umm im not sure if im allowed to post this here but i was wondering how much pressure a regular piece for pvc pipe can take without bursting or cracking

im making a water cannon and that would be extreamly useful to know!

also people that are wondering how much pressure certain things can take this is a good place to post it

this looks like a good place to post to me.

but how much pressure can your materials put into the cannon? and what is your design, just curious? cause i don't think any domestic grade water pump can burst a pvc pipe. but truly it depends on your pipe's thickness. it should say on the pipe how much it will hold, but also take into accont your ends and how well you seal the pipe.

it shouldn't be too difficult.

What is the width of the pipe wall?
What is the pipe radius?
I assume you're talking preassure from inside pushing out?

One im pumping water into the cannon and i can put 250 psi in with my handheld that i got from my gramps work
yes im talking from the inside out
and i cant post my design sicne i dont have a scanner

little more powerful than i thought. well you will need a thicker PVC pipe but still the pipes tell you how much pressure one can handle. just make sure you use a good water sealing agent and the pipe is not damaged in any way. but i would consider lo it might be lighte. usually a PVC pipe doesn't go over 150psi put i'm sure some do and you might be able to find some that are upwards to 250 or 300psi but they will be more expensive. but i would consider metal as an optional pipe. but go to your hard ware store and look at some pipes and see how much they can handle and do get some that can handle a lot more pressure than you will place on them that will make sure they are safe reliable and will last many shootings.

thank you i got some pvc that can take 280 (wow...didnt even think i would find some) cost alot but between the sealer and the pipe i thought it would be more...

it works wonderfully btw constructed and all it looks like (and is) a big cube made out of piping with a pipe leading off in the front about 4 ft by 5ft and about 4 feet tall (without the front pipe) and fires off a tripod the most i fire usually is a good 220 psi (im afraid to fire off anymore)

I'd reccomend buying a piece of PVC pipe and seeing how it respond to pressure. I'm sure that would answer your question. Just attach some weights to the tube and increase the ammount after every recording.
