Unmake the Orb?! Why the heck did Ctuchik try to do THAT?! It's much more powerful than he is, and unmaking in of itself is lethal!
...Madman.

to be fair no matter how powerful the orb was, Ctuchik still wouldn't have been able to unmake it

WTF Queen of Words He was desperate. Desperate people do stupid, desperate things. Very true, at least he had time to realize his mistake, I almost almost felt sorry for him.

Yeah, I thought that part was so cheesy. I mean, he even chose the words, "BE NOT!" Come on! No one's that stupid.

What's stupid? When Garion almost causes an ice age when trying to quell war in Arendia. AND...
Why didn't Belgarath and Beldin go through ALL THAT TROUBLE to correct the weather when all they had to do was "ask" the ORB to correct the weather? Mightily stupid!!
Question of pride it seems, though

Question of pride it seems, though rofl First, it wasn't stupid, it was ignorant. Petty quibbling, but important. The Orb has strange ways of doing things. It might not have done it the right way, or the way they would prefer. Also remember that they went a long time without it, and going along as they would have anyways is likely force of habit. They might not have had time to go to Riva and ask Garian to go along with them to hold the orb and help. And he wouldn't have had the time anyways.

He said it without thinking, or rather all he could think about was his fear. Although I do agree that "Be Not" was pretty cheesy. He could have said "stop" or anything. All that mattered was his intent. He could have said anything.

He was so afraid of what might happen if Garion were to touch the orb that he no longer wanted to be around to face that possibility. I think that he just did a Belsambar but in a much grander way since he knew Belgarath could anhilate him anyway and he wanted to end it on his own terms.

Good point on the choosing "Be Not" for Ctuchik unmaking the orb. And it took longer than I thought for him to obliterate, I thought it would have been instantanious (sp?).
