whats the point with the extra string on a five string bass? I dont usually see to many bass tabs with the use of the fith string.

Yeah, I know, but usually people tabbing songs might only have a 4-string and I think the 5th string is tuned an octave lower than the E string. or it's just a B. It's used mainly for metal songs I think.

The 5th string is a B, and usually used for NuMetal (whatever the hell that means) and stuff like Funk and Motown. Also, The Flea used one in Blood Sugar Sex Majik, and I use one when writing original stuff.

I've been looking at the Ibanez sr305dx.

Pretty nice five string, I've played the four string version and it's a dream compared to my no-name. I was quite happily slapping away in the shop.

The fifth string is great for a lot of things..

Slapping on it is lots of fun. It eliminates the problem of detuning and is fun for funk down low.

Nu-Metal is metal that has heavy repetition on the guitars, turntables and/or samples, and at times, rap-like vocals. For some Nu-Metal artists, look at Slipknot, old Linkin Park, and Limp Bizkit.

You just described Rapcore/Rap Rock. Nu Metal is an evolution of grunge and Thrash but tends to lean more to the grunge side so it is a rock genre.

Jazz player use the 5th string to extend range for runs. Their are 11 string bass players that prety much have an unlimited amount of breathing room.
