Rasurnu finally exited the annoyingly lengthy forest, as he saw the base of the massive mountain. As he climbed, there were three tasks, and he had read about all of them. It was part of the legendary dragoon ascension, as none of his race had done in centuries. He had a reason for climbing the peak though, which was seeing an old childhood friend if only once more. To get back into the kingdom, he had to have honor, and many people would have to know about his amazing feats. The only way to do that was ascension, an ascension to see the Queen, and speak with her once more.

He saw the staircase, the granite steps aligned perfectly, one by one. There were cracks in the old stones, as there should be, and he looked up. Rasurnu had a long way to go, and he began walking up the mountain to the first temple. In it, there would be a question. He would answer it correctly, no matter what it was. His mission was not going to be failed.

It took about a half of an hour, but he reached the first temple. Vines covered the top of it, as pillars held it up. He entered, looking at his surroundings, as he would have to pass the temple to go higher up the mountain, which had a barrier outside preventing any other way for a dragoon to reach the peak. He moved into a large hallway, of granite, and saw a statue.

"You have a long-time friend, my child. She no longer knows who you are, but nor would she care. Are you going to do something rash, my child?" A voice echoed, seeming to come from the statue.

"You mean like kill someone, don't you?" Rasurnu asked, skeptically.

"Well, you've got a choice. You can kill her, or someone else will. Which one will you choose?" The statue asked.

Rasurnu stood, and thought for a moment. He knew what he was going to say, and he would put it into effect in only a moment.

"Well, what is thy decision?" The statue questioned, its dragoon wings behind its armor. There was a spear in its hand, which had a small engraving, purity of mind.

Rasurnu smiled, "Neither. I refuse to kill someone I have known for my entire life. That's why I'm here. To protect those I care about. It's a fact of life, protect those who you care for. I'm not going to let someone kill her, either, so that's out of the question. I would die for those I care about."

"Good, my child..." The voice spoke, as the back of the temple opened, to more steps, "...You may pass. The other trials are up ahead. You are pure of mind..."

Rasurnu walked out, and the steps were limestone, all the way up to the second task. He could see the green temple, with a cherry blossom tree next to it. The tree shouldn't be growing there, unless a magical or otherwise powerful force kept it alive. There was snow, but it wasn't snowing at the point. The only thing he could do was continue walking, upward, toward his goal.

As he reached the interior of the temple that was identical other than the statue's inscription on the spear, and the color, he heard a soft voice.

"Your next task is here, are you ready to face what may happen?" The voice asked.

"Of course I am! I wouldn't be here otherwise!!" Rasurnu exclaimed, ready for any task.

"There is a boy being attacked by a man, what does your heart tell you?" The voice faded, as a boy and a man appeared, the boy cowering under the man's large knife.

Rasurnu quickly positioned himself in front of the boy, and began to reach for his blade. He then looked at the man's face, and didn't see evil. He only saw anger, aggravation over a recent event. Below that, there was peace, and caring. Rasurnu released his hand, and let the knife smash into his armor.

As the boy and man dissipated, the statue spoke once more, "Good, my child. Clarity of heart, you have."

"No one must die, unless they are of true evil. Sadness causes problems, but they can be resolved without fighting." Rasurnu spoke, as that was the task he had read about. He had finished with two, and once again walked out. This time, the steps were marble that glowed gold as he stepped on them, one by one.

The last temple was in his reach, only steps away. At the height, it was snowing, almost as if a blizzard was coming, but one wasn't. He saw a golden tree in front of the last temple, and under it, a stone that read, Clarity of Spirit.

Rasurnu walked in, to face the last of his tasks. An aura of peace, yet impending danger surrounded him upon entry, as the last voice asked, "Are you ready to see the end of your ever-intense journey?"

Rasurnu responded, "What is my task, I will do what I must."

"You may either fight a large golem, or bring a powerful person back from the grave. Which do you choose?" The voice asked.

Rasurnu contemplated the words, "I don't have to fight the person that is resurrected, and if I must, I'll do as I have to. I choose to resurrect."

"Very well..." The voice faded out as a fine mist enveloped the entire room. Footsteps slowly moved toward Rasurnu, and then the mist cleared. It was a shirtless man, who had glowing markings all over his body. There was a large glowing circle with three small lines extending from the top, the two sides crossed opposite shoulders and ended on his back. On his hands, there were similar circles, but the lines were going in each of three directions, at third marks, that formed into inward arrows. Around the hand circles were glowing triangles, and an aura was emitted from the powerful man.

The man was Experiment, who had been brought back from the dead. His body was no longer in the Lobby, and he chose to use his powers in case something were to happen where he ended up. It could possibly be someone who wanted to fight him, until he saw Rasurnu. The dragoon had his wings spread, and his blade drawn, but his face showed no hostility. Experiment closed his head and smiled to the man. There would be no fighting, as there had been too much just before he died.

"How'd I end up here?" Experiment asked, "Might I also ask who you are?"

"Resurrection," Rasurnu responded, "Rasurnu Hyala, that's my name. Who are you, and must I fight you to ascend so I may once more see an old friend?"

Experiment smiled, "Name's Experiment, and no, fighting won't be necessary here. Go on up ahead, I've got to go apologize to a friend in Central for dying earlier today. One last thing - Drop by Sang-Froid, it's a Tavern in Central, you might like to meet some of us that live there. Yeah, I'm 31 years old as well, so don't be expecting someone that exceeds too many years old, further than I can count in an hour, or rather, further than I would like to count. I died in the riot today to save a friend, but in doing so, she saved me. I lost my mind, and now I'm once again how I used to be. My last breath before I died earlier, it reverted me."

Rasurnu stood agape, the man was just letting him past, "Thank you, sire. I will stop by the tavern later on, and, just wondering, why don't you fight?"

"Because..." Experiment began, grinning, "...You could never take me."

With the simple words, Experiment walked out of the temple, and into the snow. He spread his wings, both sets, which glowed slight hues of different colors. There were blues on his black wings, and light reds on his white wings. He took flight, the mountain's spell not pertaining to his race, and headed for Central.

Rasurnu rushed through the door that had just opened, and sprinted to the icy summit. On it, he saw the headpiece. The emerald seven-eye headpiece, for the most divine of dragoons, which heightened senses, and amplified magical abilities. It also allowed further sight, and it slid right onto Rasurnu's face. He smiled, as the piece was a snug fit, and it looked good on him. The piece itself had seven emeralds on the outside, and was made of a gray material, that was soft to the wearer, but hard outside. It covered one eye, leaving the other eye open to see immediate surroundings, and he stood on the summit. The piece had been taken from an altar, which then glowed gold. Rasurnu only stood on top of the peak. He had made it.

After his victory celebration, Rasurnu began down the mountain, as it was beginning to get cold on the peak. The steps seemed to move more quickly, going downward, and the statues only had an aura of peace around them. He was going to get past easily, as the tasks were over.

Experiment walked to where he could see the mountain's base, amidst the trees. The trees ended at a small clearing which allowed the mountain to rise, and he saw something out of the ordinary. A tent had been set up, and there was a fire. Beside the fire was the man who had resurrected him, Rasurnu the dragoon.

"Hey there, how are you?" Experiment smiled to the dragoon.

"I'm actually headed out soon..." The dragoon began, smiling, "...To get back to where I belong, in a kingdom. Are you two hungry? I've got fish cooking right now over this fire, if you would like some."

Naelya poked her head out from behind Experiment who she had stayed within a foot of. So close that her wings had appeared to be his own. She looked at the dragoon with a smile and shook her head.

"I'm afraid I can't eat anything at the moment. Butterflies already occupying my stomach."

The dragoon looked at them, "Suit yourselves, the fish smells good. Also, I believe I saw something weird, like a light, coming from the top of the mountain last night, that might be why you're here. I'm not even going to ask, but good luck with whatever you're up to, Experiment."

Experiment nodded to Naelya, and then looked to Rasurnu, "Same to you, Rasurnu the ascended dragoon."

Naelya's brows raised at what Rasurnu said. "Light," she repeated. "Thank you so much Rasurnu, for everything." Looking at Experiment she said, "Let's go."

Naelya looked up the mountain with a huge sigh. She could only guess what awaited her there. Was someone really up there? And could it really be her father? Her limbs and movements were tense from the anxiety. Her jaw remained clenched as she moved, a slight 'tick' at her temple which was in time with her heartbeat.
