but otherwise did nothing. As the two deaths stopped speaking, Ember tilted her arms to look at her larger tattoo. "So...this is your punishment? For something you all did, but... Sadistic started?" Shaking her head a little, Ember stopped staring at the tattoo and put her hand on her head. "hmm.." After a moment, she chuckled quietly and smiled a bit in the death's direction. "Well, at least I get what you guys are." Then Ember frowned once more. "But....Why me? Who decided that I would be your jailer so to speak? Or is this a punishment for me too?"

Before Ember could get out any more questions, or Honor could answer her, the sounds of gun shots and screaming reached the elementals ears. Glaring, she spun towards the direction of the sounds, and Raichi appeared next to her in a burst of flame. Looking over her shoulder at two of death's incarnations, Ember laughed a bit self mockingly. "Well, no matter why you ended up with me, I can tell you that you will never be bored. I guess we will have to cut our conversation short for the moment though." As Raichi quickly grew to his dog size next to Ember, the elemental summoned a fireball to her hand and set another smaller salamander spinning around her wrist. Walking forward a few steps, the elemental and her familiar both strained there senses to find whoever was coming towards them. Quickly loosing interest in waiting, Ember decided to just call out to whoever it was and go from there. Standing almost defiantly in the middle of a clearing, she called loudly. "Hello? Who is out there?"

Alto quietly treaded within the forest. He froze certain foliage so as to not rustle any leaves. He peered all around him, and kept his hands at the ready. The reploid was about to call out when Ember beat him to it. He froze, his mouth open, then quickly collected himself, heading in her direction.

The deaths gave a slight sigh as they dissolved transparent and resided within the tattoo. This was a bit of a new experience for them as well, normally only the dead or dying could ever see them. In any case the questions would indeed have to wait as other matters had made themself clear and Ember had set herself on her way. Soon another would join her and together they would meet an 'old' friend, okay so twenty one isn't old, then again if you were ever in his shoes you'd feel rather 'out of date'.

After a while he slumped tired against a nearby tree, the sheath of his sword clanged and clinked as it nocked against the trunk and the ground that fast approached him. So tired, so very tired but this can't be t can it, no he must press on - don't give in, this isn't it. His breathing laboured a while as he worked to catch his breath; he was hunch over slightly looking to is wounded leg. The fabric torn and tattered, a gash in the thigh and searing pain from the open wound left him looking a total wreak. He cut and tore off his pant leg and using the combat knife he fashioned a make shift bandage to hold it together. His hands became stained with his own blood and he began to feel a little bit weak, but he had to deny himself the dreaded sensation. Using the trunk for support he got to his feet and pulled his sword with its sheath from its belt to begin using it in like a walking stick. Relying on his new support he pressed on, blood seeped from the wound and cuts to his arm as he contemplated never going for a walk without armour again and then laughed to himself at the absurdity of the thought despite his situation.

'I must be near the castle.' he thought to himself with hope as he plodded on, yet still a fair way into the forest and continuing towards Ember his journey continued. He looked pale beneath the short soft fur of his face and his hearing began to go fuzzy as an echoing call reached him. It sounded strangely and surrealistically distant for something so close. From Ember's perspective he was close and his movements clearly audible, particularly the sword as it was being used as a support - impacting on the ground. From behind a tree he began to come in view the silhouette seemed but a mere shadow of the former strength of a know friend with its limping movements.

He glanced up and tried to focus, 'Is that... is that, Ember?' RunningWolf thought as he stumbled to his knees and dropped the sword, breathing hard he clutched at the wounds on his arm and grimaced as he stumbled and knee crawled to the sword again attempting to pick it up. His black uniform was tattered and bloody from an unexpected battle and its consequence.

Azuria, who had been racing through the underbrush stopped suddenly, ears taunt with tension as they swiveled in each direction, but it was her noise that had stopped her.
Blood.
The half demon recognized the scent well and her heart began to race as she turned towards the smell, but what disturbed her more was she recognized the scent, and yet couldn't put a name on it.
Sith? No ... Ember. No.
Azuria took another deep breath, causing her fox eyes to widen as she finally put a face to it all. Moments later she was running in the direction of the smell.

Alto continued his confident stride, keeping his eyes and ears very acute as he did so. He measured all temperature changes around him, seeking out anything out of the ordinary. The reploid heard some noises and quickly ducked down, the plants defrosting with similar speed. He squinted and peered over brush, seeing a figure far into the distance hobbling pathetically forward. Alto could feel a strong warmth not too far away from him, wondering if it were Ember.
No matter
He thought,
This stranger certainly doesn't look like a problem...but then again it could just be a guise..
He peered closer,
Hmm....he certainly does look determined...I wonder if he's trying to reach the castle..
He crept forward ever so slightly, just enough to keep him in view. Alto unfortunately had never had the chance to meet Wolf, whether it be the second or thrid plot to destroy Azuria and the castle, in which Alto was ....detained... or away at the time. In anycase, his main priority was to keep tabs on him and any others. He had the upper hand in surprise, and wanted very much to keep it.
