A Conversation between Andy and Rob
Breathing heavily Andy closed his eyes and rased the gun to his temple. He could hear his heart beat in his ear. “Did he really want to do this?” Andy thought, “Did he really want to kill himself?”. It was then that he decided, “yes,” he thought, “ I need to end the unbearable pain inside me. If I don’t do this I will just end up dying inside.” With that thought still in his mind Andy pulled the trigger.
When nothing happened, the first thought that crossed Andy’s mind was if there was something wrong with the gun. For some unknown reason Andy’s body seemed to weigh less, it seemed to him that he was almost weight less. He was puzzled by the strange feeling; it was almost inhuman. Tentatively he opened his eyes, the horrifying sight made him gag. There on the bed was his lifeless body, limp and bloodied. He stared at himself on the bed. “Was that really him?” he wondered, “how was this happening?”
He looked down to where his body should have been, instead of a normal body, he saw a transparent “copy” of his torso. “What is happening to me?” Andy questioned in his mind. Just then he heard the front door open downstairs.
“Andy, we’re home, some of your friends are here to give you your homework” his mother’s voice called.
“Mommy, what is that stuff on the ceiling?” that sounded like Monty’s voice.
Andy heard hurried footsteps rush up the stairs, then his mother entered the room and he saw her gasp.
“Andy........” she whispered, almost too soft for him to hear her. Just then Monty came into the room..
“Mommy?” he whimpered, his eyes widened when he saw the body laying there on the bed. His mother broke into sobs. Taking her hands from her face she comforted Monty. Surprisingly Monty didn’t cry, he just stood there, eyes wide with shock. Andy couldn’t stand to watch them anymore; he turned away only to see something that astonished him even more.
There in the middle of his room stood Rob, looking at him with a smirk.
“Hey man, remember me?” he asked.
Andy gasped., “R...Rob? Is that you?”
Rob grinned, “The one and only.” Then, his face turned grim. Looking over
Andy’s shoulder at the scene behind him he turned to Andy. “You realize what this means, don’t you?” he questioned, starring into Andy’s eyes.
“Y...yeah,” Andy gulped, still surprised at Rob’s sudden appearance.
“No, I don’t think you do,” he shook his head. “Come on, let’s go somewhere where we can talk.” With that he took Andy’s wrist.
Andy wasn’t sure what was happening to him, as soon as Rob touched his wrist the room around him grew blurry. His head started to spin and the ground disappeared from under his transparent feet. A few seconds passed as the blur continued. Before he realized it, both Rob and him were standing in a vast meadow full of tall grass that swayed in the whispering wind.
“That’s better,” Rob sighed. He walked over to a lone ancient looking oak tree. Lazily sitting down he motioned for Andy to follow. “Now, were would you like to start?” he asked staring off at the distant mountains.
“What?” Andy asked, “What do you mean “start”?”
“I mean where do you want to start talking?” he said impatiently.
“Huh?” Andy was still confused.
“Look everyone in this situation has to talk about what they were going though when It happened,” he explained. He turned toward Andy “It not only helps you get stuff off your conscience, but it helps to place you.”
“Place me....what?” Andy wondered out loud.
“Never mind that, now where do you want to start?” he said even more impatiently.
“Uh, I guess we should start at the very beginning, when the crash first happened.....”
Rob and Andy began to talk about what had happened from that night on, a few times they got off topic and started to talk about past memories they had both forgotten. Many hours later the sun had begun to set; they sat watching it in silence, and thinking about their lives and all they will miss from them.
Then Rob broke the silence, “Andy, spending time in this realm isn’t so bad. Although we will miss a lot of stuff that’s happening with our families, we still get to see them once in a while. There is one set back though, normally suicide cases don’t have the chance to see their families. There’s this law here, see, people that take their own lives are banned from walking the earth as a spirt.” Andy’s heart dropped, “There’s more stuff to it but I think your case might be different.” As he said this Andy began to see new hope. Rob continued, “Many of your friends care about you on earth, including me here. People here have heard their pleas to let you be forgiven. The counsel is discussing it now, I don’t know their verdict yet but there has been talk in your favor.” He smiled, “ I know you meant well, but you should have thought about your family and friends. Remember when I left you, how depressed you were?” He looked sympathetically at Andy.
Andy just sighed, “Yeah I should have used my head, I wasn’t thinking clearly.”
Rob smiled, “Here, I want to show you something, since this is a different realm time here goes faster then time on earth.” Rob then took Andy’s wrist and the swirling sensation took over Andy’s scenes again.
Andy found himself at a grave yard, there standing at one of the graves was Monty. A car was a short distance away, Andy recognized the person in it as his mother. Andy then realized that Monty was talking.
“I’ll never forget you Andy, “he was saying, “and remember its ok to put dragons in a jungle and tears on a tiger.” With that Monty walked toward the car were his mother was waiting.
Andy then walked over to the grave Monty had been at a moment ago, he then realized the grave stone was his own.
A small smile crept across Andy’s face. “I’ll never forget you Monty.” And with that, Andy and Rob dematerialized out of the grave yard and into a brand new adventure.
