How did you guys like this book? I really enjoyed it! The use of symbolism is brilliant.

I really liked it, (I had to read it for class as well) but I wouldn't say it's my favorite classic. I liked it a lot more then Hemingway though! XD
I thought that, because the book was mostly characterization, it was an easier read and more enjoyable. George and Lennie are also the two most loveable and relatable characters ever! Everyone has a dream.

I also read it for English this summer. [ eek where does everyone live...stalkers sweatdrop ] I really don't know about it. It was one of the better books I read, but...the ending just left me kinda...bleh. It totally threw me for a spin. I'd give it 7/10

It was a pretty good book. It was ruined for me only because I had to read it in my English class last year and my class was really innoying.

It's even a classic in France, I had to read it when I was 14. smile I quite liked it, but I regret not having read it in English since then. I should really order it and be done with that someday.

wasn't a fan. I kind of really dislike John Steinbeck, his characters have a way of getting themselves shot in the face at the end. I've also read The Pearl and In Dubious Battle and both were drawn out and ended abruptly. If I had to chose between the three though, I'd say Dubious Battle. So if you like the guy, read that one. You'll probably be A LOT more entertained.
Then again I have a strong dislike for most of the classics, save the materialistic dystopian ones (i.e. Brave New World, Farenheit 451, 1984...)

Like most here I read it in English class in gr.12. It was a pretty good book, I found I actually enjoyed it more than most books I've had to read in school. Maybe that's because I just had this AWESOME English teacher who would read parts of it really well to us. She had accents and everything, man I miss her. Anyway, I thought it was a fairly good piece of literature, if not very sad in the end.

I liked the story as far as character interaction and setting were concerned but I found it to be too short a book with a sometimes too laid back writing style.

He was an awesome teacher. I was actually lucky enough to get him again this year. Now, getting back to the topic, for all the same reasons stated earlier in this thread, I really enjoyed this read. The ending was quite sad, as most of Steinbecks endings are, but it suceeds in bringing to light one of the many problems with humanity, as do all his sad endings.
