On a similar topic to the last one I made about Polgara, I'd like to ask what you people think about the significance of the amulets the characters wear. At first it seems that the amulets are only for the disciples of Aldur, but then... Ce Nedra has one as well. And Garion's not really a disciple, he's just another sorcerer... and, incidentally, the godslayer. Thoughts?

Aren't they just for that particular family. If you think about it none of the other disciples, ie. Beldin or the twins have the amulets so that would suggest that it isn't the disciples. It's only Belgarath and his family that has them. Belgarath has one, Polgara has one, Beldaran had one, Garion has one and Ce'Nedra has Beldaran's amulet.

I think they're something that binds the family together, a symbol perhaps.

Yeah, but Durnik gets one when he becomes a disciple, not before... And do we know that Beldin and the twins don't have amulets?

well we don't know that the twins and beldin don't have amulets, we're presuming because belgarath made all of the amulets and he doesn't make any mention of making any for the twins or beldin. no-one mentions them making their own either

Did/does Poledra have one? And what is each amulet again? I know Ce'nedra's is the tree, and I believe Polgara's is a bird (owl?), but I can't recall the rest. sad

I believe it is for the family member who have gifts. Normally this would exclude Cenedra and Beldaran, but i remember something about how Beldaran was slightly gifted but not the way that the others are.

I would tend to side with those who think that the amulets are just for those in that family. But I would go a little farther and say that they are for those who are directly related to the Godslayer. Thought that raises the question about Durnik at what point he did recieve his. In addition what about Poledra?

I'm pretty sure there were just a family thing. Belgarath's is a wolf, Polgara's is an owl, Belderans/Ce'Nedra's is a tree, Durnik's is a hammer, I don't recall it ever being mentioned what was on Garion's amulet. I don't belive Poledra has one.
