While out wandering around the campus, Eiri came upon an old, decrepit looking building. According to the worm-eaten sign, this was the old gym that had been abandoned after the construction of a newer one. For obvious reasons, she thought, looking over the small, pathetic building. Suddenly, a genius idea slipped over her and she made her way inside. The windows were caked with dirt, blocking all signs of the outside world. The ceiling was high and its vents still seemed to be intact. Perfect. Grinning, she took her pack of cigarettes from her bag and lit one, balancing it on her teeth as she had learned to do with practice. She'd been looking for a place where she could smoke or drink or just beat on brick walls until her knuckles broke, without having to worry about being kicked out of yet another school. Maybe she would share this place with her roommate, who she oddly enough hadn't hated right off. Then again, she was sure she wasn't the only one that would make a haven out of this condemned hideaway.

Vade found himself standing in the "old gym" as Eiri ahd put it. It had been a long day and it was nice to find somewhere to wind down. He lit himself a cigarette and looked around before spotting Eiri.

"So this is old gym eh?" He asked just for something to say. Eventually he found a spot on the old creaky wood floor and pulled the bottle from his bag. He knew he'd said he was going to quit drinking, but there was no reason to let good whiskey go to waste.

Eiri blew a ring of smoke in the air, "Far as I know." Suddenly, a small fuzzy head poked out of her bag and she lifted the small puppy into her lap. She eyed the bottle in Vade's hand and gave him a knowing glance, "Enough to go around?"

"Aye," He replied simply and handed her the bottle of Jack Daniel's. He glanced at the small dog but didn't say anything about it.

Eiri took the bottle and put it to her lips, positioning her head so that it would drain into her throat and the bitter taste wouldn't burn through her tongue. Passing it back, she absently scratched her dog's ears and looked around, "The school almost got shut down because of this building, you know?" She closed her eyes and laid one hand on the floor, "The electrical wiring was bad and everytime they turned on the lights, the circuits would spark. Finally, they had to just abandon it because of the fire hazzard." She shook her head and snapped back to the present, taking another drag of her cigarette.

Vade eyed the girl as he took his own swig.

"Neat," he replied, not really knowing what else to say. If she'd just done what he thought she'd just done...well...he didn't really want to think about it. Leaning back, he rested on his elbows and looked around again.

"Yeah...neat." She put her pup on the floor and he immediately ran to the stranger, sniffing him. Eiri flicked an ash, "That's Kaen, by the by. If he starts to bother you, just shoo him off and he shoud leave you alone." She rested her head in her cigarette hand and closed her eyes, enjoying the quiet of the gym. It was nice to seperate from the constant squeals and giggles that seemed to echo through the hallways of the school.

Vade put a hand on the puppy momentarily and it took one good sniff before loping back over to its owner.

"So...ah...where are you from? You said your ma was Irish?" He asked in a subdued tone after they'd been quiet for awhile.

"Mhm," she said, patting Kaen as he came back to her. "Mother was from Whiteabbey, in County Antrim. She met Papa when she was in Tokyo for a conference. I was born and raised in a town just north of Tokyo, called Kawaguchi." She stubbed out her cigarette and lit another one, "Where are you from?"

"Tuam, Co. Galway and more recently, Hell's Kitchen, New York. Me ma was Japanese though, from Fukuoka. She was on a high school class trip when she met me da, and she never left," he said, noting to himself that her ma had been from Ulster while he hailed from the Connacht region. Two places that were worlds apart, even in as small of a country as Ireland.

Eiri was startled into laughter, which was a rare occurance indeed. It was a thick, rich laughter that completely contradicted her surly character. "So we're both halfsies, huh? The Irish-Japanese ethnicity is a very odd combination, isn't it? I was always picked on as a child for having red hair and green eyes, among other things." She smacked Kaen lightly on the nose when he tried to n** her, then went on, "So New York, hm? I've never been there. Is it as rat-infested as they say?"

Vade laughed a bit, "I was teased for being too dark skinned and haired. Seems we probably would've saved each other a lot of grief if we'd switched places eh?"

He took another swallow of the liquor.
"As for New York, it was all right. It was no Tuam though, that's for sure...to go from living on a sheep farm to the city was, well, a bit more than a shock..."

"What about Japan? I've never been there, and me ma never really talked about it much."

Eiri thought for a moment. "I love it. I have a good life in Japan, because my family is there. Plus, when the plum trees and cherry trees begin to bloom, there's nothing more inspiring to an artist." She tilted her head to the side, "Its an easy place to live, for people like me. I can get along just fine without human interaction. There's plenty of other things for me to be fascinated with, so I never lose sight of myself."

She stubbed the second cigarette out, "Your mother really never took you to her mothercountry?"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 16, 2006 12:20 pm

"No she didn't..." He trailed off and took yet another swallow, deadset on getting himself drunk now. "She used to say she'd take me there when i was older, but she died before that time came. Besides, i think she was truly in love with Eire, and content never to leave if she didn't absolutely have to."

Eiri leaned over and took the bottle from his hands, "If you go back into the dorms drunk, you'll get expelled." She took a quick swig and wiped the corner of her mouth, "Sorry about your mother, by the by. Maybe, sometimes, there are some things that are better left in the past. If you went to Japan, whose to say it wouldn't hurt you more than help you?"
