Yea, try looking at pawn shops, garage sales, wal mart, target and sometimes best buy. At pawn shops they'll probably be in the hundreds but than again you get a name brand most of the time just look closely and make sure you don't get a damaged one. Basses are fun to play just check out the fourm in here on advice on playing it should be pretty useful to you if anything just pm i'll give you some information i've been playing bass on and off lately i'm not that good yet but i have a cheap bass i got from wal mart for a graduation gift. When I get back from basic training i plan on buying an ibanez bass.
dude no offence, but anything from walmart or target or whatever is a total ripoff, yamaha sucks a** and first act is even worse, if u want something that'll die before your hamster does, get something like that, otherwise, for christ sake, get an ibanez or at least a squire p-bass.
i've been playing for about 5 yrs and the whole time i've played the same guitar, an ibanez sound gear 4-string bass and i have to say it was worth every penny of the $250 or so that i paid for it.
also, if u get elixir strings on ur bass it may be more expensive, but it will save ur fingers from a lot of pain.
